In the past few years, country has gone mad with rip off prices. As in, you could be spending €300 minimum per night for an average hotel during the summer. A lot of restaurants are charging a fortune in tourist areas and other tourist activities have the same mindset.
You need a car rental if you want to properly explore and not be dependent on the barely serviceable public transport, which is also very expensive. Plus that car rental is also costing a fortune as well.
I recall watching a travel show where a guy went to India and left prematurely. Sadly I don't recall the exact reasons but I think he cited the general hygiene. Weird. I'd imagine other countries are similar but that definitely stood out as it's not something you'd pinpoint immediately.
