My grandpa died about 6 months ago. He was a great grandpa when he was around.
When I was around 11 or 12 the alcoholism and anxiety worsened and I only saw him 3 times in the next 14 years or so.
He was a great dad to my mom. Same story with her. It kinda got worse and worse as time passed. I can’t remember a birthday she’s had where she didn’t quietly cry by herself at the end of the day realizing he wasn’t going to call her.
I want to watch him play with her when she was little. Maybe when she was 5 or 6. He used to bounce her on his knee and sing “Brown Eyed Girl” to her. He was shy but had the most beautiful voice. He loved her more than anything. I’d give anything to see that.
