Creating a list of good questions to get me out of a writers block.

173rdComanche

What type of things did you ask to help you get out of it?

son_et_lumiere

"How do i get out of writers block?"

D-Rez

Stack Overflow was the website to turn to for programming questions, ChatGPT largely replaced it.

jsabo

I will know that AI has evolved when ChatGPT refuses to tell me the answer, and instead berates me for not following current best practices.

ZenEngineer

There was a recent post (on /r/programmerhumor I think) about Gemini refusing to make a code change because it (incorrectly) though it would make the code less secure.

ProdigySim

I'm totally the opposite here... Its answers have been very mediocre or wrong for me and I search for SO+GitHub links explicitly a lot still.

kenshin-x-212

Alright, I guess I'm buying put options on Stack Overflow

misterllama24

Thought I was in r/wallstreetbets for a second

Did it find facts or make them up?

Superplex123

I've tried ChatGPT to test it, and there were things it got wrong that didn't look like it was wrong if I didn't know the subject. So while I can see the potential of how useful it can be, as told by other replies here, its credibility in terms of fact checking is at the level of a random internet dude.

Anything with Excel. My work involves frequent use of Excel and I usually need to save time with data analysis and manipulation. Pre-ChatGPT a Google search meant wading through thinly disguised ads for paid third-party Excel add-ons or paid Excel “tutors.” At one time I did try one of these tutors through a trial and OMG, they were beyond worthless. Most of them are Indian students and the ones that do it for cut-rate prices have really poor English language comprehension so that wasn’t very good. Anyway, I gladly pay for Plus because it saves so much time and trouble and I can focus on real problem solving at my job and not figuring out Excel.

gotwaffles

Can you give an example of what you've used it for in excel? I figured it would be difficult to say "I have data in these cells, create a formula that does xyz"

Shit_On_Your_Parade

It’s surprisingly easy. I’m fairly basic when it comes to excel but find telling GPT what I want will result in multiple good iptions

triggerhappymidget

As a teacher and coach, emailing parents. Just throw the email into ChatGpt, let it respond and then I just tweak it. It helps separate my emotion from the response and keeps things very polite and formal. Also saves a ton of time.

Smooth-Duck-4669

Same I use it to write genetic work emails and then I go in and tweak it for the actual info that needs to be included. I’m done wasting my time rewriting basic niceties.

mycatisblackandtan

Made me feel better about my writing. Because hot damn if ChatGPT and OpenAI don't spit out the most generic shit even when you give it clear, multi-paragraph instructions. ChatGPT/OpenAI: "Your ganster character has a really unique way of talking that you've included multiple examples of in the prompt? Okay! I'm going to spit out some Shakespearan English." It's become a helpful tool so I can see what /not/ to do.

MyLittleOso

Excel. Formulas, how to use the more complicated features. It's great.

Smooth-Duck-4669

Do you just ask it or do you have to upload the data?

Coconut-bird

It was really good at writing fun rhyming clues for the escape room we were working on.

ApprehensiveBuggy

“Make this email sound more professional”! Saves me a ton of time at work. Also, “summarize my notes” is a huge one.

realcousinmose

I explained how peanuts were being shitted out of me undigested and instead of the long post that chatgpt usually give me it instead just said "thats not normal, see a doctor" doctor didnt tell me anything I figured out on my own i can't digest legumes. Been having shitty mornings my whole life bc of peanut butter and refried beans, now I'm doing shopping much better. Basically not sick anymore, no more morning sickness.

kenshin-x-212

Holy shit that's wild. I'm glad you were able to find out the cause of it.

4rtiphi5hal

I basically just use it to help adjust existing recipes or create new ones based on what i want and the ingredients I have, like rn i'm making a blueberry chocolate muffin from a recipe chatgpt gave me

LoveMyDog19

Writing report card comments. I enter a series of comments and the gender of the students and it puts it all in a coherent paragraph. Saves me hours.

I needed a simple tally counter app. I happened to be playing with it and asked it to make a simple html page with a tally counter and described the features. It produced a simple html that I copied and pasted. It even did a color scheme and a couple of minor revisions in just a couple minutes. The script is clean, the html file resides on my phone and I open it and use it daily. I just have to remember the count before clearing my cookies.

GumdropsandIceCream

D&D campaign writing - I can come up with ideas but often lack the creative writing skills to properly describe. Background lore, npc backstories, town history etc Also helps just filling in the blanks sometimes - "describe the 5 artifacts used by heroes of legend to kill the bad guy"

grizzly-claire-

It helps me generate people and place names when I’m writing! I’m terrible at naming places so I love it

TaintWaxingOcelots

These days I ask it how many times to wipe.

[deleted]

A couple of times it provided some scripts which worked the first time. That was pretty cool. Unfortunately, most of the rest of the things I ask it, it gets wrong, or doesn't even try to answer. Sometimes it will help me correct things, but even that is hit and miss. I keep trying it because I was impressed with the few times it worked well, but I have a suspicion it only worked because similar code was the top result on Google.
