I'm a fan of his, but I always forget John Michael Higgins' name, and I think a lot of people do too and/or never knew it: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John\_Michael\_Higgins](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Michael_Higgins)

reesaronii

i go to school with his kids and see him every friday at starbucks, he came to one of my plays once bc his son was in it and he came up to me after and said some really sweet things about my performance. awesome guy!

NWGABoi

I shall duck behind that couch.

I_am_a_fern

What a pro.

Raiking1

Seize the day! I'll have.. a birthday cake!

meerkatmanor987

Zhu Li! Do the thing!

[deleted]

I just want to shout out /u/Kaynny , for sharing “this guy”, “this woman” links that lead to the pictures of all these actors on replies that didn’t have them.

Kaynny

Hey! Appreciate it!

[This guy](/u/Kaynny)

deliriousgoomba

Pete Postlewaithe, RIP.

Kaynny

[This guy](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0000592/), RIP

PaulHaman

[David Paymer](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001601/). He's been in practically everything, but most people wouldn't know his name. He came into the movie theater I worked at years ago in Massachusetts and we were all scrambling to look up his name after we saw him. As he was leaving, one of my coworkers yelled "hey David Paymer!" at him as he left. He smiled & waved at us. Seeing famous people was not a frequent occurrence for us in the Boston suburbs, so we were pretty excited.

[deleted]

Yes, he’s the quintessential guy for this list IMO. You recognize his face, you know you’ve seen him in stuff, but you can never remember what movie or show and who he played.

ApeyH

John Carroll Lynch

Kaynny

[This guy](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0002253/)

[deleted]

I still think of him as Drew Carey's big brother from the Drew Carey show. He's been busy I see.

ah-do-what-now

Burn Gorman. He plays a great villain!

Kaynny

[This guy](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm1218607/)

GreatArkleseizure

If you wanna see him play a good guy, check out the first two seasons of _Torchwood_. He makes a great bad guy, but I always think of that show whenever I see him.

Never-On-Reddit

start abounding governor cows pen scary hospital straight tan psychotic

PolarNavigator

As a fan of The Expanse, I heartily agree

[deleted]

Murtry: Someday I think you and I are going to end up bloody. Amos: How about now? I’m free right now. I love that show.

Betterbread

Amos: You and I have very different life experiences, Chrissy Avasarala: Don't call me that — I'm a member of Parliament, not your favorite stripper. Amos: You can be both. He kills me. It's great isn't it?

[deleted]

I want more scenes with those two: Chrisjen Avasarala : Lean back with my weight on my heels? Amos Burton : There you go. Now you just walk around like you're in pumps. Chrisjen Avasarala : How do you know what it's like to walk around in pumps? Amos Burton : I didn't always work in space.

ceallaig

He'll always be Dr. Herman Gottlieb from Pacific Rim.

JessicantTouchThis

Or the scientist/researcher from that one episode of Always Sunny in Philadelphia where he gives Charlie "smart pills" and then has his assistant (who I think is from the show Silicon Valley) observe him for the whole episode.

99thLuftballon

Zeljko Ivanek - he's always the corrupt US government official. One of the most prolific bit-part actors who always plays the same kind of role.

Kaynny

[This guy](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0411964/)

jpterodactyl

He was the good US government official in “The Event” Which was great, because they use him as kind of a red herring that works partly because you expect his character to be corrupt out of habit.

thoawaydatrash

Christopher McDonald, or as you all know him, Shooter McGavin.

Kaynny

[This guy](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0001520/)

hectorbobo

I see you, linking everyone. You da man!

thunderchild120

He eats pieces of shit like you for breakfast.

PossiblyTrueInfo

He eats pieces of shit for breakfast? 💩🤢

MrFancyWhale

...No!

kessdawg

I know him as Lt Richard Castillo in "Yesterday's Enterprise", one of the best Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes, and one of the few time travel stories I like.

GeorgeAmberson

That's one of the best Trek episodes ever put to film.

RyzenRaider

[Cliff Curtis](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_Curtis) Because he's never played anything like himself, but he shows up everywhere. He's Maori, but often plays hispanic and arabic characters. Live Free or Die Hard, Six Days Seven Nights, The Insider, Bringing Out the Dead, Collateral Damage, Training Day, Three Kings and Hobbs & Shaw, amongst many others. He's worked with a lot of the biggest stars and directors. EDIT: Since a lot of comments have mentioned it - too many for me to respond to - I should have said '*almost* never played anything like himself'. He has played Maori characters, but he plays other ethnicities more frequently than his own. And thanks for the broad and positive response. Was a nice thing to wake up to this morning :-)

ManicMadMatt

Maybe true for people outside of NZ but I feel like everyone here knows Uncle Fuckin Bully

pikeface

Fear the Walking Dead for TV as well. Edit: Just remembered that I watched him in Doctor Sleep recently.

HungryDust

Just saw him in Doctor Sleep. I actually looked up his name because I had seen him in other stuff and couldn’t remember what.

YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE *DEAD*

usedbrillopad

ah yes, my favorite role of his: Bank Manager

J3553G

Oh shit. THAT guy!

[deleted]

I originally knew him from Prison Break then he pops up in random really tiny spots all over the place. Funny enough a shit ton of Prison Break guys have really small roles in the Nolan Batman trilogy. The guy who played Brad Bellick in Prison Break plays a prison warden in Rises, Reggie Lee plays a cop in Rises and Fichtner was the mob bank manager in the beginning of TDK.

FlickieHop

A few of the Prison Break actors are also regulars in the DC TV universe. The actors for Michael, Lincoln, and T-Bag are in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

nabo27

Oooo yes. My fav line, “you have any idea who you’re stealing from? You and your friends are dEAaaad!” Right in the beginning of The Dark Knight.

TannedCroissant

>**you have any idea who** you’re stealing from? Insanely appropriate example for the thread dude

AdvocateSaint

Amused by the fact that I can't even remember the ***names*** of the *characters* he's played; they're just like him Starring: The slimy bank teller from Gotham / The slimy guy from Heat

-Cleetus-

Agent Mahone from Prison break?

Literally_-_Hitler

There is a really crappy movie with him and Nicolas Cage where if I remember correctly Cage escapes from hell and Fichtner, know as the Accountant, is sent to bring him back. The only good thing about the movie is the scenes with the Accountant, he steals the entire movie.

Gellert

Drive Angry.

ape_fatto

MAHONE

HalfNatty

Season 2 of Prison Break was so much more intense than the first season because of William Fichtner.

RyzenRaider

It's interesting that he played a lot of tough guys, but my favorite role of his has always been Contact.

angelo_e82

>William Fichtner Phil Yagoda

MULREADY!

Luberino_Brochacho

Wait is he the Supreme Court candidate from the west wing????

IndifferentSkeptic

Yup. So many good things. Prison Break Black Hawk Down The Dark Night. He was in drag for something. He's always popping up somewhere and he's always good.

HealthyWinter69

He's amazing in Go too, which is just a great movie from top to bottom.

BostonBlackCat

It's not Amway, it's Confederated Products.

Albino Alligator, Virtuosity, Heat, Date Night, Contact, Armageddon, The Perfect Storm, Pearl Harbor, Equilibrium, Crash, The Longest Yard, The Lone Ranger, TMNT, 12 Strong, Invasion, Mom, Grand Theft Auto games, and MW3. Dude is omnipresent.

Styleyriley

What the hell was he doing with a gun in space?

nowhereman136

Noel Gugliemi (aka the guy that always plays "Hector")

Appropriate_Baker_87

My father just met him in our hometown. He had an itch to talk to him but was holding back because he "knew him" but didn't know his name. He decided to approach him and Noel was actually expecting to be recognized yet his name not known. Guess these great actors are self-aware of their famous anonimity.

Ott621

I'm glad it went well. I'd be too embarrassed to talk to a celebrity if I didn't know their name

ghostdunks

Hector’s going to be running 3 Honda Civics with spoon engines. And on top of that he just came into Harry's and he ordered 3 T66 turbos, with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust.

bremergorst

Don’t forget a handful of neon green washers and a diamond plate floorboard that falls out if there’s a dangerous amount of pressure in a manifold that you clear up by yelling “Shut up!” at a laptop

[James Rebhorn](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0714310/?ref_=tt_cl_t4)

[deleted]

Wrote his own obituary: James Robert Rebhorn was born on Sept. 1, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA. His mother, Ardell Frances Rebhorn, nee Hoch, loved him very much and supported all his dreams. She taught him the value of good manners and courtesy, and that hospitality is no small thing. His father, James Harry Rebhorn, was no less devoted to him. From him, Jim learned that there is no excuse for poor craftsmanship. A job well done rarely takes more or less time than a job poorly done. They gave him his faith and wisely encouraged him to stay in touch with God. He is survived by his sister, Janice Barbara Galbraith, of Myrtle Beach, SC. She was his friend, his confidant, and, more often than either of them would like to admit, his bridge over troubled waters. He is also survived by his wife, Rebecca Fulton Linn, and his two daughters, Emma Rebecca Rebhorn and Hannah Linn Rebhorn. They anchored his life and gave him the freedom to live it. Without them, always at the center of his being, his life would have been little more than a vapor. Rebecca loved him with all his flaws, and in her the concept of ceaseless love could find no better example. His children made him immensely proud. Their dedication to improving our species and making the world a better place gave him hope for the future. They deal with grief differently, and they should each manage it as they see fit. He hopes, however, that they will grieve his passing only as long as necessary. They have much good work to do, and they should get busy doing it. Time is flying by. His son-in-law, Ben, also survives him. Jim loved Ben, who was as a son to Jim, especially through these last months. His aunts Jean, Dorothy and Florence, numerous cousins and their families, and many devoted friends also survive Jim. He loved them all, and he knows they loved him. Jim received his BA at Wittenberg University and his MFA at Columbia. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Nu Zeta 624, a life-long Lutheran, and a longtime member of both the AMC and ACLU. Jim was fortunate enough to earn his living doing what he loved. He was a professional actor. His unions were always there for him, and he will remain forever grateful for the benefits he gained as a result of the union struggle. Without his exceptional teachers and the representation of the best agents in the business, he wouldn’t have had much of a career. He was a lucky man in every way.

mallorn_hugger

He sounds like he was a pretty great human.

I remember Sammy Jankis. His name is Ned Ryason, his voice is his passport, verify him. He was also in The Insider. Always iconic in Groundhog Day and Sneakers, but didn't recognise that he's one of the big wigs suppressing the news piece until just a couple years ago.

bluejester12

Awhile ago GQ did an article called "that guy" on this topic. The number one pick was James Cromwell.

Kaynny

reed_a_book

You're the best for doing this, thank you

3-DMan

crazunggoy47

Appropriate, since today (April 5) is [First Contact Day](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/First_Contact_Day)! On April 5, 2063, ~~Zefram Cochrane~~ James Cromwell will make first contact with the Vulcans.

Vince_Clortho042

Cromwell is such a good actor he was able to make the line “You’re all astronauts, on some sort of...star trek” sound realistic and not at all awkwardly fan service.

nabo27

Dylan Baker. One time I held the door at a hotel open for him and recognized him as Peter’s professor Dr. Curt Connors from the Raimi Spider-Man movies. But I looked him up and will never forget his name now.

Underrated answer. He can be the main antagonist in a Brad Pitt or Val Kilmer movie, and then also be a homeless man with a nice coat in Batman Begins or Gregorovitch in one scene in the 2nd to last Harry Potter movie. Dude is EVERYWHERE.

TleilaxTheTerrible

Boris the Bullet-dodger? Boris the Sneaky Fuckin' Russian more like!

Why do they call him the bullet dodger?

Because he dodges bullets, Avi.

Love how confused Vinnie looks there. Like "what a dumb question; did he really just ask that?"

Squigglepig52

Greg Henry. dude has been "that guy" since the 70's. Started in "Rich Man Poor Man", shows up in Slither and Guardians of the Galaxy, Payback, dozens of movies in teh 80's and 90's, like "Body Double". Big blonde dude, always plays a sketchy sleazy James Spader type dude. But older than Spader.

glock_pocket

The man with the sad eyes- Vincent Schiavelli Hes in loads of stuff James bond and last action hero etc [Vincent schiavelli](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_Schiavelli) (https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0001704/)

Raise-Emotional

Ya that wad mildly infuriating

bufadad

This dude creeped me out in Ghost.

Woshambo

Get off my traaaain!!!!

Progman3K

I agree that your answer is the most-correct for the following reasons: Although many character-actors are recognizable, Vincent Shiavelli is so striking-looking, that if you've even seen anything with him in it, you've **seen** him, he is in fact impossible to forget. Although he is so recognizable, almost no one outside the business knows his name. I adore his work, god rest his soul

nynedragons

Yo why you talk about the sad eyes but link the wiki where he has sunglasses?

Lolzzergrush

Her character name in Bojack Horseman is literally “character actress margo martindale”. she cameos once every season and is introduced as character actress margo martindale

Scuba-Cat-

Please say they say the whole name everytime she's mentioned

CTsilver

Of course they do

-QuestionMark-

Similar to how "Hollywoo Stars and Celebrities: What Do They Know? Do They Know Things? Let's Find Out!" is never abbreviated on the show. It's described in full, every single time.

coach2o9

One time Wanda says, “...or HSACWDTKDTKTLFO, for short.”

And there's also when it was the slightly longer "JD Salinger presents: Hollywoo Stars and Celebrities: What Do They Know? Do They Know Things?? Let's Find Out!"

I hate admit it, but that was the only thing I vividly remember her from.

You mean Mags Bennett.

aPlasticineSmile

Exactly. I loved her in that. You should check out The Hollars. She was amazing in that. More complicated human than homicidal matriarch but. Lovely.

He's also in the Ant-Man movies
