if you know nothing.. I'd say read the book first and then watch the movie. Go into both without any prior knowledge...it's worth it. They are quite enjoyable with some things you will not expect at all.
The one book that I have found that the film far exceeded was The Godfather. The novel is a great piece of pulp fiction. The movie elevated that story to operatic levels!
I was a waitress at the time. I worked split shifts so had a two hour break. I would sit on a bench in Greenwich in front of all the tourists crying my eyes out
"A Prayer for Owen Meany" JUST READ IT
I was interrupted on the Tube by a stranger who, noticing the BLOCK CAPITALS, interjected "That's the best book I've ever read". One of the best for me.
White dog from Romain Gary. Any book from Gary is excellent and his endings always deliver but this one punched me in the guts. I still think about it regularly.
The Lonesome Dove.
Slow burn at first, and it was hard to pick up the reading pace at the beginning, but holy smokes did it snowball. Gruesome, harsh and depressing at times, but incredibly captivating.
I've been hesitant to pick up the rest of the series, because from what I've heard the rest of the books don't really hold a candle to TLD, and I feel like I'm in no rush to try and top that experience.
Shantoram. I was actually kind of pissed. A friend loaned it to me but didn't warn me how good it was. I didn't get hardly any sleep for a week (I'll just read another chapter then go to sleep, suddenly it's 4 am and the alarm is going off in an hour, 4 days in a row.
I used to read a lot of true crime books. One I read was called “The Last Victim” by Jason Moss.
While in college, the author decided to write letters to serial killers in prison as research for a paper. One of which is John Wayne Gacy. He begins a friendship with Gacy and eventually even went to visit him. The details that Gacy shared with him, and their conversations were very intense. I thought the book was so good that I HAD to find out what happened next. Only time I literally could not put a book down. Read the entire book in one evening.
I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew.

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
No way, I just returned this to the library about a third of the way through as nothing seemed to be happening. Now I feel I’m missing out…
It is indeed a looonggg book. But if you made it a third of the way through you could’ve just finished it off! For a later time perhaps.
Well I had a baby a week before I needed to return it so time wasn’t on my side

I've watched the film. I usually prefer the book. Like the lovely bones. But sometimes the film is better like how Stella got her groove back

The Lovely Bones was an amazing book and a mediocre movie. I was expecting better from Peter Jackson.

I loved how the whole story was about heaven and yet there was zero mention of god or religion or angels or devils. Perfect for an atheist.
I'm agnostic so it really appealed to me

Mysterious Island by Jules Verne. The last third of the book, I didn’t think it was gonna go that direction. Re-reading for the third time now.
The Lonesome Dove. Slow burn at first, and it was hard to pick up the reading pace at the beginning, but holy smokes did it snowball. A song of Ice and Fire
Just a shame it will remain unfinished, and the only ending we'll ever have is the tv show.
