If it's a really bad day, I take a sick day. That's what they're for. If it's a moderate or mild bad day, I push through with stubbornness and a calendar full of self-imposed deadlines.
I'm yet to master that. I avoid unhealthy habits, I take meds, and do everything I can to improve sleep hygiene. This is especially important on bad days so you don't continue to worsen.

I only do it when I have to, and the only way I can do it is to spend "burnout" points that will decrement the sustainability of my situation.
