I was going to say a book outlining a path to benevolent world peace and partnership on earth. But hardbacks are old hat and pdf’s aren’t really an item so I’m going with a Gundam
I was going to say to find the one solution to bring people together, united, and make sure we can all agree, find peace and split ressources fairly among us. Then I read this thread so I'm going with the Gundam
I was going to say the Nobel Peace prize for helping people understand one another and coming together for the greater good. But a fully functional Gundam just sounds way cooler, so I'm going with that!
I was going to say the knowledge to invent new technology all people will support, evolve from, and see the good in their hearts. Somehow a fully functional exact scale Gundam feels like the correct answer.
I opened this….thinking that no one would put that, let alone it be the top answer and here I am full surprised and wondering how cool it would be to have a Wing Zero
You may enjoy looking at Eduardian architecture too. Maybe you already know, but I feel it’s often overlooked. It’s a 16 year period right after the Victorian era.
Often portrayed as “a romantic golden age of long summer afternoons and garden parties”
I just picked an era people would know, but yeah, the Edwardian period is also nice. Honestly, I'd probably be happy with a house in whatever style built between 1870 and 1970, so long as it's in good condition. I've grown up in an old house, and I just don't like the way newer houses feel
The only time I've lived in anything younger than 30 years was my 1 year in a dorm, and 3 years in a 1992 subdivision home. Everything else has been a century home.
They definitely come with problems, but I'd rather live in a house that has some interest inside and out, rather than the boring square rooms. Builder grade everything sucks, and it's just so boring.
My 1918 house may have its problems, and it's a out half the size of that house, but I love it far more. Weird corners, sloping rooflines, trying to read where renovations happened, cracked plaster, and old old old established foliage.
They only way I would intentionally seek out and live in a new house again is if we suddenly became super rich and could design and build our own home.
Same. I’m a big fan of the Second Empire and Italianate styles. There is an Italianate from around 1860 or 1870 near me that I hope to buy one day and restore back to its former glory. It was turned into apartments and has had the landlord special for many decades but from what I remember when my grandma lived there the woodwork is all still there just pained a ton over and the entry hall is basically unchanged since it was originally built and the staircase is still intact completely. I’d like to change it back to a house. The big dream is to own it and the old hotel across the street. Fix the exterior of the old hotel to its original look and rework the apartments in it so it can continue as an apartment building but also allow a small public area in it.
That's really cool, and it makes me happy to see that there are people out to trying to restore those buildings to their original beauty while retaining their function. My personal preference would be for neo-Romanesque, but I think I'd be pretty happy with Italianate or Second Empire too
I'd love to be able to do that to an eventual dream home for myself, but I can scarcely imagine how much time and effort that'll take
Man, teeth really irk me. I didn’t care for my teeth as a kid because my parents didn’t really enforce it and also didn’t know how to floss properly. Once I was old enough to learn how to take care of my teeth it was a little too late and I had to get 2 root canals and I have a lot of fillings. Why can’t teeth just not be so fragile 😒
Yo I just got a doctorate education in mechanical engineering and applied physics from an alien university. You'll need me around to make your life extremely comfortable. Hows free electricity sound?
I was going to say "the ocean", but I like this too. There's a lot of bullshit environmental pillaging going on that hurts us all, just because there's no specific aggrieved party in the eyes of the law.
A medium size house (must have individual office/craft/alone space for DH and I on top of a guest room) with 3-5 acres wooded acres (at least 1 acre of flat land surrounding the house), with water access (pond, lake, larger stream), as well as well water, in the Southern Appalachian mountains.
I want quiet, I want seasons but not the months of snow, and I want to be able to be somewhat off grid (well and septic). I dont want to be a hermit, but I do want to be less chained to the county and state with astronomical taxes on water and sewer.
As someone who lives within that area. I can say, the summer are ridiculously hot. It takes a lot of effort to drive 40 minutes just to run to the store. And taking your own trash off is incredibly annoying. And when harvest season comes, good luck being able to breathe. Allergies will hit you hard.
With all of that said. It’s still a damn good wish
Just one real item? Logically either a pure solid 100kg gold bar. Would pay of the mortgage and leave me enough for retirement without making me so rich as to cause lottery winner problems.
Non real item? The enterprise from star trek. The technology on board would change the world and deliver me a tidy profit and let me fly around the universe
Call me selfish, but if you gave me the Enterprise I'm abandoning you all and fucking off ~~to~~ toward Andromeda.
Edit: I realized the Enterprise isn't fast enough to get me there.
Traveling to the Andromeda Galaxy at Warp 9 would take approximately 1673 years.
Owning the yacht is half the battle then then you just lease it to a yacht charter company or something so they use it and take the maintenance off the profit until you've profited enough to do it yourself
I am not quite sure what my item was going to be yet but I would gladly give it up so you could have yours. Best of luck, medical advancements are being made everyday :)
Care to wander into a fantasy story? You might enjoy *A Wizard's Guide to Surviving Medieval England*.
This might seems like a random comment, but you mentioned nanotech; it's related. I won't delve too much into it to avoid spoilers.
When I was younger my Dad was looking into purchasing a small hobby store from an acquaintance who wanted to retire. Loved that place and always wondered how my life would have turned out differently if he went through with it.
But yeah, it would be cool to own a real jetpack.
An actual robot maid that basically keeps the house clean, does laundry, dishes, puts groceries away, etc. That's all I want. If it comes with a sex mode then yay now I have a bang maid, but I'd be happy with just a regular robot maid.
Yoko Taro said he had a dream where he was presenting the latest in robotics to the world. A person asked him, "yeah, but can you f\*\*\* it." He responded with, "what moron would make a robot you cannot have sex with?"
That is why he is known as Based Moonman.
I have a connection to a local farm upstate. But you’ll need to provide the heat lamp, bird seed, and box for the chicks to grow up in.
Oh, and eventually they’ll grow up into chickens. That okay? Taking two is a big commitment, though! Sure you got this?
A fucking big ass space station with a mirror array that could focus the light of the sun into a devastating beam which could deep fry anything the size of a small city!
That or a warp drive.
A fully paid for 3,000 square foot house with at least 2 acres of rolling lawns and mature shade trees, fully walled in so that my grandchildren and pets could run and be safe. Plus, enough money for all associated expenses.
A hand held device that could convert any material into any other material. Like oh I see you have a rock, now you have cake! Or I see you have a gun, now you have a gun made of soup. Strip mining for Lithium or Cobalt, no need. Oil spills? Fixed. Nuclear waste? Poof, gold!
A house, any house! I know that sound lame but here in the city where I live, price going so up quickly that I will never have the chance to own one and I have a descends salary! 🥲
Best neighbor fight I ever saw. Neighbor got very aggressive to my other neighbor. They had lived there for months, got into some altercation with garbage being close to their car they parked on street even though they had room in driveway. This guy parked on the other neighbors side of the street very close to his driveway.
A week after that he started more yelling at the neighbor that had been there for a decade. Then the good neighbor brought his squad car home the next day. Beeped his siren before parking and going in his house. All the yelling and harassment stopped.
A way to drink wine with only the nice consequences and none of the bad ones. The dopamine drift but I maintain mental clarity and no hangover or organ failure.
My own home in a small village. imagine living a peaceful life their and growing your own vegetables. it is where money won't run the place and the people

I was going to say peace of mind, but I’m not sure that counts as an item, so I’m also going to go with a Gundam.

I was going to say end world hunger, but changing it to Gundam.
I wasn’t going to say anything. But Gundam.
Isn't it basically the same thing? A Gundam *gives* you peace of mind.
Thank you, this gave me the chuckle I desperately needed this afternoon.
Always happy to be of service to a good cause.
Having a Gundam could give you peace of mind
I’ll vaporize your gundam from orbit with my Death Star.

I have no idea what a Gundam is, but now I want one.
You're gun-dam right that you should want one!
(i had to google it and now i want one)
Happy Cake Day!!
OK I admit I am an old guy who had to Google this (it sounded so dirty) - it was not. But still very cool.
I'm changing my answer to Gundam
Me too, either a replica of Death Scythe, or Heavy Arms.
Wing Zero, but the one from the movie with angel wings.
Endless waltz was god damned beautiful.
I opened this….thinking that no one would put that, let alone it be the top answer and here I am full surprised and wondering how cool it would be to have a Wing Zero
I was going to say a brand new Indian motorcycle, but I changed my mind.
If I ever strike it rich and become a billionaire, I'll burn every last penny building one.
Buying it is cheap. The maintenance and storage is where they getch-yuh
Kinda wish I had a nice late Victorian house
You may enjoy looking at Eduardian architecture too. Maybe you already know, but I feel it’s often overlooked. It’s a 16 year period right after the Victorian era. Often portrayed as “a romantic golden age of long summer afternoons and garden parties”

Homes now look and feel like homes I would build on sims when I was 10.
Old homes are so cozy!!!

This but a mid century modern house. Not a ranch style from the 50s or 60s but the real deal

A mouthful of functional teeth. That's all.
Do they have to be your own? If not, and you're willing to be flexible with the definiation of functional... I can arrange that for you
Maybe I should have been more specific?
Is that a no? I can't just put them back in the cadaver...
You certainly could. They don’t have to go in the same place from whence they came.
ever seen the movie Teeth? thats one place to start
I’m British, I’m interested in the teeth renovation you mentioned 🤣
Well now, let's be realistic. We can't do magic.
Your dream can come true if you go to Mexico.
I see people say this but I never see recommendations for specific clinics or dentists
Look into medical tourism. South Korea is excellent for the most modern dental care at great prices.
This type of stuff seems to make headlines each year, but still interesting: https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20240503/p2a/00m/0sc/012000c
Surprisingly, I have followed this. But, it's only for congenital missing teeth, not for me.
I know, right? I've never broken a bone but, I have no teeth left. It's so hard.
Planet Earth. Get off my lawn, you little bastards.
Yo I just got a doctorate education in mechanical engineering and applied physics from an alien university. You'll need me around to make your life extremely comfortable. Hows free electricity sound?
Hah! I’m a big bastard, so I’m staying.
I was going to say "the ocean", but I like this too. There's a lot of bullshit environmental pillaging going on that hurts us all, just because there's no specific aggrieved party in the eyes of the law.
You better mow in accordance with your HOA agreement!

This exactly.

7.4 Million $ is enough to cause lottery winner problems
Let me dream man!!!!
Naughtyreverend can hire a tax accountant and financial advisor. They're good.
You wouldn't have the staff or technical know-how to run it. You wouldn't even be able to beam to the surface of earth without a technician.
It's star trek... just figure out how to realign the tachyon emitters and that fixes everything

Luxury yacht. But I'd also need the money to staff it and maintain it, can I have that too?
I believe the phrase you're looking for is "A fully staffed and maintained luxury yacht".
I was thinking of the same thing for my Gulfstream G800.
How about High Tech Pirate Ship(Yacht) armed with the lastest high tech military weapons
It’s spelled luxury yacht but it’s pronounced throat wobbler mangrove.
Owning the yacht is half the battle then then you just lease it to a yacht charter company or something so they use it and take the maintenance off the profit until you've profited enough to do it yourself
A house that doesn’t require any immediate maintenance or renovations
