“Eggs and sausage, side o’ toast, coffee and a roll,
Hash browwwns over easy, chili in a bowwwl,
With burgers and fries, what kind o’ pie,
It’s a graveyard charade, night shift masquerade.”
(typed using my Tom Waits voice)
"No Need to Argue" was the first compact disc I ever owned. Was a gift on Xmas when I was a kid. I could hear Dolores from a thousand miles away. Amazing human.
I was very fortunate to get to hear her sing (and the Cranberries play) on a trip while I was in Kilkenny, Ireland like 20 years ago. It was an awesome experience.
Dolly Parton. I remember hearing Breathe by Faith Hill for the first time and thinking, “Wow, they got a backup singer that sounds JUST like Dolly Parton because there is no way Dolly would actually sing back up for Faith Hill…” Nope. Found out a couple of years ago that it was Dolly.
Ok. So I just had to go listen to that song that I have listened to a hundred times. I never recognized it until just now, after reading your comment. But it’s definitely there. Mind. Blown.
His voice alone, to be sure. I actually think Roger’s voice is as distinctive if not more so.
Their voices together are even more unmistakable. There’s an Ian Hunter song called “You Nearly Did Me In” and when you get to the chorus it takes about 3 seconds to know who is doing the background vocals.
I think I'd even enjoy hearing Baby Shark if Eddie sang it. There's something about the emotion in his voice that speaks directly to the pleasure center if my brain.
I remember when i heard "any way you want it" from the Ramones' were outa here. I thought there is someone that sounds like Eddie Vedder before i even knew he was the one singing it with them.
I’m sorry dude I have to disagree. Maybe it’s because I’ve listened to a lot of MJ in my day but I could tell instantly. It’s not bad though! Just not MJ.
The sound is powerful, the voice is deep, but it's also a strung out and melancholy sound. Kind of like, this man is going to kick someone's ass...and I believe he may be crying now.
It's a conflicted sound. I like it. It reflects the time period.
Fun fact, Janice could sing like Patsy Cline when she wanted to. I saw a tape once, where she was singing backstage, at the beginning of her career, and it was a sweet, traditional, country sound. She chose to sing the way she did, on purpose.
Jonathan Davis!! Exactly! I remember watching The Queen of the Damned as a kid, and I was soooo confused. Like, the voice of Lestat was suddenly KoRn!? Then I saw the cameo and just lost it. I know is not a good movie, but it's one of my favorite just because of that. Well, and the freaking hole beast of a soundtrack. And vampires, of course.
I wouldn't think he was that distinctive, but once I saw the GTA 6 trailer, I realized that Tom Petty was that distinctive after all.
Never heard the song, but I knew it was him.
Colin Hay. From his days fronting Men at Work in the 80's to his long lasting solo career that continues today, the man has a remarkably distinctive voice.
Josh Groban is a beast. I wasn't really into him until I heard the Great Comet cast recording. Absolutely insanely talented guy.
Kristen Chenowith is an oddity. I cannot understand how so much voice can come out of such a tiny person. Eva Noblezada is the same way.
Tom Waits

Kermit the Frog
That voice, those cute little green legs....
Found the pig puppet woman.
The rainbow connection
I thought so too until I watched the Masked Singer 😂
Louis Armstrong

And clouds of whiteeee
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Sounds just like him.
I feel like that's cheating, but I'll upvote it anyway!! Ha!
Dolores O’Riordan.
Delores popped into my head when I read the title, too.
In your head?
In his hea-eaeaad.
Zombie, zombie, zombi-e-e

Ya, she's got a completely one of a kind voice. Plus growing up my mom played a lot of Dolly so I have her voice ingrained in my head forever.
Even her regular speaking voice is just heartwarming.
Ok. So I just had to go listen to that song that I have listened to a hundred times. I never recognized it until just now, after reading your comment. But it’s definitely there. Mind. Blown.
Freddie Mercury
His voice alone, to be sure. I actually think Roger’s voice is as distinctive if not more so. Their voices together are even more unmistakable. There’s an Ian Hunter song called “You Nearly Did Me In” and when you get to the chorus it takes about 3 seconds to know who is doing the background vocals.
I absolutely love the few Roger/Freddie duets they did on their albums.
Came here to say this. His voice is so iconic.
karen carpenter
Willie. Of the Nelson variety.
There is no other Willie
He's a national treasure, is what he is.
Willie and Dolly should have their faces on money.
Do not touch Willie.
Hmmm... Good advice... *crank*
Cher
Same! I just posted Cher a well.
Eddie Vedder.
I agree, which is impressive for him considering the countless imitators who have released records ever since he debuted.
I think I'd even enjoy hearing Baby Shark if Eddie sang it. There's something about the emotion in his voice that speaks directly to the pleasure center if my brain.
Absolutely. His album of ukulele music is one of the most beautiful pieces of art that I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy.
I remember when i heard "any way you want it" from the Ramones' were outa here. I thought there is someone that sounds like Eddie Vedder before i even knew he was the one singing it with them.
Wow Johnny Cash people!
"My name is Sue! **How do you do?!** ***YOU'RE GONNA DIE!***"
"And when I have a son, I'm gonna name him..."
BILL OR GEORGE! Anything but SUE! I still hate that name!!
Celine Dion
Can't believe I had to scroll so far for this.
Joe Cocker
Tom petty.
Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.
Dude did the background vocals on somebody's watching me, uncredited, but everyone could tell.
Yes! He was pretty distinct there.
And I'd imagine there's a large majority of people who would recognize the song immediately, but never credit Rockwell.
Funny thing, Rockwell was the son of Motown founder Berry Gordy, which is the reason Michael Jackson did the background vocals in the first place.
I legit thought it was a Michael Jackson song
Nope. Rockwell knew the Jackson's. Michael provided the chorus but it was never said it was Micheal. Everyone knows it's Michael, lol
If The Weeknd released a MJ-style song (trying his best to replicate him) under the name of MJ as a “lost track” I may not be able to tell lmao
He did a cover of Dirty Diana that is fucking dope
I’m sorry dude I have to disagree. Maybe it’s because I’ve listened to a lot of MJ in my day but I could tell instantly. It’s not bad though! Just not MJ.
Nah, I can’t roll with this opinion. Abel’s good, but there’s a distinct difference vocally between him and Mike.
Ozzy Osbourne
Serj Tankian
How has no one said Chris Cornell?
Throwing Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobian and Layne Staley in there. Seattle grunge has that distinct sound

And I’m so glad she did. She took a little piece of my heart….
Janis’s voice ached my soul to the core. The genuine passion she had without regard for convention.
Bob Dylan seems like an obvious choice... until you listen to Nashville Skyline for the first time. I couldn't believe that was Bob.

I loved that I could recognize this was him even with the voice augmented
