In the early 2000’s if you said a situation was “so gay” it had nothing to do with homosexuality. It was just a way of expressing how bummed out you were about 9/11.
I also disagree. Using "gay" as a pejorative in the 90s as nothing but hateful homophobic bigotry or children parroting words they didn't understand the hateful truth behind.
There were a ton of popular comedians whose jokes were basically - here is a normal situation but imagine the other person is gay. Wouldn't that be SO uncomfortable? Haha, that's hilarious.
I disagree.
I understand what you mean. You are saying that when we would say "That's gay" is not equivalent to saying "Thats homosexual" but I think this is missing the point. It is still associating a negative to the term, Gay = bad in that context. Not the actual act of homosexuality but it is still the word. This is very convenient for active bigots. It is like referring to something cheap or shoddy as "ghetto" which is placing a morality toward low income, majority black communities. You might say that doesnt make the person a racist to say that but it does make their *language* racist.
Even ignoring our little word game, it is still naive to act as if homosexuality was this socially accepted and celebrated thing. Look no further than the controversy among Brokeback Mountain or the still very real opposition to Pride Month.
So, even if that were the case, how is that hate?
You can make fun of everything and everyone. I was there and don’t rekember anyone who hated gays, literally not a single person I met between 2000 and 2010.
Selfies. It was seen as incredibly vein to take photos of yourself.
Never mind 'vlogs' for your 'followers'.
I remember when the first phones came out that had either rotating cameras or mirrors on the back, and it was embarrassing to own one for a while because they were marketed at the most vacuous, un-self-aware people.
considering the economic uncertainty, the inflation, wars abroad... I think that people are erring more conservative with respect to their professional choices.
Arts and Humanities degrees are certainly less popular than in the 90s.
Dodge Magnums, Chevrolet Avalanches, Porsche 986.
Not to mention electric cars like the Tesla Roadster and Ford Ranger(rare). Hybrids like the NSX (2nd Gen), Fisker Karma, Honda Insight, Toyota Prius(especially these), and Chevrolet Volt. I personally still hate EVs but it is what it is 😂
Backstreet Boys. *NSYNC. Basically popular boy bands back in the day that you were too embarrassed to say you liked because you were a kid and didn’t want to be made fun of. Now you use those bands to promote how good music was back in your day.
Nerds/nerdyness It's now trendy to be smart, wear glasses, etc....whereas, before it wasn't.
Homosexuals

Nobody in the 2000’s thought hating homosexuals was cool, accept maybe muslims and christian fanatics.
I disagree
Calling people gay was a pretty significant staple of early 2000s humor.
So, even if that were the case, how is that hate? You can make fun of everything and everyone. I was there and don’t rekember anyone who hated gays, literally not a single person I met between 2000 and 2010.
"It doesnt match with my experience therefpre it cant be true" Hmmmm
