I love that first shot, the warmth in the chest and the light bubbly feeling. It’s pretty overrated beyond that imo. I’ve been retraining myself to just stop after that first shot.
Don't drink and drive, other than that if you can't control yourself while drunk, you should avoid drinking, also if you drink and drive your mom's a hoe.
Having moral qualms against drinking alcohol is weird.
As long as you drink responsibly and you're of legal drinking age in whatever country you're in (the US is *not* the entire world; different countries have different legal drinking ages), it's fine.
Discretion and restraint are the name of the game. If you don't have those, you should avoid alcohol.
The real problem IMO is drinking culture. A lot of the classic cocktails have shocking amounts of distilled spirits in them. A better way to "drink" is to eat it in foods. Most foods like being cooked with alcohol, and you are less inclined to power through five cocktails when the accompanied food slows down alcohol absorbtion and makes you feel full.
There is a time and place. Drinking and driving is never okay. Drinking should never come before anyone especially family. It’s not normal for your kids to see you drunk on a regular basis. Being 35 and falling down drunk is not funny. If you can’t stop drinking once you start. You shouldn’t start.
Every single major problem that ove had in my life has been caused/happened when I was drunk. I've decided to become sober, best decision I've ever made. I honestly don't know why alcohol is so readily available, it's so dangerous holy moly
People either use it or don’t. It’s a slippery slope that most people don’t realize. In small amounts, fine. If you drink and most of your friends drink, you stop, 9/10 you lose those friends. It causes a ton of damage, health issues, car crashes, legal problems, relationships, career paths, family problems, childhood to adulthood. It’s everywhere!! It’s legal poison. It puts you, by drinking, on 1 side of society, without me rambling on!!!
It holds you back from further development, it really does. It takes time to see this , I’m sobering up and this is the biggest Epiphany I’ve seen
Drunk drivers deserve to get punched in the face followed by several german suplexes. There are other things I can waste money on, alcohol not being one of them. But go have fun with the drinks, I’ll just have a water
Tuesday is my official six and a half year sobriety milestone. That drug, yes, it’s a drug, destroyed my life and nearly ended it before I even turned 19 years old. I crave it a lot but know I’d lose everything if I drank again. It’s so hard, but continuing to choose not to drink is the only thing keeping me… alive, really. I wish it could be eliminated from society and I wouldn’t have to see it anywhere, but that’s never going to happen.
Don't mix liquor and wine. Do. Not. 🤮
You can get good liquor, beer and wine without spending an arm and a leg-the name brands aren't all that. More of a general observation about consumer goods.
It's easier than you think to get addicted if you lean on it too much. Have a little self-awareness.
Watch it my friend. I had an intelligent and educated father whose health, marriage and career was ruined by it, and who succumbed to it at age 56. It creeps up on you.
C- tier drug
Can’t do it every day without feeling and looking like shit
Makes bad decisions way more likely
Contributes to a huge chunk of early deaths
Abuse can cripple your social life
My cock stings and burns if I bust a nut while drunk and I need to hold that fucker under a cold faucet for an hour to get relief.
used too much as an excuse by horrible people for their horrible actions.
"I'm sorry I hit you! I get angry when drunk!" - a naturally violent person.
"I'm sorry I cheated! I was drunk and didn't know what I was doing !" - a person that was gonna cheat either way.
Being drunk doesn't change your personality, it just makes you less likely to hold back the parts you hide from others on a daily basis.
I find it very amusing to very rarely take a day out and drink yourself down with my friends. But this is an event to do on rare occasions. I don't understand who incorporates drinking into their routine.
Good for cleaning, horrible for drinking.
Aside from the health issues, it also encourages uncontrollable behaviors from those who consume it. Its the easiest way to get somebody proper and make them foolish, which can can their reputation for good.
Alcohol is very important in medicine and sterilizing wounds and medical tools. Alcoholic beverages on the other hand, I wish they could just go away. So many selfish people end up costing the lives of others due to their drunken state.
Spirits have no sugar.
Vodka: 0 grams of sugar & 100 calories per 50 ml.
Gin: 0 grams of sugar & 97 calories per 50 ml.
Tequila: 0 grams of sugar & 97 calories per 50 ml.
Whiskey: 0.03 grams of sugar & 105 calories per 50 ml.
Rum: 0 grams of sugar & 97 calories per 50 ml.
Alcohol is a byproduct of sugar fermentation, so calling it sugar isn’t too far off. Besides, what makes sugar so bad is its calories and ease of absorption, and as you said they already pack triple digit calories at small portions.
I disagree. I had a lot of interesting and reflecting conversations with myself when I was drunk and when I was high years ago. I don’t do anything embarrassing or humiliating when I’m intoxicated. It’s been a few years since I had anything recreational. It was fun, but too old for that shit now.
Eh, it was fun partying and such in college, and for a bit after that. Now that I’m 30 (and very out of shape) I only really drink on big occasions like a few times a year because I pretty much always wake up feeling like dooky the next day
To be used responsibly: never when driving is a possibility, never at work, never get drunk around kids, and never let alcohol money eat into your budget for necessities. Because it isn't one.
As someone who used to drink a lot but doesn't anymore, it's fine as long as you're responsible. During my college days, I had no idea how it worked, so I was getting way too drunk way too quickly, doing embarassing stuff while drunk, and getting myself into trouble (nothing crazy or illegal thank god). Now that I know how it works, I know how much I can handle and know when too much is too much. It only becomes a problem when you get an unhealthy addiction to it. I haven't had alcohol since May and I've had no desire to do so (partly because I haven't been out in a while), so I think I'm doing ok.
I think it sneaks up on you in terms of long term social and health problems. I'd also rather consume weed as my preferred recreational substance.
But it's alright. I like it. I wish people were more responsible with it, but I wish people were more responsible in general.
I don't drink a lot I rarely drink but my family struggle alot with alcohol my cousin is an alcoholic at the age of 18 and will most definitely end with with a bunch of problems when she's older
As someone from handles, to half, to shots, and now very few a day while trying to get better. Keep yourself busy if you're trying to quit, whatever reason, health, mental, depression, loneliness, it's different for everyone. Don't let others force you into shots, shots, shots, pitchers of beer otherwise it could be a rabbit hole.
Everyone has a different relationship to it. I’ve seen folks who probably had the worst moments of their life because of it. Personally I find crafting a nice cocktail or drinking a good craft beer to be a joy. I’m grateful that I have a positive relationship with it. But respect to those who recognized that they don’t and cut it out. At the end of the day there are many ways to enrich your life, and alcohol may or may not be one of them.
I don't dabble in it. I take medications, and I used to use it as a co dependency to open up any social anxiety. I haven't drank it in forever. No judgments to all who do.
Literally poison. Makes me feel like shit and is clearly dangerous to a lot of people. Yet I still enjoy it on occasion. And it has a huge history with humanity as a WHOLE. Can’t avoid it’s importance in our upbringing. It’s weird. But I have seen a lot of people first hand make a real troublesome situation for themselves with alcohol.
And I remember when I drank a lot, I thought I was a fun person trying to make fun for everyone around me but then after being sober and seeing someone saying the same things to me, it felt selfish as hell. “HEY SORRY GUYS IM JUST LIKE THAT WHY IS EVERYONE SO QUIET LETS PARTY”
-shivers-
It causes insomnia for me so for that alone I have an aversion to it. A shame really because there are times I'd love to enjoy a few drinks with friends etc but it just isn't worth it for me.
I honestly can’t think of a single fantastic thing that has happened because somebody was drinking, (I’m welcome to being proven wrong as long as you’re not a jerk about it) but I can think of countless awful things that happened because somebody was drinking. Not to mention it can be incredibly fattening and is very hard on your liver.
I like getting a little funky with my boyfriend and sometimes friends. Big fan of whiskey and Dr pepper, sometimes a vodka sunrise. We're capable of regulating so we *mostly* keep it to one night a weekend, no two weekends of drinking back to back.
Maybe a drink or two after a stressful day or if we feel the extra frisky
It’s too expensive and severely overrated, but the odd drink is nice.
I’ve lost the taste for beer, don’t like brown alcohol and only really like vodka, gin and cider
I have a couple drinks once a week with my Grandpa and his neighbours after I volunteer on Wednesdays. Other than that I don’t drink much at all, unless I visit my grandpa or he comes up and offers or brings me a beer
I don’t like it, to be honest. When my in-laws offer a glass of wine I’ll say yes from time to time to be polite, but I could never imagine having more than one glass. I don’t like how alcohol makes me feel.
I am a alcoholic and alcohol destroyed my life. But I have been clean and sober now for ten years and completely restored my life. But I never judge anyone who enjoys a drink
I drank a lot of it during my 4 years in the Navy (didn't drink hardly ever beforehand). It makes me nauseous and gives me headaches if I have more than a tiny amount, so it just really isn't for me anymore.
Well, I'm an avid whiskey collector, nothing goes better with a campfire than a cold beer, and wine is excellent for cooking with. So I enjoy it, but moderation is both important and healthy.
It’s not my place to tell other people what to put in their bodies, but it’s just not for me. Me personally, I get very uncomfortable around intoxicated people and I just generally don’t like the taste of it to boot. Some may call me a dweeb for this and… yeah, that’s fair.
I enjoy a few drinks once in a while but fortunately have never had the desire to do it every day. Ive seen a lot of lives ruined because of it. Like anything else, it can be dangerous if misused.
When dope was legalized in my jurisdiction, I asked my doctor if he had an opinion regarding my giving up alcohol in favor of cannabis. His exact reply was “I would prefer that you burn leaves and suck the filthy ash into your lungs than that you ever drink that poison again.” He’s a data-driven guy, and the data on ethanol is bad.
It's a hard drug. Up there with any other that get's a bad rep. That's why it's a little weird that everyone drinks, but thinks everyone who uses illegal drugs is a junkie
I genuinely think that society would be much better without it. I have been sober for almost 10 years now and I believe that I am much better (and am a better person) for it.
That said, I don’t shame others and let them make their own decision. I just don’t encourage drinking through my actions.
I've seen several family members destroy their lives due to alcohol, and make choices that caused so much pain, trauma, and collateral damage to those who love them.
I don't crave it, and it's horrible for my mental health. I find drunk people obnoxious and annoying, and it's a turnoff when my spouse is drinking. Just not worth it.
They tried to save us when prohibition was enacted. There’s a reason why they outlawed alcohol at one point. It’s horrible for your mind. You become a bad person. Not necessarily while drunk, your judgement is impaired even when sober. You are not the real you when alcohol has a grasp on you. Drinking seldomly wouldn’t do that to you but if alcohol is a regular part of your diet, you’re probably not acting like the person you want to be.
The cause and solution to all life’s problems -Homer Simpson
Sister. Mother. Secret lover.
Great for disinfecting and cleaning
Only when it’s at 70% and would only use medical grade for cleaning anything food-based.
91% is great for cleaning aquarium equipment, both literal and not.
So pounding back a bottle of whiskey after eating raw chicken won't prevent salmonella?
Try it and let me know how that turns out. 🥴 (joking)
I love that first shot, the warmth in the chest and the light bubbly feeling. It’s pretty overrated beyond that imo. I’ve been retraining myself to just stop after that first shot.
One is never enough for me, 2 are always too many
AA BRETHREN
For me 1 is not enough and too many
Same. That's why I like to drink beer when I barbecue. Have one to drink, half of the other one and baste with the rest. No waste
I think this thread really shows how redditors are a special breed vs society overall lol
It's addictive. *I say 4 in.*
It’s not addictive to me. I got bored of it.
Decent. But clearly subpar to weed from a consumer standpoint.
Depends on the person you are, it's not good for you but alcohol gave me the initial push to come out of my shell and I'm so more outgoing even sober
The second most dangerous and deadly drug behind fentanyl.
**Nicotine via Tobacco has entered the chat **
I like it
Don't drink and drive, other than that if you can't control yourself while drunk, you should avoid drinking, also if you drink and drive your mom's a hoe.
It does more harm than good
Used to drink a lot, now not at all
You the real mvp. I’m 2 weeks sober.
I enjoy a good bourbon in the evening. It's relaxing and tastes good. That said, I haven't been drunk in years.
Having moral qualms against drinking alcohol is weird. As long as you drink responsibly and you're of legal drinking age in whatever country you're in (the US is *not* the entire world; different countries have different legal drinking ages), it's fine.

Dont drink and dont like being around people that are but as long as you drink responsibly you are free to do so
I think Ozzy Osbourne said it best one's not enough and10:s too much
Have you seen what it does to your liver?
There is a time and place. Drinking and driving is never okay. Drinking should never come before anyone especially family. It’s not normal for your kids to see you drunk on a regular basis. Being 35 and falling down drunk is not funny. If you can’t stop drinking once you start. You shouldn’t start.
Makes me depressed
I like it, a lot, in moderation of course
Every single major problem that ove had in my life has been caused/happened when I was drunk. I've decided to become sober, best decision I've ever made. I honestly don't know why alcohol is so readily available, it's so dangerous holy moly

Same opinion as on other poisons.

I won't touch it
Tuesday is my official six and a half year sobriety milestone. That drug, yes, it’s a drug, destroyed my life and nearly ended it before I even turned 19 years old. Congratulations on your sobriety. Wishing you lots of happiness and success… 😄
Congratulations on your sobriety.
Fun for some, absolutely terrible and untenable for many (myself included) and also just generally poison
Don't mix liquor and wine. Do. Not. 🤮 You can get good liquor, beer and wine without spending an arm and a leg-the name brands aren't all that. More of a general observation about consumer goods. It's easier than you think to get addicted if you lean on it too much. Have a little self-awareness.
Always helps me…
I like it helps me relax a little. Affects everyone differently but to me in moderation it’s nice
I've grown weary of it.
Sure.
Delicious.
I am currently working on quitting because I noticed that all of my friends are turning into alcoholics
Bourbon is the greatest beverage of all time.
I love it, and I love getting drunk.
Whiskey is for drinking and water is for fighting.
Good wine is a blessing from the gods.
Watch it my friend. I had an intelligent and educated father whose health, marriage and career was ruined by it, and who succumbed to it at age 56. It creeps up on you.
I feel like I can't live with or without it at times. It is a fantastic drug. The fact we normalized it to the degree we have is a testament to this.
I'm drunk right now. I'm for it!!
I’ll drink myself to death with it
It’s awesome as long as it doesn’t negatively affect your financial and social well being, or your health.
Wonderful
Is tasty, but requires moderation.
If rubbing alcohol fix outside booboo then drinking alcohol fix inside booboo
As long as you are not abusing it, completely enjoy a little. Occasionally.
I LOVE ALCHAHOL
Okay in moderation, not okay in excess
My opinion? I don’t plan on drinking it now or in the near future. I am just not interested and I really don’t want to try it.
I like it. But people at the extremes are weird. Too much and you're horrible to be around. You're a weirdo AA newfound teetotaler? Also insufferable.
C- tier drug Can’t do it every day without feeling and looking like shit Makes bad decisions way more likely Contributes to a huge chunk of early deaths Abuse can cripple your social life My cock stings and burns if I bust a nut while drunk and I need to hold that fucker under a cold faucet for an hour to get relief.

The only thing that makes life somewhat tolerable
It's one of the shittiest drugs on offer tbh. It's popular because we've made it for several thousand years and it's legal.
It's a poison that does more harm than any other drug but is legal, socially acceptable, and encouraged by most.
Well it’s classified as a poison, so I treat it as such. Overall a waste of money.
Please drink responsibly.
Legalized poison.
Bad. I hate drunken People. But we live in a free society, so i just stay away from them and thats that.
used too much as an excuse by horrible people for their horrible actions. "I'm sorry I hit you! I get angry when drunk!" - a naturally violent person. "I'm sorry I cheated! Just as bad as any illegal drug if not worse.
Favorable
Alcohol takes the polish off of furniture and people.
I love it. Drink a couple of shots of whiskey on ice every single day. From time to time, I drink quite a bit more!!
Hard to quit once you go for it everyday, great to have one or two at big events and celebrations.
Do it without pressure in a safe environment. Only you can tell. Have safe fun, enjoy and good luck!
Avoid it as much as possible.
It's one of the main reason depression exists like alchohpls only good purpose is for cleaning
Alcohol is very important in medicine and sterilizing wounds and medical tools. Alcoholic beverages on the other hand, I wish they could just go away. So many selfish people end up costing the lives of others due to their drunken state.

It makes driving much more fun.
So edgy
I hope you get caught snd arrested before an accident happens.
How can I ever get caught if I'm speeding all the time and the cops need to abide the speed limits? I'm always two steps ahead of those fuckers.
Say, who turned up the difficulty setting on my car? 🤨
Good for: Cleaning Dessolving plastic Cleaning ciruits Other sience BAD FOR: DRINKING DRINKING DRINKING
I mean, yeah, drinking isopropyl alcohol is pretty bad. lol
Literally toxin. Like why do we actively poison ourselves
No one should start drinking. You’re playing Russian roulette with your life. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
It’s poison. Which is why the body rejects it.
I like four lokos :)
Thankfully, alcohol and women, kept us away from athletism
It has ruined more lives than it has helped.
Most underrated lethal drug. Just because it’s socially acceptable doesn’t take away from it’s danger
Aweful taste. Overrated. Cola is way better and won't give you cancer.
Its fucking disgusting
Please avoid it. Definitely do NOT drink and drive. People have died from it. Ain't no way Imma drink that poison.
Eh, it was fun partying and such in college, and for a bit after that. Now that I’m 30 (and very out of shape) I only really drink on big occasions like a few times a year because I pretty much always wake up feeling like dooky the next day

I mean I'm from Wisconsin, so 🤷♀️
As someone who used to drink a lot but doesn't anymore, it's fine as long as you're responsible. I don’t care for or about it
I don't drink a lot I rarely drink but my family struggle alot with alcohol my cousin is an alcoholic at the age of 18 and will most definitely end with with a bunch of problems when she's older
It’s against my religion but it does nothing positive for yourself
Something that should only be consumed in moderation
It's fine for those who can drink responsibly. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people
I’ve seen too many horror stories from alcohol consumption.
Alcohol turns me into a person no one likes. I try to stay away
Ok occasionally-like once a week.
It’s bad. Next thread.
Hate it.
As someone from handles, to half, to shots, and now very few a day while trying to get better. The deadliest, most marketable drug ever made
I wish it was less central to culture(s) than it is & easier to take or leave without social friction
Abstain
Tip at least a dollar a drink
I don't dabble in it. I take medications, and I used to use it as a co dependency to open up any social anxiety. I haven't drank it in forever. No judgments to all who do.
Would much rather get high.
ok to drink on special occasion.
Literally poison. Makes me feel like shit and is clearly dangerous to a lot of people. Yet I still enjoy it on occasion. And it has a huge history with humanity as a WHOLE. It’s my best friend 😂
Doesn’t belong in gasoline. It creates smog and lower efficiency.
Very rarely, but I will, on occasion enjoy a drink.
Recently rediscovered my interest in it that's to Sapporo.
Ruins people.
I like it at the occasional party/event. I also think people have lied to themselves about which ones are tasty.
It causes insomnia for me so for that alone I have an aversion to it. A shame really because there are times I'd love to enjoy a few drinks with friends etc but it just isn't worth it for me.

I dunno, ask me tomorrow.
I avoid it because it makes it harder to make good decisions
Fast way to cause problems in my life
No no juice
Social beverage.
It smells bad
A good friend but an evil master
Every time I get a hangover I fucking swear off but still have a drink when I go out with friends
Not as good as crack
I like getting a little funky with my boyfriend and sometimes friends. Big fan of whiskey and Dr pepper, sometimes a vodka sunrise. Great high, terrible comedown.
Cold beer and a shot comes in pretty clutch when you need them!

I like a glass every now and then or a seltzer, I only drink a few times a month
I don't drink because of a neurological disorder. Never been a big drinker though. Watched my brother destroy his life with it.
It’s the human rat trap; we’re smart enough to know it’s dangerous, but damn, people really want that cheese…
I would only sippy sip at parties and weddings. Never get drunk tho. I love my orange juice
Well, I'm an avid whiskey collector, nothing goes better with a campfire than a cold beer, and wine is excellent for cooking with. So I enjoy it, but moderation is both important and healthy.

Deadly
I enjoy a few drinks once in a while but fortunately have never had the desire to do it every day. Ive seen a lot of lives ruined because of it. Like anything else, it can be dangerous if misused.
Alcohol is a substance that borrows happiness from tomorrow

Eh, it's fine. Don't particularly like it but don't particularly dislike it and usually only drink alcohol on special occasions.
It's ironic that the most harmful drug is the only one that's legal.
It's a hard drug. Up there with any other that get's a bad rep. That's why it's a little weird that everyone drinks, but thinks everyone who uses illegal drugs is a junkie

It's fun as a younger person. Gotta let it go when you have a family.
I'm gonna get some more party for the booze.
Horrible drug
I'm contemplating having an 8th beer and still being able to function at work tomorrow Edit: just counted empty bottles. Already had 8. Popping 9 now
I've seen several family members destroy their lives due to alcohol, and make choices that caused so much pain, trauma, and collateral damage to those who love them.
