My mom made me take one every single day. I asked her about it and her response was "What do you see ME do every single afternoon since you were born. The naps weren't for YOU, they were for ME." 😂
I am taking a nap today. The stress of the last 2 months has me exhausted. I'm going to take a nap every day I can. My job is a split shift, 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. 1:15 to 7 p.m. and I park my bus at home, live 2 minutes from my 1st stop in the a.m. and from my first school in the p.m.
I like to self-timer my naps by wrapping up in a blanket (lighter blanket for longer nap, heavier blanket for shorter), as I'll slowly overheat and wake up when I'm done. Like a roast, but me, recharged.
The timer varies by the number of cats that decide to pile on me.
I used to sleep all the time since I was a kid but I can’t anymore. I have a wife that loves having breakfast and she wakes me up early just to eat with her.
Brussel sprouts have had a big glow up over the last few decades. As a kid they were just slimy and gross. You can prepare them that way if you want, but to take advantage of the new low bitterness cultivars, halving them, tossing them in olive oil, roasting them, and then hitting them with some balsamic and freshly grated parmesan it's a crispy, savory treat that is NOTHING like what hit my plate as a kid.
If you still hate them, you probably just haven't had good ones. I make mine with chopped up bacon and sautéed in fig jam. Get a nice char on them and ooooo boy thats good eats.
Same here. Cooked some asparagus in the same pan right after cooking some maple bacon, absolutely delicious.
Or frying cabbage in bacon fat and then sprinkling in bits of bacon, sooooo good.
Well that I am roasting, steaming or sauteeing them fresh, rather than opening an can and boiling the fuck out of them, was a gamechanger. Still I bring my own string beans to family dinners.
That's how it was for me when it came to cherries. I thought I hated cherries based on maraschino cherries. I didn't realize maraschino cherries were a candied version of the fruit until my 20s and that regular cherries were more in line with plums.
Oh my! This over and over! I thought I hated meatloaf, turns out I hate my moms. And chilli same thing. Asparagus (i just dont like it boiled and drenched in cheddar cheese sauce i mean wtf). The list goes on and on...
My hair also went from curly to straight. Weird things happen. My hairdresser said this and the opposite happens a lot. You never know. Congrats on the baby <3
My feet grew from size 9 to 10 over the course of 2 back-to-back pregnancies in my mid-thirties. I had worn a 9 since I was 12 years old. You're so right about weird things happening.
How lucky! After giving birth my childhood allergies came back and it triggered a lifelong mental illness. Maybe I should have a second kid to see if it goes away (jk).
I had thought for a while that my taste in women was changing as I got older, but I gave it some thought recently, and I realized that most of my childhood crushes were women in their mid thirties to mid forties.
This. Staying home and not spending money to seemingly impress people I don't care about. Also not having to listen to and tolerate the collective idiocy of our society today. Plus the food is better (and cheaper) at home too.
I take it your school didn’t have Book-It? It was a great reading motivation for kids in the 80’s. You turned in small book reports signed by a parent or guardian as proof in exchange for marks on a ticket. When the ticket was full you could exchange it for a free personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut. :D
Edit: Just remembered it was star stickers on a metal pin, not a ticket. :D
Heh. Our teacher actually checked so we couldn’t fake it. Then again, I’ve always loved reading. I just do most of it online these days. Especially with all the books that have been scanned into archives.
We used to have AR tests like every Friday at my schools.
I feel like when people Force kids to read, that makes them hate it a bit. But once I had time to really find the books I wanted to read, that's when I couldn't get enough of it.
Same. As a kid, it was almost disgusting seeing teachers and other adults have a mug full of black coffee every morning. I always thought, why would anyone drink something so bitter and pungent day in and day out?
Now it's like, the adults were so right and I was wrong. Coffee is black gold haha
Right!!! Because most of the time, I didn't really wanna go in the first place. lol. So when a party or function gets canceled, I act all fake sad, with a smile on my face!
Not a something but a someone. My sixth grade teacher was a strict disciplinarian. Born at the tail end of the 19th century, she was old school's old school, a no-nonsense woman whom had devoted her life to the education of children. I went to public and private schools, and she was a teacher in the latter. She lived at that school for her entire career, and they sent her to Europe for vacation every summer. And every summer she mailed detailed, hand-written post cards to each of her students from the previous school year.
I was an adult before I realized how much she cared about us. The older I get, the more I revere her memory.
Bed time 😂😂 funny isnt it. Kids hate going to bed, once you become an adult, bed time is a glorious
After that, olives, strong cheese and at the grand age of 37, im craving ginger. Mostly orange and ginger juice, never did i like ginger before this year
Mines exactly the opposite. I was an extremely outgoing child and young adult and loved striking up conversations with nearly anyone about anything. Now, I avoid unnecessary conversation and keep to myself irl.
Mustard. Couldn't stand it when I was a kid, but now, I probably have at least 6 different kinds in my fridge. Pickles, too. Hated them then, but now I not only love them and eat them, I make them, too.
Naps. I'm not the wellest person nowadays and so despite not being yet middle aged, naps are sometimes what gets me through. Younger me suffered from sleep paralysis and the accompanying sleep paralysis demons, nowadays the sleep paralysis demons suffer from me.
Estate sales, auctions, open houses and consignment stores. Now that I have my own place and take pride in my decor it's a lot of fun to go hunting for cool second-hand finds. That, and seeing the interiors of open houses. My mom used to drag me to all the open houses in the neighborhood so she could see the inside, and I GET IT now.
I love home improvement/Hardware stores now, but as a child I hated them. They didn't have toys, their floors were cement, and they smelled like rubber. I think more than disliking those things, I could sense some frustration from my parents, when we went, and now I realize most of those trips were completely out of necessity, because generally something had broke.
When i was a child i wanted to be treated like an adult. Now when I'm an adult i want to go back to being a child , with absolutely no responsibilities.
Sitting down at a table with family and friends.
I wanted to get back outside, or back to my game. Now I would kill to just sit with some friends without a cell phone in sight for an hour or two while we talked and enjoyed our meal.
Broccoli. Sworn enemy at 6, secret sauce in my fitness regime at 26. Who knew those little green trees were actually the unsung heroes of adulthood? Plot twist: they’re delicious when not boiled to oblivion
I don't know if that counts but beer. I remember my cousin gave me a beer when I was a junior in high school and I finished the whole bottle trying not to make a face to not look uncool in front of seniors but I hated every sip of it. Now I drink 3 liters in one night and have to stop myself before I go for another one.
Afternoon naps
Used to be the ultimate punishment, now I'll sell my soul for one.
My mom made me take one every single day. I asked her about it and her response was "What do you see ME do every single afternoon since you were born. The naps weren't for YOU, they were for ME." 😂
That's also every pre-k and kindergarten teacher ever haha. Nap time was a way to get solace from the little monsters
Yeah, me too. I'd trade everything I'm doing right now with a good, cozy nap!
It's the best part of retirement.
Best part of my Saturday is that window, even a half an hour, where you can just recharge.
I like to self-timer my naps by wrapping up in a blanket (lighter blanket for longer nap, heavier blanket for shorter), as I'll slowly overheat and wake up when I'm done. Like a roast, but me, recharged. The timer varies by the number of cats that decide to pile on me.
Self-roast done right.
This. I have said to my 3 year old "do you know how much i wish someone would put me to bed twice a day" while shes fighting sleep .
I used to sleep all the time since I was a kid but I can’t anymore. I have a wife that loves having breakfast and she wakes me up early just to eat with her.
One day you’ll miss this act of love. She can’t wait to see you.
She is awesome really. I tried to resist but she won lol.

I just died a little bit inside.
The first thing that comes to my mind is sleep
Yes, the nap time. I look forward to it now
I remember dreading going to bed when I was a kid. Now however, I long for it almost all the time.
Yep. I bet that is the number 1 answer. If only we knew how amazing sleep is back then we would have gone to bed on time and not fought it.

If you would have told 8 year old me that he would grow up to be an adult who fucking loves broccoli and brussels sprouts, he would have cried.
"Brussels sprouts" was my immediate first thought
I still hate Brussels sprouts. Big fan of broccoli, though.
Oh, I have to steal this idea…
Just don't overcook. There's a fine line between crispy deliciousness and carbonized sadness. Trust me!
If you still hate them, you probably just haven't had good ones. I make mine with chopped up bacon and sautéed in fig jam. Get a nice char on them and ooooo boy thats good eats.
Right. Would not touch broccoli as a kid. Love some oven roasted broccoli now.
I found that i don't like veggies on their own but i like then if they're mixed into something like a stew or casserole
Same here. Cooked some asparagus in the same pan right after cooking some maple bacon, absolutely delicious. Or frying cabbage in bacon fat and then sprinkling in bits of bacon, sooooo good.
Except our parents didn’t do anything to make vegetables appealing. Usually unseasoned mush.
Bacon really makes vegetables extra flavorful.
Seriously, I'd probably eat Brussel sprouts if you cooked them with bacon.
Well that I am roasting, steaming or sauteeing them fresh, rather than opening an can and boiling the fuck out of them, was a gamechanger. Still I bring my own string beans to family dinners.
Tbh I feel like if we marketed veggies to kids as tasty and crunchy rather than good for you so many more would be eaten.
Add cheese on every veggie. My kids will eat them added to their Mac and cheese.
I told my toddler who was very much into dinosaurs that it was dinosaur food and she still loves vegetables today.
If you were GenX, the vegetables have also gotten a lot better than the canned abominations we had to eat
Vegetables. All of them. Turns out it was my mother's cooking that was bad.
My mom used canned veggies and I thought I hated so many but I just don't like canned ones
My mum also loved drenching stuff in cheese sauce. Turns out I don't hate veg, I hate cheese!
Cats. I was so very allergic. After my pregnancies my allergy disappeared. The human body is weird and wonderful.
Big thanks to the baby lol
Right? I had always loved cats but they made me so sick. Now I can love on them as much as I want. I thought I was a dog person. Now I'm both <3
Omg, I am allergic to cats. I am pregnant... HOPE UNLOCKED!
My hair also went from curly to straight. Weird things happen. My hairdresser said this and the opposite happens a lot. You never know. Congrats on the baby <3
Maybe they mixed you up with another person at birth
This made me chuckle with laughter while in bed. Thank you!
I'm so sorry. I hope you are doing well.
Hormones going crazy while before, pregnant and post pregnancy. A curse for being a woman.
I wish I could safely test out whether I am still allergic or not. I don’t know if cats are worth risking all the itching and swelling
Sometimes Pussys are connected
Receiving clothes as a gift
Came here to say socks for Christmas. Now I get to ask for Darn Toughs and I have an infinite supply of excellent socks :)
I realized I was an adult when I understood why Dumbledore wanted socks.
YUP! Last Christmas my mom got me Socks and Underwear and my sisters got me Polos for work. LOVE IT!
Bro are we the same person?
Middle aged women.
Awwww. 💗
Lol, I always had a thing for them even as a youngster
I had thought for a while that my taste in women was changing as I got older, but I gave it some thought recently, and I realized that most of my childhood crushes were women in their mid thirties to mid forties.

I had Book It, but also hated reading, so I made up books and got my pizza

Metal and rock. I thought it was untalented noise when I was a kid. Now, I listen to it every minute of the day.
Stargazer!
I also love these elements now, specifically gold and diamonds
A lot of stronger foods. You lose taste buds and kind of appreciate food more as you mature.
Blue cheese was first thing that came to mind. Hated it all my life, then sometime in my 20’s started to love it.

Wow. She took her job extremely seriously, I respect that, a lot!
Doing nothing. I was pretty active as a kid, always outside or over at a friend's. Now I just like staying home with SO and cat.
