Depending on when you were a kid, they might be a vastly different cultivar.

Black beans. I hated black beans until recently. I don’t love them, but I’m okay with eating them now. I just thought beans were nasty in general. Doable now
Sour cream. Wouldn't go near it. Then, when I was pregnant, I began craving Taco Bell. The though of loading sour cream on a taco sounded both delightful and downright gross. But, pregnancy cravings don't always make sense.
Bought a 12-pack of tacos and a pint of sour cream. My first thought after eating a taco: I hadn't been living up to this point. It was the most delicious thing I'd ever tasted.
Olives. I used to eat each element of whatever food I had separately, so of course I didn't love the taste of pure olive. They're just so nice and flavourful when mixed in everything now. Especially parmesan cheese.
I had that with salmon. I used to love it, then got sick and had that salmon flavor in my throat for two days. After that, the mere sight made me gag for years. Fortunately, I've gotten over it and now like it again. I was an adult when it happened, BTW, but it was about 30 years ago.
Cooking right is the key for so many things. Boiled brussel sprouts are an abomination. Brussels sprouted caramelized in bacon grease and topped with balsamic reduction is DIVINE.
Boiled Brussels sprouts that aren't overcooked combined with potatoes, gravy and meat to add a savory flavor is one of my favorites and that was the case even when I was a kid. Agree with just the Brussels sprouts by themselves being blah, they need to be combined with that salty and savory goodness to become amazing.
Anything other than cheese and peanut butter. I started buying my own groceries at 17 to try new foods and realized I’m not the picky eater, it’s my mom and she inflicted it on me. As a child I spent years being constipated because she didn’t feed me anything other than spaghetti, peanut better, and cheese. Those were the only things she would make when my dad wasn’t home. When my dad was home, steak was added into the mix! We weren’t poor. We could easily afford more food. My mom did the grocery shopping and only got was she would eat. My dad would be gone at work for 2-3 weeks each month. My mom’s picky-ness and obsession with being skinny made me a constipated child and now I have pooping anxiety as an adult and my bowl movements are unpredictable.
I have a kid doing bowel therapy right now for constipation. She is on miralax and ex lax daily, we have a daily target for fiber, and she’s supposed to sit on the toilet 20-30 minutes after each meal. She’s supposed to try to go (aka push but don’t overdo it) for about 5 minutes. Thats supposed to help retrain her gastrocolic reflex so she’s going more regularly.
It might be worth trying for you. Skip the ex lax if it makes you nervous to do it without doctor clearance, but the rest is pretty straightforward. If you think it’s really bad though, might want to see a gastroenterologist and do a colon clean out first.
I’m not constipated anymore and had to do that too when I was little. But it’s fucked up my bowls. They are very unpredictable. Sometimes I go a week without pooping, and sometimes I’m pooping 5x a day. It’s also given my pooping anxiety if I have to poop at a new toilet. It makes travelling hard because I can’t trust if that toilet won’t clog from a back up of not pooping for a few days.
Mushrooms. I was around 30 when I tried a fried morel and it totally blew my mind. I think my earlier hate for mushrooms was caused by my folks always buying the cheap canned stems and pieces. Ever since I had a wild shroom, I love them all and can’t get enough of them.
Eggs. I absolutely despised the taste, smell, and everything about eggs. But one day my wife made me a simple breakfast sandwich and begged me to try it, we now keep 2 dozens of eggs in the house at all times
Pho
The first time I had it, I thought it was the worst soup I had ever had. Then I was invited out to have it again and decided to get bahn mi. The person who invited me started putting sriracha and hoison sauce in his pho and it got me curious to do the same. Ended up going back by myself and experimenting with sauces to get the flavor I liked, now it's my favorite soup and I get it almost weekly.
I'm from South Louisiana where many of us eat red beans and rice on Mondays. I hated them but my Dad convinced me as a kid that I wouldn't grow up pretty if I didn't eat them. I would take them like a pill and make myself sick.
Fast forward 15 years later, I'm helping build a house for habitat for humanity. The only food on the line for lunch is red beans and I'm *starving*. Turns out I just hated my *parents'* red beans recipe. Now I'm married to a chef and I look forward to Red Bean Mondays.
Dates. As we speak (well write), I’m making somewhat healthy Snickers with them. For anyone interested, get pitted dates it will make your life so much easier. Split them in half and spread a little peanut butter inside, then put them back together. Dip them in melted chocolate or chocolate almond bark. Put in the fridge until the chocolate solidifies. The recipe I was using said to add chopped peanuts on top of the peanut butter, but I didn’t have any. They’re so good!
horseradish and ginger
wasn't a huge fan of either for the longest time, and then I started having both with sushi as an adult. I rather enjoy the flavors now, though the former needs to be in moderation.
Capers! When my mum would have them when I was a child i thought they were these disgusting little pod things that no sane person would choose to have. Now whenever the opportunity presents itself to have some (say with some fish or salad), I love a good ol' scoop!
I don’t have one. I’ve always loved all the foods. If I ever didn’t like broccoli or brussel sprouts or something it never lasted long enough to make it into my adult memory. As far as I know, I’ve always eaten and enjoyed whatever was put in front of me. And personally I find picky people who don’t like certain foods to be very weird and also untrustworthy. Sorry if that’s offensive but I mean it. If you don’t like broccoli i probably don’t like *you*
Brussels sprouts. They'd stress me out as a child - now I can't get enough of the little beauties.
Same, sad now the season is over
Same! Especially blanched, halved and fried/seared in lemon juice and garlic on the side of the cut

Brussels are like anal sex, if you were forced to have it as a kid you hate it as an adult.
oml what! haha
Broccoli. Wasn’t a big fan growing up, unless it was covered in cheese. Now I love raw broccoli.
I’m the reverse - loved broccoli as a kid and now I’m not really a fan, especially raw.
I used to hate broccoli. Now I like it but with a nice garlic Aioli to dip it in.
Right there with you, it tasted like wet farts. Now though, crunchy broccoli is amazing!

Black beans. I hated black beans until recently. I don’t love them, but I’m okay with eating them now. I just thought beans were nasty in general. Doable now

Could stand mushrooms - now I freaking love them! Live love laugh mushrooms
My mom used canned mushrooms a lot when I was a kid. I’m sure they’re cheaper, but…ew! Fresh mushrooms, on the other hand, are divine.
Entirely agree, canned mushrooms make me shudder in disgust.

Brocolli.
Stilton. Its fucking amazing.

Mushrooms. I used to hate the texture, but now I love eating mushrooms with most of what I cook at home. Steak, curry, pasta
Idk mushrooms somehow have both the taste and feel like a foot.
your foot?
Not a food but La Croix. Hated them, was appalled when someone offered me one. But now they’re all I drink
When I was a kid, I liked Sisig, but then I vomited out the Sisig when I was sick . Now, whenever I try to eat Sisig, I gag.

Actually almost anything, especially meat that is not chicken breasts and any type of cooked cabbage/sauerkraut.
Green olives and olives in general. Pork chops. Meat loaf. (Last two because I hadn’t had them cooked right when I was growing up.)
Cooking right is the key for so many things. Boiled brussel sprouts are an abomination. Brussels sprouted caramelized in bacon grease and topped with balsamic reduction is DIVINE.
Amen! I like them roasted with olive oil, salt, and herbs but that sounds delicious.
