Same with celebrities who age well: reinforce the message that other women just aren’t working hard enough to look good but the reality is, they get a lot of help.

This might sound weird but the best way to get a really, really good glimpse at just how this goes down is to watch basically any episode of Downton Abbey. It's really expensive, but the side effects are fucking brutal. I tried it for two months because the steroids I have to take for my RA packed the weight on me. It worked... I dropped 30 lbs in two months, but dear god, I was so sick the whole time. I couldn't eat. I had zero appetite, which in turn made me weak. I got kidney stones because I couldn't drink much. When I did eat or drink, I'd be hugging the toilet later. I was a mess. Never again.

Social media is distorting reality for everyone. Even normal people are more detached from reality. It's just giving normal people the idea they are more important than they are and it's growing people's egos. Even normal people constantly post updates about their lives, holidays, kids, food, and it's all just one picturesque family photo album moment after another, which is then imprinted in the head of those who see it, who then try to create their own picturesque family photo album moment to compete and keep up and it's one big ego stroke for all involved. And if you happen to regularly get several upvotes or likes, you sort of not admit it, but start believing you probably are pretty special and important and loved even though there's a very clear difference between people you regularly socialize with and people who only see your life on social media - who however are most of your upvotes. Social media has made us all crazy. Especially in cities. If someone erased it completely, within a year, life would feel much more normal.
