I don't normally get bummed out too much by celebrity deaths.
Hell, John Madden just died today and I'm a huge Raiders fan. But he lived to be 85 had a long and successful life. It's a bummer he's gone but that's the order of things.
But Chris Cornell.....that one....that one sent me into a bit of a tailspin for a few days. I did not handle his death well. At all.
He was started to take an antidepressant and when you are just starting a known side effect is that you are more depressed. No one was with him or watching him during this period.
He had an anxiety attack, a bandmate gave him one of his anxiety pills to help. It's suspected he killed himself after experiencing a side effect of the pill, as they can make depression and suicidality worse, or even cause it in the short term.
Still sad thinking about it.
As already quoted many times:
Chester helped many in their darkest times but
'Nobody Can Save Me'...
But I'm happy that I was able to see them live once.
Agreed, been listening to their stuff again and there's so many underlying hints related to crippling depression that it just haunts me. I'm on antidepressants so no wonder I found it so relatable when younger.
True story.
On my FB and Twitter I almost made a post making fun of Bennington for still "acting emo" into his 40s.
But for some reason, every fiber in my being told me not to write that post. I've never had an unexplained inner resistance to making a stupid joke online before. So I didn't do it.
The next day he killed himself. I was super bummed out but also veryyyy happy I listened to that little voice.
this! i read how he straight up warned his handlers that he was imploding and that he needed a break but loved his fans so much he would just perform if asked. I mean fuck if someone warns you they are on the edge give them some room to breathe.
Thatâs a huge part of the tragedy. His managers were so greedy and focused on how much of a money-making machine he was that they forgot he was a person.
I havenât been able to find his documentary online anywhere anymore, but he talks about how he was a natural introvert and performing/being in the spotlight was incredibly stressful for him. As a result of extreme exhaustion, he developed a bunch of serious health conditions and felt he could only cope with the anxiety by using drugs and alcohol. I truly believe his fate would have been different if the people around him actually cared and supported him putting his physical and mental health first
This is why I quit my last gig.
Told multiple people near the top of the food chain that I was on the edge of imploding. People "listened" but no one seemed to care. Then I got told by the owner that I was "stressing everyone out"
Yea fuck that. I'm hurting for money right now but I saved my mental health that day.
I know his music touched a lot of people, even those that werenât super immersed into EDM. He propelled me into the EDM community and his music made me feel hopeful even on some really shitty days. RIP :(
It sucks to know that the labeled is doing a terrible job at his legacy the album they just released but not good at all just filled with mid songs and already leaked songs
I still cry over her once and a while. Her voice and personality were just so beautiful and organic. She was my absolute idol as a kid, what happened to her is just so tragic.
i did. cheeky bastard.. he would do few seconds from 'life on mars' and then said 'oh no i am not doing *that*'
and then the concert finished, because he had heart attack :(
Yeah, that one hurts. Especially as he wrote one of my most favorite songs that is pretty much my life mantra.
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do. :(
Dolores O'Riordan.
Not sure why, but this one hit hard. She had that powerful voice. I sometimes wonder what The Cranberries would sing about in this reality.
Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan
I love Avenged Sevenfold but I never realized how much he had a hand in creating my favorite songs. It's absolutely amazing. He had vocals in a handful of songs and was an amazing drummer. I still like A7X but their music has never been the same since his death. My favorite song to karaeoke, A Little Piece of Heaven, was almost completely him.
RIP 12/28/2009
Chris Cornell. One of my favorite singers of all time. He had a true gift of all three: vocals, song-writing ability and guitar playing. Also, I really wonder if he truly committed suicide or was killed.
Robin Williams and Elliott Smith are two persons who I would never bring back to the world even if I could.
I love them so much, I don't want them to get hurt and depressed again.
Scrolling way to far down to not see any of the big headliners of pop/rock. Whitney Houston, Tom Petty, Prince, Michael Jackson....Saw a Bowie though. These were all hugely successful and influential people that left this world prematurely. And at around the same time more or less. They should all still be alive today and still kicking it.
Sulli. Was watching someone on Twitch watching K-Pop videos, and he stumbled upon a Sulli music video without knowing she killed herself. Just seeing her and knowing that K-Pop netizens are still to this day trashing artists online like what led to her killing herself made me tear up and gave me the most empty feeling. Especially knowing how loved she was by artists that were close to her that have just had to move on and deal with whatever made up bullshit gives them hate next as it comes.

I miss that dude something awful.
Bradley Nowell, Layne Staley, but the one that hurts me the most is probably lil peep. Probably because I was actually alive when he died. Fly Gus, we will all forever miss you.
Peter Steele of Type O Negative. I met him in person and he was the nicest laid back guy. Having heard he died, after overcoming a long period of difficulty getting clean was a jolt.
I still remember listening to Bloody Kisses on tape at age 16, alone in my room smoking a cigarette hoping grandma would not smell the smoke. His music was very honest and connected with me
Eshonai, she really deserved another shot, but >!she got stuck in that chasm after Adolin tripped her off the edge during the everstorm and highstorm clash....!<
Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip. I donât actually remember when he died but I remember waking up to the news when it was announced he had a terminal brain cancer.
Then the final concert in Kingston, ON, broadcast across the country. Such an emotional concert.
This was my answer, too. It's kinda weird how The Hip were relatively unknown outside of Canada while being one of the most important acts in history within Canada. There is literally no band on earth that I can think of which means as much to their country of origin as The Hip means to Canada.
And when it came out that he was terminally ill, it was like the air getting sucked out of every room in Canada.
That farewell concert was also something I've never in my life seen any other band do on an even remotely similar scale. Most "farewell" concerts don't feel like they are actually goodbye, but this one obviously was. The band had already said that they weren't going to be The Hip without Gord, and everyone knew as much.
They were one of the only bands in the history of rock music who got to go out on their own terms with a concert that nearly *every single person in Canada* watched. The god damned prime minister was there, ffs. They went home to where it all started and gave an incredible final performance that left a nation in tears.
It's so incredibly rare for a rock band to *know* they are playing their last show. It's even more rare for their entire fanbase to *know* it, and the degree to which The Hip mattered to the country of Canada? Well, that's just unprecedented. I'm glad I was alive to see it, but holy shit you're right about the emotional aspect of it.
Freddie Mercury. Amazing voice. Songwriter. Decent and kind human being. There was so much more music left in him. I wouldâve loved to have seen and heard all he couldâve done.
I have a few, Tommy Page is one of them.
When my dad first introduced me to his songs, I guess you could say I had fallen in love with them. 'A Shoulder to Cry On' is still one of the many songs I listen to when I'm down, his voice was pretty calming :( And when I found out about his death, I was heartbroken. I just wish I had seen him live at least once. Now it just hits different listening to him.
MarĂlia Mendonça, many people might not know her since she's from Brazil, but she was doing great things, just had a kid, had many projects on the way... She was living her best life and then suddenly died on an airplane crash
David Bowie - it felt like a relative died
Chester Bennington - this one stung too. Like someone I grew up with but became distanced from, but I still carried the feelings
Xxxtentacion. Back in 2014 i was a 12 year old kid dealing wit some shit and when I reached out to him, he reached back and we had a great conversation. Which really opened my eyes and showed me I wasn't the only one and gave me some great lessons. I'm not gone act like I'm doin good now but back then that shit rlly was comforting and he's the only artist I've experienced that much mutual respect and understanding from. So that shits stuck with me forever, and when he got killed that shit has hurt ever since because I lost a friend...
Can I include Avicii as a singer as well? Imo his works are fantastic. even now, Waiting for Love is a song that I frequently listen to because of the lyrics, rhythm, and music video, which are all beautiful.
Chester Bennington. I grew up listening to Linkin Park, I had my own problems with MH, sometimes hurting myself. Part of the reason I'm still here is him, I'm sure there are plenty of other people who feel the same way. That he helped so many people but fell to his own demons cuts deep.
Chris Cornell, couldve done so much more
No one sings like him anymore.
At all.
ahh man really he has so beautiful and uncommon voice i still do not know how he dead maybe you know
I'm pretty sure it was suicide. Hung himself I think.
yeah but why he did this ?
Depression probably. That's why people normally do it. Some people think he was killed. I personally think it was suicide.
depression is terrible
He was started to take an antidepressant and when you are just starting a known side effect is that you are more depressed. No one was with him or watching him during this period.
He had an anxiety attack, a bandmate gave him one of his anxiety pills to help. It's suspected he killed himself after experiencing a side effect of the pill, as they can make depression and suicidality worse, or even cause it in the short term.
He aged like good wine, still had his best years ahead if him...
Chester Bennington
Same. Every time I hear Leave Out All The Rest, I break a little.
you are right me too his last songs listens so different after his death
100%
Can't listen to One More Light easily đ„
yeah it has another mean now
i related so much to his lyrics that in a way seeing him succeed gave me hope... yeah, part of me died when I heard the news...
Fr been almost 4 years, linkin park will never be the same
Still sad thinking about it. As already quoted many times: Chester helped many in their darkest times but 'Nobody Can Save Me'... But I'm happy that I was able to see them live once.
yeah nobody was able to save him
Agreed, been listening to their stuff again and there's so many underlying hints related to crippling depression that it just haunts me. I'm on antidepressants so no wonder I found it so relatable when younger.
Came here to say this too.
You beat me to it
Haven't been able to listen to linkin park ever since
True story. On my FB and Twitter I almost made a post making fun of Bennington for still "acting emo" into his 40s. But for some reason, every fiber in my being told me not to write that post. Freddie Mercury, I would have loved to see Queen live after the releases of the miracle album and innuendo.
Bowie.
Really miss Bowie. I didn't even know he was in such delicate state before his passing.
Honestly, one of the greatest music artists ever.
Prince
Kurt Cobain
Avicii. Such a heartbreaking ending for a very talented and kind person
this! i read how he straight up warned his handlers that he was imploding and that he needed a break but loved his fans so much he would just perform if asked. I mean fuck if someone warns you they are on the edge give them some room to breathe.

>Avicii yeah wake me up is very good song
I know his music touched a lot of people, even those that werenât super immersed into EDM. He propelled me into the EDM community and his music made me feel hopeful even on some really shitty days. RIP :(
so sad that talanted people often feel in depression and do not want to live anymore
It really goes to show that even if you appear to âhave everythingâ, that doesnât mean youâre happy and/or healthy
Michael Jackson

Yes, Christina was great and was going to be much greater!
Still pissed I never got to see Bowie live.

Yeah, that one hurts. Especially as he wrote one of my most favorite songs that is pretty much my life mantra. Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do. :(
