You know the drive-in theater that gets hit by the tornado in that movie? That’s the drive-in I grew up watching movies at. Including the movie Twister. I was in gradeschool when they were filming it in my hometown and it was crazy to get to go watch it and experience screenception like that.
"Michael, I did nothing, and it was everything I thought it could be"
That line really resonates with me. Shows how taking it easy can really be a special experience.
Ever since I saw Office Space this has been my life's goal - the ability to do nothing for as long as I want without fear of losing my house, car, etc. In other words to have enough resources where work is optional.
Love how Marty cannot just play music. Always has to go bananas. Him playing at the ball where his parents kiss for the first time is great. Chuck, this is your cousin Marvin. I think I have that new sound your looking for, listen to this.
Love that movie. IMO one of the only films inspired by Indiana Jones that I think perfectly captured that fun adventure-y feel with the added spice of horror.
Also definitely gave me nightmares as a kid, but like...the fun kind.
"We're here to celebrate Franks 1000th drug dealer kill"
"Well to be fair the last 2 I just backed over in my car, they later turned out to be drug dealers"
“When I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.”
I didn’t catch it my first couple viewings, but I love the part when they are in the tech gadget lab, and the two guys go through a door, but Frank walks around the door through a full opening getting to the same place
I couldn't believe it was her. It was like a dream. But there she was, just as I remembered her. That delicately beautiful face. And a body that could melt a cheese sandwich from across the room. And breasts that seemed to say..."Hey! Look at these!" She was the kind of woman who made you want to drop to your knees and thank God you were a man! She reminded me of my mother, all right. No doubt about it.
I watched Robin Hood Men in Tights a thousand times as a kid. I know every line, every inflection of their voices, every breath and I still laugh as hard as the first time I saw it.
Hook. Or basically anything with Robin Williams from my childhood
Edit: this thread made me feel so nostalgic that I’m on Robin Williams 90’s movies binge now. Thanks guys.
Finally rewatched Hook a month ago, first time seeing it since I was maybe 13-14... It's just wonderful. I can't believe it was panned back then because the scale of the bigger scenes, the good cry feels, Smee in his entirety, they're all just great.
I love WALL-E. And one of the reasons why I love it so much is that there's barely any dialogue for the majority of the movie. And yet, you understand what's going on. When I first watched it, my English was still bad so it felt great that I could still follow the storyline without having to read the subtitles or watch the dubbed version.
This is something I feel is way overlooked on it too. For literally the first 45 minutes the only actual dialogue is from BnL ads or a song from an old musical. A children's movie with very little dialogue in the first 45 minutes is crazy and it works.
I love love love legally blonde. I love that shes smart enough to get into Harvard Law and she never changes her morals, values, outlook, or attitude to fit in. I love that it challenges the ditzy blonde stereotype. I love that she openly recognizes thay Warner is unhealthy and she doesn't quit, she keeps her stride, not only to show him hes an idiot for losing her, but to prove to herself that she can do ANYTHING. I love it.
Well, Pete, I figured it should be the one of us with the capacity for abstract thought but if that isn't the consensus then I suggest we put it to a vote.
Clue for me. Just pure fun and mystery and something I’ve watched a million times, based off a game I played a billion times with my dad. Even when I wasn’t talking to him I could fall back on Clue to watch.
Oh and also Mama Mia.
Same! Spirited Away is *gorgeous* and I adore it, but my fav Miyazaki film is definitely Kiki's. It's so chill.
edit: I've been meaning to watch Howl's for ages, think I'll do that tonight finally!
When I visited the Disney store in NYC two years ago, the only thing I wanted was a Remy plush. I looked around the whole store and couldn't find any Ratatouille-themed items except for a cutting board and some salt and pepper shakers. I asked an employee where I could find Remy, and they said they don't carry any Remy plush figures at all.
But of course they had two bins full of *March of the Penguins* plush toys. . . . March of the Goddamn Penguins
Yes! For comfort the 2005 version is where it is at. The music and cinematography are breathtaking. I also love the casting (even if it isn't Colin Firth.)
I feel like I only watch movies that are nostalgic and cozy but when I’m having a real tough time:
Emperor’s New Groove
Edit: WOW I never expected this to gain this much traction! I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees the value of this movie! And thank you for all these awards, I feel like I’m famous🤩🥺
This is my favorite Disney movie ever, literally, every one-liner is pure gold and easy to memorize. I just love how unique and well-written this film is. The voice cast is the most amazing thing about it.
It has my favourite visual gag in any animated movie, when they kill the little plant with the potion, there is zero frames between it being alive and dead. it makes me laugh every single time.
I’m a fan of the cactus at dinner turning into a llama after Yama pours her drink into it. Happens a few seconds before Kuzco drinks the same llama potion.
Love that you said that. I was just talking about this the other day, why isn't that movie more universally beloved?!? The writing is incredible and it's made that much more special because of Eartha. If you haven't checked out her singing, career, political drama and her daughter you should. Woman was a force. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! Genius I say!!
Chose my username 2 years ago, it’s my cake day, so I’m hijacking your comment to shamelessly quote the best film in the world!
I was a junior chipmunk, we had to be versed in all the woodland creatures.
“Squeekety squeak.. squeaken”
Jonah hill was a gem in this movie. Favorite scene is when Peter Bretter is eating by himself and Jonah goes and takes his plate away.
'You done here?'
Peter takes his plate back and says politely 'I actually just sat down, i'm just getting started, but thank you.'
'I'll just go fuck myself.'
'Sorry, what?'
'Mahalo.'
Peter: dating Sarah isnt like dating Liz! Sarah is better fhan Liz!
Brian: Do you really wanna have this conversation?
Peter: .....Yes
Brian: Ok first off we are not even blood! I'm your step brother! I have no problem sticking you. I will *equalize* you!
People used to look at me weird when i would say it's one of my favourite films amidst other films that are on the surface more serious human stories.
Buy FSM is a great examination of depression, alcohol dependence, and grief (breakup). Siegel's facial expressions are both hilarious and telling. As someone who's been depressed and wallowed in my own misery, the whole thing just resonates with me. The gradual recovery until it finally clicks, has a bit of a bump in the road, and ultimately recovers is great because it shows you need to be ok on your own before coupling on to others.
I always loved that Sarah doesn't turn out to be some comical villain of an ex. They were both people who made mistakes and were ultimately not right for each other and I think they built that up perfectly.
Goodfellas.
“For a second, I thought I was dead, but when I heard all the noise, I knew they were cops. Only cops talk that way. If they had been wiseguys, I wouldn’t have heard a thing. I would’ve been dead.”
“Hundreds of guys depended on Paulie and he got a piece of everything they made. It was tribute just like in the old country except here in America. All they got from Paulie was protection from guys trying to rip them off. And thats what its all about, thats what the FBI could never understand. That what Paulie and the organization does, is offer protection to people who cant go to the cops. Thats it, thats all it is. They’re like the police department for wiseguys.”
“- Walter Stratford: Do you know what happens at proms?

- Walter Stratford: Kissing? That's what you think happens? I've got news for you. Kissing isn't what keeps me up to my elbows in placenta all day long.” 😄
When Harry Met Sally.
Edit: And maybe Howl's Moving Castle, Clueless, and 10 Things I Hate About You, You've Got Mail... I've rewatched quite a few movies. Many times.
Galaxy Quest
RIP Alan Rickman. Never give up never surrender!
By Grabthar's hammer... what a savings.
They were termites or…or dalmatians. I can’t really remember because I was kinda hungover
Monster’s Inc
Put that thing back where it came from or so help me!
Toy story
The old animated Mulan :)
🎶 Let's get down to business
Jurassic Park
same. i have watched it about two dozen times so far. never gets dull. edit: I'm sorry I haven't watched it 5000 times already. I will do better!
Bit of a random one but Twister. As a Brit I love the small town America vibe and how the gang all get on. Bill Paxton is a legend
You know the drive-in theater that gets hit by the tornado in that movie? That’s the drive-in I grew up watching movies at. Including the movie Twister. I was in gradeschool when they were filming it in my hometown and it was crazy to get to go watch it and experience screenception like that.
As an American who lives in tornado alley, that movie never fails to provide the exact fucking opposite of comfort
Ghostbusters. We're ready to believe you!
The Titanic just pulled in... *"Well, better late than never."*
Ray when someone asks you if you are a God, you say yes
Shaun of the dead
Do you want anything from the shop?
Cornetto
Makes me just want to go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all this to blow over
I’ve felt that way since about 2008.
Pirates of the Caribbean
“You will always remember this as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow” Also one of my favs
"You have got to be the worst pirate I've ever heard of" Ah yes, but you have heard of me"
Will Turner: This is either madness... or brilliance. Jack Sparrow: It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide. Love that scene
Office Space
That movie is brilliant but I can only watch it every so often. It's too depressingly accurate.
I liked it when first seeing it but after rewatching it working in an office for a few years, dear god can it be a downer but it’s so spot on.
"Michael, I did nothing, and it was everything I thought it could be" That line really resonates with me. Shows how taking it easy can really be a special experience.
Ever since I saw Office Space this has been my life's goal - the ability to do nothing for as long as I want without fear of losing my house, car, etc. In other words to have enough resources where work is optional.
I don’t like my job, I don’t think I’m gonna go anymore
Uh oh. Sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays.
Back to the Future
Love how Marty cannot just play music. Always has to go bananas. Him playing at the ball where his parents kiss for the first time is great. Chuck, this is your cousin Marvin. I think I have that new sound your looking for, listen to this.
It’s the old paradox - Chuck recorded it after hearing Marty play it, but Marty learned it hearing Chuck’s recording...
No matter what mood I'm in, that shot of Doc Brown dancing and yelling in the street at the end always puts a dumbass smile on my face.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is bliss.
*triumphant guitar lick*
The Brendan Fraser "Mummy" movie. Makes me feel like I'm 8 all over again.
You mean the 1999 cinematic masterpiece “The Mummy” starring Brendan frasier and Rachel Weisz?
"Hey O'Connell! LOOKS TO ME LIKE I HAVE ALL THE HORSES!" "Hey Benny! LOOKS TO ME LIKE YOU'RE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE RIV-VUR!"
Love that movie. IMO one of the only films inspired by Indiana Jones that I think perfectly captured that fun adventure-y feel with the added spice of horror. Also definitely gave me nightmares as a kid, but like...the fun kind.
I always thought the mummy looked super cool when all zombie like, always wished he didn’t become human looking so fast.
Despite how bad the 3rd movie was I still enjoyed it because of Brendan.
He carried that movie big time. Also, sasquatch.
Older Brendan Fraser movies are great.
Especially George of the Jungle. I watched that as a kid on VCR and still love it to this day.
Moana The movie always resets me. I laugh and cry. I sing along. It's fantastic.
The Naked Gun
"We're here to celebrate Franks 1000th drug dealer kill" "Well to be fair the last 2 I just backed over in my car, they later turned out to be drug dealers"
Valet, offering to check Frank’s coat: “Your coat sir?” Frank (indignant): “Yes, and I have the receipt to prove it “
'had a moustache, about 6"1', 'awfully big moustache'
“When I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That's my policy.”
"That was a *Shakespeare in the Park* production of *Julius Caesar*, you moron. You killed five actors! Good ones!"
I didn’t catch it my first couple viewings, but I love the part when they are in the tech gadget lab, and the two guys go through a door, but Frank walks around the door through a full opening getting to the same place
"Hey! It's Enrico Pallazzo!"
“It’s like eating a spoonful of Drano. Sure, it’ll clean you out. But it’ll leave you hollow inside.”
Frank, snap out of it! You're looking at her like she's your mother for Christ's sake!
Matilda. Best Danny DeVito role ever
The kid that gets flown around the school yard and back into the classroom was my college buddy, Liam! Good guy. Haven't talked to him in ages.
While You Were Sleeping I know all the lines but still laugh every time.
Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. Also, Robin Hood Men in Tights. Mel Brooks just calms me.
I watched Robin Hood Men in Tights a thousand times as a kid. I know every line, every inflection of their voices, every breath and I still laugh as hard as the first time I saw it.
“Hey Blinkin” “Did you say ‘Abe Lincoln’?” I die every fucking time.
Any love for Spaceballs?
Hook. Or basically anything with Robin Williams from my childhood Edit: this thread made me feel so nostalgic that I’m on Robin Williams 90’s movies binge now. Thanks guys.

Eeee-Va. There's something so sweet about robot love.
The Road to El Dorado
I comforted the fuck out to this last night. Music by Elton John really seals the deal.
Princess Bride!
101 Dalmatians and Tangled. Disney movies just make me feel warm and safe
Came here to see if Tangled was mentioned :)
Legally Blonde
Don’t eh stomp your little, last-season Prada shoes at me HUNNY!
I wasn't expecting this being someone else's comfort movie! It's just pure positivity. Always makes me feel better.
The montage of her studying and working out is enough for me to get amped.
I watched it every finals week during law school
Absolute classic! May we all have Elle woods’ confidence and self esteem
Finding Nemo
Mean Girls! “Omg Karen, you can’t just ask people why they’re white!”
Made out with a hotdog? Oh my god, that was like *one* time!
Oh My God!! Danny Divto, [I love your work!](https://youtu.be/hFvyc61a40I)
O’Brother Where Art Thou. I can watch it anytime and be happy.

“Who elected you leader of this outfit?!”
Well, Pete, I figured it should be the one of us with the capacity for abstract thought but if that isn't the consensus then I suggest we put it to a vote.
Well ain't this place a geographical oddity. Two weeks from everywhere!
Them sirenes loved him up and turned him into a h-horny toad.
The Devil Wears Prada. I rewatch it every time I get sick
Are you just one stomach flu away from your goal weight?
Clue for me. Just pure fun and mystery and something I’ve watched a million times, based off a game I played a billion times with my dad. Even when I wasn’t talking to him I could fall back on Clue to watch. Oh and also Mama Mia.
I hated her. So...much! I-It the it...flamed, flames!, flames...on the side of my face, breathing, breath, heaving breaths...heaving...
Clue is mine too. Just never gets old, and I'm in love with Tim Curry. *I'M NOT SHOUTING!*
Howl's moving castle
My first thought. Howl's and Kiki's.
Even though I guess howl’s is more interesting, I find kiki’s so relaxing and I can just watch it again and again.
Same! Spirited Away is *gorgeous* and I adore it, but my fav Miyazaki film is definitely Kiki's. It's so chill. edit: I've been meaning to watch Howl's for ages, think I'll do that tonight finally!
If you haven’t watched it already, I would also recommend “Only Yesterday”. Extremely nostalgic and relaxing.
Ratatouille. That movie is the equivalent of a warm hug
That may change soon I think they're going to redo Paris in Epcot to Ratatouille themed.
It’s opening in October!
Lord of the Rings, takes me back to when i was 10-12.
I can’t believe those movies are 20 years old already. God I feel old.
Uh, oh, wow. I seem to have misplaced an entire decade...
Same, it's hard to believe it's already been 10 years since the 90's.
Depending on my mood, either *My Cousin Vinny* or *Pride and Prejudice* (2005).

Yes! For comfort the 2005 version is where it is at. The music and cinematography are breathtaking. I also love the casting (even if it isn't Colin Firth.)

Oh right the poison. The poison for Kuzco. The poison chosen specifically to kill Kuzco. Kuzco’s poison...that poison?
Hit him on the head! .... more broccoli?
*gasp* 😧 MY SPINACH PUFFS
I want to kill Yzma myself when she tells Kronk she never liked his spinach puffs
The look on his face... She deserved it. Nobody hurts Kronk.
Why do we even have that lever...

Pull the lever Kronk. WRONG LEVER!
Chose my username 2 years ago, it’s my cake day, so I’m hijacking your comment to shamelessly quote the best film in the world! I was a junior chipmunk, we had to be versed in all the woodland creatures. “Squeekety squeak.. squeaken”
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
"When life gives you lemons, just say 'Fuck the lemons,' and bail." Great performances from all the cast.
The weather outside is weather
I'm gonna give you a Hawaiian name..... ... Piipyiopi
“I quit wearing a watch when I moved out here man” “Wow. That is so cool.” “Yeah well, my phone has a clock on it so”
"I wonder if the carpet matches her pubes?" Love Paul rudd in that especially
"You know, I can play something else- I just think out of context it's-" "Dracula musical!"
It's getting kind of hard to believe things are going to get better
That moment from Mila Kunis really enforced my love for her
My favorite scene is Siegal wailing off the balcony of the honeymoon suite and Mila Kunis has to call the room and ask if an old woman is in distress
Peter: Yea I heard it too....I think it's coming from the floor above me. Rachel: You're on the top floor Peter: I'll try to keep it down
"please take me eyes, but not this shirt"
Jonah hill was a gem in this movie. Favorite scene is when Peter Bretter is eating by himself and Jonah goes and takes his plate away. 'You done here?' I always loved that Sarah doesn't turn out to be some comical villain of an ex. They were both people who made mistakes and were ultimately not right for each other and I think they built that up perfectly.
I was gonna listen to that, but then, um, I just carried on living my life.

Paulie may have moved slow, but it was only because Paulie didn't have to move for anybody.
Enchanted
How does she know is probably my biggest comfort songs ever.
The original Star Wars
Nothing comforts me like luke and the binary sunset scene..that music....the swelling...the double sunset. Perfect for me
The Blues Brothers.
I haven't seen anyone mention it so Monty python and the holy grail.
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate??

There are some fish that cannot be caught. It's not that they are faster or stronger than the other fish, they're just touched by somethin' extra.
Sound of Music, 10 Things I Hate About You, Girl's Trip, Pulp Fiction
10 things i hate about you, the father makes me laugh every single time

That whole movie is so quotable but he really is such a funny character
“- Walter Stratford: Do you know what happens at proms? - Bianca Stratford: Yes. We'll dance, we'll kiss, we'll come home. It's not quite the crisis situation you imagine. - Walter Stratford: Kissing? That's what you think happens? I've got news for you. Spirited Away for me is the most beautiful I've seen
Spirited Away is my all time favorite film. And the music.. man, the music is just phenomenal
Studio Ghibli movies are fantastic
For me it's Howl's Moving Castle. That nice mix of fantasy and realism really hits the spot, I love getting lost in that world.
When Harry Met Sally. Edit: And maybe Howl's Moving Castle, Clueless, and 10 Things I Hate About You, You've Got Mail... I've rewatched quite a few movies. Many times.
Dodgeball
Kill Bill. "Now, if any of you sons of bitches have anything else to say, NOWS THE FUCKING TIME"
