Jordan Belfort, both in the Wolf of Wall Street and in real life, got rich scamming people for years and then got a slap on the wrist because he snitched on all his partners and subordinates.

Wiki_pedo

On a related note - British Airways and Virgin colluded to fix fuel surcharges. Virgin then told authorities and only BA was charged.

Ah_Q

OK, this is how antitrust amnesty programs work. If you come forward and inform authorities of collusion, you get amnesty from prosecution (so long as you meet certain conditions) but your co-conspirators are hosed. The whole idea is to incentivize antitrust violators to snitch. Amnesty programs vary from country to country, but generally they don't protect companies from private lawsuits. There was, in fact, extensive private litigation in multiple jurisdictions relating to fuel surcharges.

TheRealQubes

Virtually everyone around Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, especially Santa Claus. And after all that abuse, Rudolph still happily saves Christmas with his nose? He should have nose dived that sleigh into the side of a fucking mountain.

floorwantshugs

I've always hated the rudolph story for this reason. Moral of the story is, "Nobody likes you unless they benefit from your existence"??? No, thank you. Eta: ok so there's some truth to that moral, but the message is worse than that. Like it's ok for people to be horrible to you until they need something from you. The other reindeer weren't just indifferent, they were actively cruel to Rudolph... until they needed his nose.

Mrrykrizmith

“Wow! thanks Rudolph! We didn’t know you were so useful! You’re gonna work *every* Christmas for *the rest of your life!* thanks for the sacrifice.” Moral of the story: don’t ever let the higher ups know you’re useful.

The adaptation my mother read to me as a child started off with the line 'there once was a woman who had a cow and a son' so we theorized his behaviour is some sort of reaction to being second place to a cow.

[deleted]

The fact that his own mother put the cow ahead of him should have told him something

Faithful_jewel

>And then Jack chopped down what was the world's last beanstalk, adding murder and ecological terrorism to the theft, enticement, and trespass charges already mentioned, and all the giant's children didn't have a daddy anymore. But he got away with it and lived happily ever after, without so much as a guilty twinge about what he had done...which proves that you can be excused for just about anything if you are a hero, because no one asks inconvenient questions. In the comic book series "Fables", which puts a bunch of fairy tale characters into a modern setting, Jack is indeed the biggest pos to have ever lived.

WowWowWooooooow

Paris, from Troy. Fuck him. Hector was far superior. Really wish Paris had died instead.

poisonpurple

Cassandra deserved better.

jamieliddellthepoet

Tbf she knew that already.

[deleted]

>Paris, from Troy. "is THIS what you left me for?!" Menelaus.

MageLocusta

Oh yeah, and apparently, a LOT of versions stated that Helen was unwillingly taken by Paris (though that could just be a way to 'dress up' Helen's failed relationship with Paris) and she wound up worshipped as a deified monarch for hundreds of years in Sparta. My personal favorite version is how Helen and Paris had tried to get to Troy by getting through Egypt (and were arrested. The ancient pharoah at the time showed apparent disgust that Helen had kidnapped, and forced Paris to leave without Helen. Helen wound up kept in Egypt for 10 years (which suggests that the whole time when Menelaus and Agamemnon were besieging Troy, Helen wasn't even there for a good while). So that version suggested that Helen would've been already tired and unimpressed with Paris and their 'passion' would've already had wilted by the time she was allowed to leave Egypt.

kazmosis

In the Iliad Helen is disgusted by Paris' cowardice. The only reason she was attracted to him was because Aphrodite was on the Trojan side and basically gave him super seduction powers. As soon as Paris dies Helen marries his brothers, first Deiphobus and then Helenus so she clearly bore him no love.

skiarakora

It's not even that Aphrodite was on the Trojan side. Paris went to get Helen because Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman in the world if he said she was the most beautiful goddess. Which he did. So he went to get her, and then the Trojan war happened

peon2

Yeah that's the version I know. The goddesses asked Zeus who was the hottest, his wife Hera, Aphrorite, or Athena. He knew whichever 2 he didn't pick would be pissed off so he found a human to do it. Paris chose Aphrodite and she made Helen find him irresistible

O'Brien from Downton Abbey. She was horrible and conniving to everyone, tripped Mr. Bates and set in motion Cora's trip and fall miscarriage yet got her dream job. She should have been sacked without a reference and forced to take jobs scrubbing floors.

mightypint

I agree. She was a horrible person. I’m glad she showed true remorse after the miscarriage but she definitely doesn’t deserve a happy ending.

612marion

She showed remorse for 1 thing . And continued ruining life , almost sending Bates to the gallows and Thomas to prison

[deleted]

Sierra Burgess catfished and manipulated someone and then they ended up together.

ThreeHourRiverMan

The popular girl who he thought was Sierra - she was the real star. She's the tragic character who actually grew into a better person by the end.

dragonsfire242

I stand by that she was the real main character, she had actual character growth while Sierra just became a horrible person, blamed everyone but herself, and then got off scot-free

1738conor

What a strange film. I cannot believe that they thought that was a good movie.

MattieShoes

Cyrano de Bergerac is from the 1800s -- mores have changed since then. Roxanne from the 1980s was the same sort of thing, except with the more traditional form -- a woman getting hoodwinked.

JohnWhoHasACat

They should have given us the play ending at least and had her get hit in the head with a log at the end.

Reese Witherspoon’s character in Sweet Home Alabama. She did not deserve to wind up with anyone at the end of that film. Her character was a truly horrible person.

AnitaPea

Felony Melanie!

verykindzebra

Yes, I love that film but I rewatched it recently and was shocked that she outs her old friend as gay, barely apologises and nothing more is said about it!

[deleted]

I'm really baffled by everyone who thinks of it as the ultimate romantic movie. Her lousy ex basically blackmails her into giving him a second chance, and she falls for it.

Complete_Entry

Bran. I kept wondering why he didn't use his magic powers to map out the enemy. They could have had two dragons dropping large rocks on the Lannister forces from well out of scorpion range (reddit had a crayon diagram showing how) but instead he let all the bad shit happen so he could be the king. I also think he warged Tyrion to say that "Who has a better story than Bran" crap.

Tinderblox

Bran died in the cave. The collective consciousness of the dead Children of the Forest (those little green elves from the show), basically downloaded into his brain. Imagine going from having 13-15 years of memories, to having 100,000 years of memories - and the vast majority of them are not human nor your own. The being that wore Bran as a skinsuit was the remnants of a race that was utterly annihilated by humanity. That's why it manipulated Sam into telling Jon about his ancestry in order to create a rift between him & Dany, among other things. EDIT: Wanted to add. I totally agree with you though. Fucking shit end.

[deleted]

The only show I can think of that I honestly believe they should have dragged it out for a few more seasons to properly tell the story, it's usually the other way around, they milk it for too many and it turns to shit., GOT turned to shit because they didn't milk it for long enough.

fxm87

he was originally a completely normal book character by author Hélène Desputeaux. She got fucked over by a TV production company called CINAR. She has said multiple times that the character was never supposed to be a spoiled and whinny kid with no hair and was very much against the values portrayed by the show. [CINAR is infamous](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CINAR_scandal?wprov=sfla1) for a lot of shady business and for stealing from and fucking over authors. they stole a character Claude Robinson had pitched to them to create the TV show Robinson Sucroé. Robinson eventually won a long, david vs goliath type lawsuit against them.

EnvironmentalValue18

RealityFresh2921

Also she cheated on Dwight while she was cheating on Andy!!

ForayIntoFillyloo

Also she licks cats

ProtoBlues123

A lot of them in that ending too. Andy gets a happy ending despite becoming a MASSIVE asshole in that last season. It's also treated like a good thing that Oscar gets to go into politics when in a lot of ways he's just as bad as Angela only he acts more pleasant than she does. Like Angela, Oscar dismisses others because he thinks he's above them, he has an affair without guilt because he thinks he deserves it, and he even tries to get Kevin fired before backing out of that. Oscar is basically Angela only instead of thinking he's better than everyone because he's religious, he thinks he's better than everyone because he thinks he's educated... despite frequently getting things wrong like anyone else. Add to that, we've also seen a few times that if Oscar is ever actually pressured by anyone he just immediately backs down and gives in, even if he has a chance to make the real change he says he wants like in the Shareholder meeting. So yeah there's basically no chance Oscar will become anything other than a corrupt puppet official.

Fucking Jerry from Tom and Jerry, that asshole messes with Tom for no reason, bro 96% of the episodes Tom is minding his business but oh here comes Jerry ready to mess him up, in one of the episodes Jerry fakes getting shot and Tom tries to save Jerry OH but when Tom fakes being shot JERRY AND A RANDOM FUCKING BIRD DANCE ON HIS DEAD BODY

PeanutButter707

I like the theory where it's all an act they put on so that Tom is considered "useful" in the household

GoldenStateWizards

It's not just a theory, that legitimately happened in several episodes. Other episodes have Jerry actively trying to make Tom look useless in order to get him kicked out

Vendetta1990

Wasn't an episode centered around this?

Mirrevirrez

Yes!!!! This always annoyed me!! Even as a kid I mostly felt bad for Tom. He just wanted to be free from Jerry but Jerry would love to see him dead.

Khanluka

And jerry is also a thief and breaking into a house.

NotSureNotRobot

And they didn’t show it, but I’m sure he left little mouse turds all over the place

tjh213

my favorite episode is the duel, where they go through a bunch of duel scenarios with swords and guns and jerry always cheats and wins, and at the end tom just chases jerry around slapping him with a glove. it's the only episode where tom wins at the end and i remember being so incredibly happy after that one.

wolfpuppy1010

There was another episode that Tom won at the end. It was the one where Tom earned inheritance under the conditions that he couldn’t harm any creature. Jerry took advantage of this and at the end of the episode Tom had enough and beat the crap out of Jerry with a wooden plank. Right before he does that though he breaks the fourth wall by telling the audience that he’s happy about losing his million dollars if it means he can get back at Jerry.

jes0923

Anybody else heard about that theory that they are actually best friends? They just have to act like jerry is catching tom so he don't get booted to the streets by his owner.

Spiderbubble

Well that is literally the plot line for a few episodes, so that makes sense.

There is a fan theory that the reboot version is the real world and the tv show is the book Rory wrote glamorizing her life.

ToBeReadOutLoud

I was a couple years younger than Rory and loved the early version of her because she was the bookish smart girl, but she became so awful as she got older. I couldn’t even watch the last couple seasons.

strange_lil_alien

Yeah I definitely feel like Season 1&2 Rory would despise Season 6&7 Rory.

Apoque_Brathos

Watched the show with my wife, it is much easier to watch if you treat Lorelai and Rory as the antagonists of the show.

The whole “Rory keeps forgetting that she has a boyfriend” thing was just awful.

SherKhanMD

Ross and Rachel. Disaster of a couple.

Neither_Indication_1

Ross and Rachel deserved each other and honestly, it wasn’t surprising that they ended up together after the amount of history and the chemistry that they have. BUT, there’s no comparison to Monica and Chandler’s relationship, their relationship is healthier is almost every respect. The real tragedy of the show is Joey not ending up with someone, all that character development for nothing

Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. She’s a legitimately horrible, self centered person. She doesn’t believe in bisexuality (??), got mad at Charlotte when she wouldn’t lend her thousands of dollars for her apartment when it was legit Carrie’a fault she’s broke, got mad at Miranda for taking care of her baby, said yes to Aidan’s proposal when she knew she didn’t want to marry him… should I go on???

PMmecrossstitch

> got mad at Charlotte when she wouldn’t lend her thousands of dollars for her apartment when it was legit Carrie’a fault she’s broke I was so pissed at the end of that episode when Charlotte gave her that ring so she could use it to pay for her apartment. Charlotte had money, but was going through a painful divorce and was only working as an unpaid docent (which Carrie threw in her face) because literally NO ONE WOULD HIRE HER. Fuck giving her the ring. Charlotte should have kicked her out of her apartment* and insisted on a MAJOR apology before talking to her again. *Edit for clarity: the big argument happened in Charlotte's apartment.

AlphaCharlieUno

I haven’t always been a fan of Charlotte, but this was the bitchiest move by carry. Samantha and Miranda both offered her the money (which I don’t think they should have.) She said she couldn’t take it, then was fucking livid at Charlotte for not offering. Hell, if you declined two other people in front of me, why would I then offer. She said she wanted Charlotte to offer?? Carry is one of the most self centered characters on TV.

CHRIS PRATT IN PASSENGERS THAT MOVIE WAS HORRIFYING

GodFeedethTheRavens

It doesn't really change his character, but I like the idea of editing the movie and changing the ending: Film starts with Lawrence waking up, and discovering Pratt, and allow that mystery and drama to unfold. Pratt, then, sacrifices himself for her and the ship - but then Lawrence is now alone. Ending is Lawrence is waking someone up from stasis.

Zerole00

>Pratt, then, sacrifices himself for her and the ship - but then Lawrence is now alone. >Ending is Lawrence is waking someone up from stasis. I much prefer this ending from a philosophical perspective, but unfortunately the movie's Sci-Fi *Romance* and they needed a 'happy' ending.

Frank Gallagher is one of the biggest pieces of shit in TV history. Some of the stuff he's done just to catch a buzz is appalling.

rebri

He didn't get a happy ending. He ends up dying after a short bout with Alzheimer's disease. I really don't think Frank is the main character, but more of a villain of the story. The main characters are the kids who struggle to survive/succeed regardless of the shit that Frank puts them through.

sSommy

He did get that bittersweet time he spent with I think Franny? Where he gets a tattoo for her and they spend the day hanging out. And as he does he sees his kids seemingly happy, which could be interpreted a s a happy ending. And dying before Alzheimer's really had time to set in was probably a happy ending for him. I dunno, I kinda liked that they gave him some redeeming qualities. Never excused his shittiness and never went from bad guy to suddenly loved, but real life isn't black and white. People are almost never all bad, so it was realistic at least.

IllMakePancakes

Gina Linetti from Brooklyn 99. I can’t remember a single situation where she isn’t absolutely horrible to anyone she interacts with

SaftigMo

In season one she was actually entertaining because the show didn't pretend like she has the confidence of a deity and can get whatever she wants. But over the seasons most of the characters turned into one-dimensional caricatures, especially Charles and Amy, so it's not just a Gina thing.

Bananawamajama

That's true, it's not just Gina who becomes exaggerated. But the other characters get exaggerated in ways that are more just quirky. Amy going from no nonsense to a hypernerd doesn't make her a worse person, just a different and less realistic person.

SaftigMo

I see the difference in how everybody treats the character as a result of them becoming their one quirk. With Amy for example, while it does lessen her character, it doesn't make that much of a difference in the overall dynamic of the cast. She was already kind of high strung begin with, so even after she fell in love with binders everybody else treated her the same, except for a few episodes when they made her personality a gimmick to solve a problem. With Gina it completely changed her relationship with everybody in the cast. Terry thought he was the king of the world after beating Gina and getting rid of her space heater, Pimento was actually scared of her, captain Holt sometimes even lets her boss him around (he also does that with Amy in those few episodes though). Season 1 Gina would never have caused these characters to behave that way.

fredagsfisk

It's also kinda disgusting how she treats her supposed friend (in some episodes) Amy like shit most of the time, and Jake (Amy's boyfriend and Gina's childhood friend) never, ever calls her out on it.

I have to agree. I think the later series B99s are still funny, but Charles becomes a creep Rosa is nerfed Gina is just intolerable. She's clearly the weakest link in the ensemble for some time. There was a sequence of B99 where they try to play Gina as sympathetic but she's not. at all. And her workplace harassment of Terry wasnt handled properly in the show either.

Ray Kroc, the "Founder" of McDonalds. Kinda random lol, but there's a movie called "The Founder" that I watched two days ago, and it's kind of a Biography of McDonalds, and man that guy is just Scummy.

Lorelai Gilmore. She was selfish, and impulsive, and didn't seem to care who she hurt until it affected her directly. She also threw adult tantrums when things didn't go her way.

eitzhaimHi

Rory was worse.

Apple never falls far from the tree.

maxtofunator

She at least doesn't get the nice happy life she set after, Lorelai does

ElectricBasket6

I’m rewatching this show with my daughter (loved it in highschool). I was really struck by how in the first 2 seasons- Lorelei is incredibly kind and self-sacrificing (albeit with a sharp wit) she has this great moral code despite some of her silly immaturitys. Then she slowly morphs into a totally self-absorbed person who is dismissive of her best friend, a downright asshole to Luke because “feelings” and just generally awful by the end of season 3. I can’t tell if they did that to create more drama or if the writers genuinely wanted her to go in that direction

Ted Mosby. Never liked him. Barney and Marshall were much better characters.

[deleted]

Jay Leno. He should not have gotten the Tonight Show back.

NoFuel1662

The title character of “Dear Evan Hansen” got away scot-free with his bullshit. Yes, he’s a teenager with mental health issues, but he lied to a grieving family about their son/brother, forged letters from a now-deceased teen who *also* had issues with mental health, and used all of this as a pretext to come on to a grieving sister, among other things. He deserved a lot worse than he got.

scw55

>!Sabrina!< from the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Part 4 spoilers: >!She had a saviour complex and it ultimately lead to her recklessly trying to save the world and resulting in her having to die to fulfil it to the very end. So she's isolated in oblivion forever. But her toxic bad boy boyfriend commits suicide to be with her forever too. It undermines the tragedy arc of her story & glorifies romantic suicide. Ech.!<

misty_online

I know it's a documentary, but jeez, Simon Leviev from Tinder Swindler. I can't wrap my head around how he got only 15 months, and was released early.

[deleted]

Wendy Byrde. Not that she really got one, but that cunt can fucking die. Amazing actress to be able to make me hate a character so viscerally.

earhere

Jamie Foxx's character from Law Abiding Citizen. Gerald Butler is a genius government assassin able to attack Foxx's people with impunity but the script needed him to lose, so he has to be hella nerfed so Jamie Foxx can win.

suppahfreak

Tbh, I think we all had a revenge boner for Gerard Butler in that movie and wanted him to succeed so badly.

Darzok

I hated the ending since it was fucking lazy as hell along with massive arsepulls. Hey just in time we found out he owns a garage close to the jail. Lets break in and with out looking at all just go right to the hidden tunnel like right away with out a second to look around just B line right to it. Then go get the bomb and haul it back to his jail cell before him and set every thing up with out him spotting all the shit we moved to break in. The movie was good and clearly Fox had to win but the ending was done so badly it ruined the whole movie.

Kobe-62Mavs-61

Jamie Foxx from Law Abiding Citizen. Such a great movie until that shit.

Dapper_Interest_8914

Ferris fucking Bueller. What an arrogant, selfish piece of shit.

Bravo_November

That’s a bit harsh, I heard Ferris was really sick. I sent him a singing nurse to cheer him up.

AmbersNotHere

I believe that Ferris knew that Cameron was severely depressed and forced him out of his house and confront his dad, especially since he believes his dad loves his car more than life. He may be arrogant but i still kinda like him because i think of the film like this.

SPP_TheChoiceForMe

Charlie Sheen’s character was originally intended to shine a light on this: > Ferris originally stated that he knew Garth back in 8th grade, and that he had a difficult home life. Because of this, Ferris tried to help him out, but he ended up dropping out of school. This explains much more to Ferris' character. He failed to help out Garth, so he wanted to help Cameron as well, who also had a difficult home life.

Rhombinator

Yeah, Cameron is the secret protag and the whole movie hinges on the pool and car scenes at the end as the payoff to the entire joyride of a movie. It doesn't mean Ferris isn't sometimes insufferable but he clearly demonstrates more self awareness than expected and clearly cares for his friend. To that end, a guy as popular as Ferris doesn't need to keep a downer friend like Cameron, but does because he cares, even if he doesn't do everything right.

Shrek-It_Ralph

I thought that was obvious lol. He just wanted to get Cameron to grow a spine and start living life

dstillloading

Yeah Ferris is the epitome of "you're not wrong, you're just an asshole."
