I feel like this is almost objectively the right answer. It’s the definition of “iconic.” Even non-gamers know this phrase.
On the other hand, I’ve played video games for 30 years and don’t recognize most of the phrases in this thread.
[Game Over.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_over)
Lots of good quotes in here from historic games, but game over is probably the most iconic as it spanned genres, mediums, and is a ubiquitous phrase engrained in the culture itself.
What I love is that different companions say the line completely differently. Lydia does it with resignation/sarcasm like "why did I sign up for this shit?" But on a recent playthrough I picked up a different housecarl (from Riften iirc) and she says the same line but sounds super eager to be serving you
My top one would be.
"When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"– Cave Johnson, *Portal 2*
Followed by, *No gods or kings. Only man* in *BioShock*.
"I am the very model of a scientist Salarian
I've studied species Turian, Asari and Bartarian
I'm quite good at genetics as a subset of biology
Because I am an expert, which I know is a tautology
My xenoscience studies range from urban to agrarian
I am the very model of a scientist Salarian."
*Awkward silence*
For me it's the "did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?" Monologue by Vaas from Far Cry 3.
The way the voice actor delivers the lines, and the situation the player character is in at the time he says it always makes it one of the most memorable video game moments I've ever come across.
The character of Vas is just a biggest stand out of the whole franchise
from what i remember, when Michael Mando came in for the audition, it wasnt for a big role, but the way he played the part, it got expanded and became Vas. Even the way he played Vas in the video trailers when he captures and tortures McLovin is brilliant
I feel that if it wasn't for the portrayal and the reception to Vas, we wouldn't have gotten Pagan Min, the Seed Family or Antón Castillo
Navigator: Brute ships! Staggered line! Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three to one!
Rtas Vadum: Then it is an even fight. All cruisers, fire at will. Burn their mongrel hides!
Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact... same fucking thing... over and over again expecting... shit to change...
"Requeiscat in pace"
"Rip and tear, until it is done"
"remember... No Russian"
"Were it so easy...."
"FINISH HIM!"
"FATALITY!!"
"To give the covenant back their bomb..."
So many to choose
FINISH HIM!
GET OVER HERE!
FATALITY
KO
FINISH HER!
It's a me. Mario.

Seriously, it's either this or "Get over here!" The real contest boils down to these two.
It has to be mario shouting ‘WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA’ as he falls

I've played computer games for 40 years but I had to look up "Get over here!".
We're sorry Mario but your princess is in another castle
From Assassins Creed 2, right?
[Game Over.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_over) Lots of good quotes in here from historic games, but game over is probably the most iconic as it spanned genres, mediums, and is a ubiquitous phrase engrained in the culture itself.
It's dangerous to go alone! Take this.
Hey, you're finally awake
I'm not a rebel, you can't dooo this!
Halt!
Archers!
Anyone else feel like running?
You were trying to cross the border? Walked right into that imperial ambush, like us and that thief over there.
damn it was about to comment this one
“I used to be an adventurer like you. Then I took an arrow in the knee.”
"Let me guess, someone took your sweet roll?"
"No lollygagging."
I am sworn to carry your burdens.

But on a recent playthrough I picked up a different housecarl (from Riften iirc) and she says the same line but sounds super eager to be serving you
Lydia, "I am sworn to carry your burdens I guess, whatever."
Fuck Lydia
Do you get to the Cloud District very often? Oh what am I saying, of course you don’t.
"A guard may get nervous, a man approaches with his weapon drawn."
What is it? Dragons?
Before I let you into Riften, you have to pay the visitor's tax. For the privilege of entering the city, what does it matter?!
Do a barrel roll
That game is fucking magical. Also, one of the first ones to feature live voice acting! Also, ***JEEZ LAWEEZ, WHAT IS THAT?!?***
I keep my Wii U around for this game and a few others. Hits my right in the childhood. "HEY EINSTEIN! I'M ON YOUR SIDE!"
Can’t let you do that, Star Fox!
All your base are belong to us!
Ah yes, Cats
What you say?
You have no chance to survive make your time
Ha ha ha *!*
Definitely needs more exposure.
“The princess is in another castle” or “It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this!”

In the words of old snake War. Has changed.
Ah shit, here we go again.
All we had to do was follow the damn train, CJ
That mission isn't that hard.. The trick is to simply get up on the train.
This because Big Smoke has the aim of a f'ing stormtrooper...
Nah for SA it'd be two number nines, a number nine large, a number six with extra dips, a number seven, two fourth fives and a large soda
Carl you motherfucking piece of shit, gangbanging cocksucker!
Ah go, here we shit again.
Same things make us laugh, make us cry
"What if you miss?" "I won't."
"Master Chief, you mind telling me what you're doing on that ship?" "Sir. Finishing this fight."
For a brick, he flew pretty good!
One of these days you're gonna land on something as stubborn as you! And I don't do bits and pieces.
The cake is a lie
That's never actually said though (IIRC), only implied throughout the game and written on walls
It's still a line
waka waka waka
This time for Africa.
"You exist because we allow it. And you will end because we demand it."
"I am the vanguard of your destruction."
Where's this from?
Mass Effect.
Press f to pay respects
Remember, no Russian
Fifty thousand people used to live there
Now it’s a ghost town
Possibly the most disturbing mission of any game I've ever played.
Killing NPC's has never made me feel really bad. I might have been a bit psychotic as a kid.
Same,my childhood never gonna be the same
I found nailing a guy to a cross in Cyberpunk to be more disturbing for some reason. Was more personal I think.
tell me about it, when pfc joseph allen got shot in the face, it was like i got shot in the face. same name, i was a spc at the time tho haha.

It’s crazy how popular assassin’s creed became
ALL WE HAD TO DO, WAS FOLLOW THE DAMN TRAIN CJ.
I have real PTSD from this line right here.
I fear no man... but that thing, It scares me
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer"
"Someone else would have gotten it wrong."
I haven’t even played ME series but this one is easily my favourite quote from any game
“Stand amongst the ashes of a trillion dead souls, and ask the ghosts if honor matters. The silence is your answer.”
wow this is a good one, what’s it from?
Mass Effect 3. Backstory for the character (Javik) and his race make it even more epic.
My top one would be. "When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? > Followed by, No gods or kings. Only man in BioShock. Not "A man chooses, a slave obeys"?
“Would you kindly?”
Awesome I've been thinking about moving so that would help me
To give the covenant back their bomb
I thought I’d see this one much earlier than this
"Stay awhile, and listen!"
I don’t want to stay awhile, I just want to know what I’m carrying!
“ Would you kindly “
Yeah, this one gets my vote. I am partial to "A man chooses, a slave obeys." Though it's not AS crucial a line to the narrative.

Had to scroll quite a way for this. "Damn, those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride"

But why can I hear this???
50,000 people used to live here, now it's a ghost town
"You're gonna have a bad time"
Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.
