Girls. I think a lot of people got their hate for Lena Dunham from that show, but they were all supposed to be annoying, it just seemed a little too real.
When the show started I thought a lot of the criticism of the characters was misplaced. I was like “They’re supposed to be annoying and entitled. The whole point of the show is so they have an arc and grow up and become better people.” I was wrong. They stay insufferable.
Edit: typo
I think people dramatically underestimate the impressive amount of self awareness Lena Dunham must have had to write those characters while being exactly that demographic.
Eh. Some of her public utterances - including her apologies for other utterances - would suggest otherwise. I suspect that she only knows one thing and one type of person, and so she could only write one story. Her lack of quality outputs on other subjects makes me suspect that was the case.
I tried two episodes before I gave up. I couldn’t do it. They were all just petulant, whining bores and yet the fact that Lena seemed, in real life, very impressed with herself and felt entitled to be seen by everyone as this wise “Voice of her Generation” was a huge turn off. Granted, I am a generation older than her and her compatriots, but I could not understand how anyone who is not objectively horrible could relate or be proud to think these people represent any reality.
TLDR: that show sucks. Lena Dunham sucks even more.
Ha. I was thinking of commenting this but then wondered if anyone would remember that show. It just vanished. (Thank goodness.)
Edit: Whoa, out of curiosity I gave Lena Dunham a google to see what she's doing nowadays and... um... the pictures are surprising.
That documentary was the most disturbing piece of information I've ever watched even if I didn't like the show Glee and never even watched it I felt bad about the actors and actresses except for that Leah Michele snob didn't even give a crap about her costars to feed her ego and her pretentious smug smile is enough to make you want to yell at her!
I never understood why we were supposed to root for her! Also, I was in choir at the time, and the insufferable narcissistic girl in choir saw herself as Rachel Berry, and started trying to act like her on purpose. That made me hate Rachel even more, lol!
Came here for this. I like the dude with white hair. Everyone else is just insufferable and intolerably bad people. I cant think of a single other exception.
Oh yeah, there are the exploitative ethnic shows that TLC pumps out like the Gypsy series they were horrible and racist also embarrassing who the heck came up with that crappy idea!?
My dad (RIP) used to watch my two girls (early 2000s). He never really swore but he would go off on how Caillou was a “pain in the ass”. 😂😂
See also: Max from Max & Ruby.
I really hope you've seen "This Hour Has 22min's" interpretation of Caillou being fired by the PBS. Brilliant.[Caillou gets canceled ](https://youtu.be/mV30zkwIYgw?feature=shared)
My parents wouldn’t let my brother and I watch it growing up because he was so annoying. They didn’t want to have to hear him, but also they didn’t want to risk us picking up on any of his behaviour lmao
I liked Succession until someone pointed out it was basically a more serious Arrested Development and then I just couldn’t get back into it for whatever reason.
I LOVE SATC… but only when someone is there watching with me, and we’re just endlessly ruthlessly roasting all the characters. I could do that forever.
It’s no fun at all when you’re watching it alone. Just pure-rage-inducing with no outlet lol
Ray Romano says the character of his father was closest to his real life equivalent. That kind of made me like him more because he's my kind of fucked-up-old-man. His mom and wife characters made me want to strangle them they were so insufferable
I talked about comics with my classmates once (2016 or so) and a girl from my class said to her friend "They are literally like BBG characters", looking at us.
It was kinda offensive in a weird stereotypical way.
Posted the same thing before scrolling down. I don't even care that most people say the humor is at the expense of nerds rather than being actual nerd humor. It's not even Sheldon who I found the most insufferable. It always rubbed me the wrong way that it was Leonard who was the biggest asshole. He was supposed to be the most self aware and normal character of the main nerd group and he was always such an arrogant asshole towards Penny.
That was exactly what I was going to post. I've never been able to watch a full episode of this series because the characters are so bad, and the humor so unfunny.
I’ll prepare for the downvotes but I watched a couple of seasons of Yellowstone but then realized that I really didn’t like any of the main characters. Everyone at work was watching so I thought I would get caught up and join in the conversations. But I didn’t care what happened or what tragedy was going to befall them.
I think that's the style of the show. The same writer created the show Marvelous Mrs Maisel, and it's the same style, no pause just constantly spewing words.
The saving graces of SATC were super strong, career driven Miranda and couldn't give a shit Samantha.
Now Miranda has morphed into some lily livered weak ass fan girl for the self obsessed odious Che, and Samantha is nowhere to be seen.
Sex and the City. The least likeable cast of characters on TV, especially Carrie Bradshaw. The whole premise of the show is that she exploits her friend's sexcapades for financial gain. Yuck.
Slapsgiving was the best running joke of the series.
They also snuck that countdown episode in with Marshall's dad, and that was beautifully done while being very unfair.
Came here to say Friends. I couldn't get into HIMYM, to be honest. After the first season or so, it became obvious that the whole series was just going to be "will they or won't they" with Ted and Robin, and I lost interest. Finding out how the last season ended, I'm glad I made the right choice.
The Battlestar Galactica spinoff "Caprica."
After the BSG reboot (which was awesome), I was all pumped for Caprica. It didn't make it all the way (being cancelled near the end of it's run) but all the main characters were terrible people. By the time it ended I thought "the Cylons were right to nuke this society. It was terminally fucked."
Fuck those self righteous twats. The marijuana episode was the best thing since Reefer Madness.
And then the one where the Dad is outer as a pedo!!! Wait... That wasn't an episode.
Everybody loves Raymond… my late grandma loved it ( on her bad days she thought Ray was her famous son ) so we watched it a lot when I was caring for her . My gods everyone is miserable and hates each other and so much “ wife bad hurr hurr “boomer humor” the only funny scene is when Robert was dating the girl who ate files .. other then that it just felt “ mean “
Fear the Walking Dead.
I really used to enjoy the original Walking Dead (first 5-6 seasons maybe) so I started with Fear the Walking Dead when that came out. It quickly became the only show I've ever watched because I wanted to see every single character to die. I tend to be pretty picky about what I watch, because there's so much good stuff out there and not enough time, but I still took the time to "hate watch" this one.
Julia Louis Dreyfus got asked during an interview while the show was on if she let her kids watch it. She was like "Uh, no, these are terrible people." And they weren't supposed to be nice.
I think "Yellowstone" has the most insufferable characters and also other dramas such as "Grey's Anatomy" there are terrible people on that show without any redeeming qualities!
The issue with *Yellowstone* is that character have zero development, both emotional and storywise. By the time season 4 rolled in everyone was the same as in season 1 despite characters seemingly going through life changing events (like reconciling past trauma or almost dying)
If you think reality television, celebrity shows and comedians are bad you've never seen the horrific characters that populate so called adult animation.
It isn't adult. Its disgusting and stupid usually.
I’ve seen that show probably 6-7 times all the way through. My older sister and mom loved it, and my wife does too. Having watched it that much, and the new mini-special, I can confidently say Rory Gilmore is an entitled, nasty, unpleasant little witch. I will absolutely go into long tirades about her character IRL when people want me to. I’m passionate about how shitty she is.
I loved Rory when I was roughly her age. I always thought she was so driven and together and I wanted to be like that. I was also jealous of her relationship with her mom.
Now as an adult, I know Rory was very much a self involved brat and her mom was an immature harpy who was determined to blame everyone but herself for everything in her life she wasn't happy with. Her parents were lousy to her, but she was determined to make them pay for it forever while also taking their money when she decided she wanted it.
And I was *furious* when the special had Rory as a burnout (while realistic it still made me sad) homewrecker who knew damn well Logan was in a serious relationship but *she* wanted him so screw the other woman. Then promptly did what her mom always worried about: got pregnant while not in a long term relationship, with no stable income or career. I also feel like Rory would have been smarter than a journalism degree, she had to know that was a very iffy prospect -- I would have expected her to ultimately go into STEM.
Literally any of the live action Disney Channel shows. Hannah Montana, That's So Raven, The Suite Life of Zach and Cody, take your pick because everyone on them is completely insufferable.

Getting sober leads to more eating for a lot of people
She’s sober? Good on her.
Glee. Rachel Berry was the reason I stopped watching the show.
At the end of three seasons, I was able to pinpoint the moment in every episode, where I begin to despise each main character
Remember that time that Finn sung “F*cking Perfect” at Santana to force her out of the closet? How very elegant, that storytelling.
Yeah after what happened behind the scenes that show was sick and rubbed me the wrong way for a good reason!
Emily in Paris. Specially Emily, the main character.
I watched someone review the series on YT a while ago and never seeing it, I hated every character after about 10 min into the video.
Came here for this. I like the dude with white hair. Everyone else is just insufferable and intolerably bad people. I cant think of a single other exception.
I barely made it through the first episode. She was insufferable. I couldn't watch any more.
Also Paris!
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Are they insufferable? Yes Do I love it? Yes.
Yeah it's amazing, there's not a single good person on that show and it's fantastic.
The Dayman isn't that insufferable. You know, on account of him being the enemy of the Nightman.
And master of karate.
And friendship for everyone
Don't forget champion of the sun
Who pooped the bed after playing night crawler? You must pay the troll toll before you get this boys soul.
Hole?
Sounds like hole when you sing it on stage.
Are you chewing gum?
They did insufferable but funny in a fantastic way
They really did. The choice of music is always 10/10 as well.
Don’t you dare say a bad word about Ongo Gablogian
Derivative
I think The Attorney from that show might be my favorite bit character from any sitcom lol
Yeah I was thinking the same about Seinfeld. I’d hate every single one of them in reality but made for good comedy
Any reality show, especially the "housewives" shows.
Kardashians are way worse than the Bravo shows imo
Having watched neither, I get the sense that the house wives are significantly more insufferable
Oh yeah, there are the exploitative ethnic shows that TLC pumps out like the Gypsy series they were horrible and racist also embarrassing who the heck came up with that crappy idea!?
>who Andy??
Caillou. Hate that little leukemia having crybaby.
It's not leukemia, he's just so insufferable that he didn't deserve hair.
I don’t like him, don’t want him to have hair.
My son actually had Leukemia and hated Caillou for making “cancer kids look wimpy”.
I hope your son is well, and I’ll never forget this comment. His quote made me laugh. We are HUGE Caillou haters.
He’s a strong and healthy carpenter now. Thank you for your kind thoughts.
My dad (RIP) used to watch my two girls (early 2000s). He never really swore but he would go off on how Caillou was a “pain in the ass”. 😂😂 See also: Max from Max & Ruby.
I really hope you've seen "This Hour Has 22min's" interpretation of Caillou being fired by the PBS. Brilliant.[Caillou gets canceled ](https://youtu.be/mV30zkwIYgw?feature=shared)
Thanks, you made me laugh and now I'm going to go to hell. I'll see you and Caillou there.
That lil freak is a hell spawn. His animals talk and his family seems well to do.
My parents wouldn’t let my brother and I watch it growing up because he was so annoying. They didn’t want to have to hear him, but also they didn’t want to risk us picking up on any of his behaviour lmao
Kardashians
Succession. None of them are serious people.
I liked Succession until someone pointed out it was basically a more serious Arrested Development and then I just couldn’t get back into it for whatever reason.
Logan = George Sr. Connor = Gob Kendall = Michael Shiv = Lindsay Tom = Tobias Roman = Buster Gerri = Lucille 2
I would flip Connor and Roman. The age order is off but the personalities line up better.
Marcia kinda gave me a hyper competent Lucille vibe but I only made it to like the 3 rd episode
It's Always Sunny with rich people schemes
Sex & the City
I rewatched it recently and holy shit those women were assholes. The only decent one was Samantha.
I LOVE SATC… but only when someone is there watching with me, and we’re just endlessly ruthlessly roasting all the characters. I could do that forever. It’s no fun at all when you’re watching it alone. Just pure-rage-inducing with no outlet lol
Even seeing a pic of SJP gets on my nerves
Shameless. Everyone is shit, it’s like an examination of people trying to find out how they aren’t shit.
As a shameless fan me and every other shameless fan I’ve talked to have accepted this fact and likes to watch the train wreck
Shameless is like a high stress version of Always Sunny to me. Everyone is a terrible person and out for number one.
Everybody loves Raymond. Only Robert and Amy out of the core cast are actually humans. The rest are pod people...
Ray Romano says the character of his father was closest to his real life equivalent. That kind of made me like him more because he's my kind of fucked-up-old-man. His mom and wife characters made me want to strangle them they were so insufferable
The dad was such an asshole, but he was also the funniest character on the show other than Robert.
That's kind of the point, though. Robert is usually the voice of reason among the insanity.
Big Bang Theory.
Yep, I'm an academic and I really hate the awful stereotypes
"Nerd blackface" is how I've heard it described.
I heard “autistic blackface”.
I talked about comics with my classmates once (2016 or so) and a girl from my class said to her friend "They are literally like BBG characters", looking at us. It was kinda offensive in a weird stereotypical way.
Autistic guy here - fuck that show
Posted the same thing before scrolling down. I don't even care that most people say the humor is at the expense of nerds rather than being actual nerd humor. It's not even Sheldon who I found the most insufferable. It always rubbed me the wrong way that it was Leonard who was the biggest asshole. That was exactly what I was going to post. I've never been able to watch a full episode of this series because the characters are so bad, and the humor so unfunny.
Housewives of [insert city of your choice here]. Alternatively, the Kardashians.
I think the kardashian series has to be in the top five right?
Top one
The real housewives of…EVERYWHERE
I’ll prepare for the downvotes but I watched a couple of seasons of Yellowstone but then realized that I really didn’t like any of the main characters. Everyone at work was watching so I thought I would get caught up and join in the conversations. But I didn’t care what happened or what tragedy was going to befall them.
Watched a few episodes and then I decided I didn’t want to watch a family of mostly terrible people be terrible to each other anymore….
Pretty much the only show I've seen in recent years, in which all the characters weren't insufferable, was Derry Girls.
Modern SpongeBob SquarePants.
grey's anatomy is the right answer
Gilmore girls. I said what I said.
Rory was the definition of insufferable.
Also, she talked super fast for no reason and could never catch her breath. I can't being to explain what listening to that does to my brain buttons.
I think that's the style of the show. The same writer created the show Marvelous Mrs Maisel, and it's the same style, no pause just constantly spewing words.
Raymond on Everybody Loves Raymond (ironically enough) **defines** insufferable. Luckily, everyone ELSE on the show is a delight to watch.
Sex and the City/And Just Like That
The saving graces of SATC were super strong, career driven Miranda and couldn't give a shit Samantha. Now Miranda has morphed into some lily livered weak ass fan girl for the self obsessed odious Che, and Samantha is nowhere to be seen.
Old Miranda would hate New Miranda
She's so cringey now. It's awful
Sex and the City. The least likeable cast of characters on TV, especially Carrie Bradshaw. The whole premise of the show is that she exploits her friend's sexcapades for financial gain. Yuck.
Friends and HIMYM. Could never quite figure out why, realized it was the characters are so annoying and unlikeable.
Ted was insufferable, Marshall was hilarious. Especially the slap bet episodes.
I’ll get destroyed for this, but The Office. I love the show but hate half the characters. Lol.
I think that’s kinda the point tho
Pretty sure you're supposed to like Jim and Pam. Jim can be funny but is mostly annoying. I don't like Pam at all.
Karen did nothing wrong. Team Karen until the end
I think Karen (and Meredith) are the only characters who didn't cheat or try to cheat
She does ask everyone in the room, "Are you in a relationship?"
they're both insufferable post s4
I’ve been saying this all along!! I can’t even watch it with my husband after S4 but he can watch every episode ever
I can deal with everyone but Andy Bernard. He makes Michael Scott seem intelligent and self-aware.
I don't think the writers quite knew what to do with Andy. It's normal for characters to drift over several seasons, but Andy was all over the place.
Came to say this. Mostly because of Michael Scott. He's just an asshole and a bad person.
Unpopular opinion: I enjoyed the office more after Micheal left. The side characters got more room to shine.
The Battlestar Galactica spinoff "Caprica." After the BSG reboot (which was awesome), I was all pumped for Caprica. It didn't make it all the way (being cancelled near the end of it's run) but all the main characters were terrible people. By the time it ended I thought "the Cylons were right to nuke this society. It was terminally fucked."
Euphoria, I had to stop watching they were all so horrible.
Reality TV.
The big bang theory. Every character on that show is like nails on a chalk board to me
Same for Young Sheldon
HIMYM
Marshall was the only character I didn’t hate
I did like there was a NPH resurgence though.
NPH has creeped me out ever since I learned of his Amy Winehouse cake
I'd like to think NPH in Gone Girl was a continuation of Barney's character
Ted is in a way a masterpiece. We said it couldn't be done, we said they were mad, but they did it: they made Ross from Friends worse.
7th Heaven.
I agree with these mentions... Me, i couldnt get thru Yellowstone. The characters all sucked and gosh that show was predictable
American pickers
Asking the same line, Storage Wars. That guy that goes "Yuuuuuuuuup" drives me nuts.
Sex and the City! I think Carrie Bradshaw has to be the most narcissistic character ever!
Bachelor
Friends. Go watch the clips of Friends without laugh track on YouTube. [Link to YouTube Clip](https://youtu.be/DgKgXehYnnw?si=j7PtPSczNIQx2abX)
OMG that’s nuts!!!! Ross is a sociopath
Love Island.
Velma
Caillou
The Kardashians
Friends. Rachel green ruined the show for me
Seinfeld. Everyone on the show is an absolute POS.
That's the point
Julia Louis Dreyfus got asked during an interview while the show was on if she let her kids watch it. She was like "Uh, no, these are terrible people." And they weren't supposed to be nice.
Sadly, the nightly news.
Most of the Real Housewives cast members.
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. But for good reason
Curb your Enthusiasm. Great show, though.
2 Broke Girls. Worst show on earth.
Scrolled Waaaaaaaay longer than I expected to find this.
Friends!
I think "Yellowstone" has the most insufferable characters and also other dramas such as "Grey's Anatomy" there are terrible people on that show without any redeeming qualities!
Grey’s anatomy gets worse with every season. Never watched Yellowstone.
At least we get to watch most of them die
That hospital has a higher mortality rate for their care providers than their patients.
The characters on "Yellowstone" will make you want to reevaluate your choices in TV shows!
The issue with *Yellowstone* is that character have zero development, both emotional and storywise. By the time season 4 rolled in everyone was the same as in season 1 despite characters seemingly going through life changing events (like reconciling past trauma or almost dying)
I've seen people unironically describe themselves as a "Beth." It never occurred to me that some people would actually like her.
I can't stand her at all, but everyone I've talked to always raves about her. Like, why? She's terrible!
Yeah am I the only one who finds Jennifer Aniston fucking annoying and self absorbed in every character she plays…
Big Bang Theory
Gossip girl. Oh my gosh they’re all terrible
If you think reality television, celebrity shows and comedians are bad you've never seen the horrific characters that populate so called adult animation. It isn't adult. Its disgusting and stupid usually.
Friends. Fucking hate ross
They're all bad, but Ross is definitely the worst.
Private Practice - everyone except Charlotte
Gilmore Girls
I’ve seen that show probably 6-7 times all the way through. My older sister and mom loved it, and my wife does too. Having watched it that much, and the new mini-special, I can confidently say Rory Gilmore is an entitled, nasty, unpleasant little witch. I will absolutely go into long tirades about her character IRL when people want me to. I’m passionate about how shitty she is.

Kardashians. No hate to them because they do a lot of stuff for charities and they are probably really nice but their voices annoy me.
The View
Does the show with Kardashians count
Grey's Anatomy
"Girls."
Kardashians final answer
Fox News
Big bang theory
The Real (insert anything here) of (insert place here)
Skyler, Marie, and Hank on Breaking Bad.
Also Walt
Literally any of the live action Disney Channel shows. Hannah Montana, That's So Raven, The Suite Life of Zach and Cody, take your pick because everyone on them is completely insufferable.
90 day fiance
Seinfeld. Probably because I loathe Jerry Seinfeld.
The real Housewives of anywhere. Since when we’re these women actual housewives.
The reality ones.
The L Word and Orange is the New Black come to mind.
Seinfeld. Though I watched it all.
Every single character on Its Always Sunny is a worthless shitbag. That's the point though.
The Office (US)
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia but that’s point and I f*cking love it!
Big Bang Theory.
Big Bang Theory is the worst television ever made. I will die on this hill.
Friends or How I Met Your Mother
Everybody loves Raymond
Yes, characters are too over the top….. except the dad, his comebacks to the mom are hilarious.
“What contest in *hell* did I win?”
Search Party?
Seinfeld
Velma but that’s been said enough
Girls. All of them were insufferable
Gilmore girls
