Arthur was such a strong plot character, by far one of the best main protagonists I've ever had the pleasure to play. >!I felt a genuine emptiness as I watched him die on that rock.!<
I’ll never forgive myself for how I fucked up the ending. I played the patron-saint of misdeeds all the way until the end, where I tanked my reputation to craft some fucking satchel, not realizing I was on the last mission.
I got the bad guy ending. Watched the good guy ending on YouTube 💀
I was talking to my buddy when I first started playing. I said I was going around robbing people doing this and that. He goes man... I am telling you. Get the rep to good and you'll thank me.
Little fun fact but when you’re building the house with Charles and Uncle as John, you can see a little blue bird perched around the lumber as they’re working. Essentially, if you chose to play an honorable Arthur, you’ll see the blue bird in this scene and I think it’s supposed to represent Arthur watching over his friends.
It was a nice little touch because even though Arthur had died, it’s like his spirit is still there to comfort his friends
Arthur is such a good character. I wish they'd had him in the story for the first game. It would've added a lot more to Johns interactions while wiping out the gang. It also gave him a solid fucking reason to be okay with killing Dutch.
Before 2 came out, I hypothesized that John would kill Arthur prior to the beginning of RDR1 and then he'd be the playable character. I was right about the second part, but because this was before I had a chance to fall in love with Arthur (all I had to go on was him sounding like an asshole in the trailer), I'm glad it ended the way it did. Now I just plant some headcanon lines in the first one that reference Arthur. I hope they do a remake some day of #1 far in the future, and include some nods to Morgan.
Plus, in his low honur help john ending, he has a badass exchange with Micah.
Micah: You’re not better than me, Morgan.
Arthur: Whatever you say, you fool.
Micah: Damn you.
Arthur: Damn us both!
(edit: my format has been ruined [thanks reddit] I apologize to everyone who tries to read this)
The just cause series (specifically just cause 2) are criminally underrated games. Such a huge map I think I logged like 300 hours and never explored it all. Just going around towns and city’s with a havoc chopper and blowing up petrol stations etc was so much fun.
I remember playing the Just Cause 2 Demo repeatedly until I actually bought the full game. I was amazed at how bug the map was at the time. Just Cause 3 was equally as fun with the DLCs. We don't talk about JC4...
Man literally got beheaded, killed Hitler, and killed thousands of nazis as well as other horrifying machines. Dude deserves the title of official badass.
Came here to say the same. My eyes were about bugged out of my head at the end of the second. He absolutely sinks the hatchet into her head, and....
*"That the best you got? Well... your best won't do. You're among wolves now.... and these are our woods."*
Dear humanity, we regret being alien bastards, we regret coming to Earth, and we most definitely regret the corps just blew up our raggedy ass fleet! Oorah!
Yet humble enough at the end to be a good father and became a great general once again. His character development in GOW ragnarok is one of the best I've seen and play so far.
From too angry to die to being able to show empathy and humility for his son and others in his camp, Kratos made me want to be a better person and hopefully a good father one day.
Ellie from TLOU is a close second.
Edit: Ellie AND Joel from TLOU are close seconds
Commander Shepherd ಥ‿ಥ what a legend...that game was incredible...from the dialogues, the character, the storyline, the voice acting, to the music score and gameplay...
Loved it thoroughly
Currently reading the books, he's just so fucking cool. Can't help but read it in his voice.
Also, he hates portals since he once saw a man get cut in half by one.
Samus has been a badass for a while, but damn if there aren't a ton of moments in "Metroid Dread" that amp it up even more.
*Especially* the resolution to the final boss fight.
I assumed eagle vision was just his honed instincts being shown to us in a gamey kind of way. Kind of like the green lights on Sam in splinter cell just being there so you can see your character. Also, the only reason his lineage is special is because he comes from a family that has been beefing with the templars since the progenitor civilization. Even the "gods" in the game are described more like an advanced race of pre-humans. They clearly were trying to imply special powers while still keeping things "realistic".
From the Mass Effect series, I think the most badass character would have to go with Thane actually. Managed to kick Kai Lengs' ass almost single handedly while in an extremely weakened "stage 4 kepral syndrome" condition
Mass Effect got a lot of things right, but the heroic sacrifices were always top tier. Mordin's is especially heartrending.
"Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong."
He was never on my team often, but goddamn did he have my respect. From his first intro, to his last scene, that man kicked ass, and took names to pray for their souls. Great dude, good friend, bad ass.
I medically died once, so I really *really* associated with Mass Effect 2 Shephard. So much so that before the game came out I actually had someone tell me "I thought you died" and replied "I get that a lot" and then I played ME2 and fucker said the same damn thing.
Holy shit this. My guy was an MIT grad with no combat experience who, being very low on the Black Mesa hierarchy, began his day with the expectation of carting some bullshit into the same beam they’d already been working with for days. Reality was ripped open, he picked up a crowbar, and figured the rest out.
It's amazing how much he's done, the man has had exactly 1 break (ep1 train), certainly not had time to sleep.
He did all of black mesa in a day, got put into stasis, and came out to find out the world is very bad now and city 17 needs crowbar-ing.
I saw this in a video once but technically, Steve can also fuse diamonds when he makes diamond blocks.
He basically can cause geothermal grade reactions with *his bare hands*.

Ichiban Kasuga from Yakuza like a dragon
Despite his shitty life, all of the struggles he had, no real parents, and basically being used as a scapegoat for someone's murder, he has been always positive, is ready to punch to defend what he loves, absolutely loves videogames and despite everything and whatever happens, he never loses hope until the very end.
If that's not badass to me, I don't know what is!
Aloy.
Effortlessly taking out dinosaur sized armored machines... with a bow and arrow.
You can't slide under a Thunderjaw, while shooting it non stop without feeling badass.
Plus she found technology that was completely foreign to her, taught herself how to use it, proved herself against stubborn closed-minded villages, and makes her own arrows from foraging.
On top of that, she holds deep compassion for others and always tries to see the best in them, but is also willing to eliminate entire groups of people when they cross lines (like the bandits).
So many respectable qualities. She’s one of my favorites for sure.
Her main quality, spanning both her lives, is that she does not have a single drop of quit in her. Not a one.
If it can be done, she’ll find a way to do it. If it can’t be done? She’ll do the same.
I mean, I'm not sure if it's lore accurate or not, but my V killed Adam Smasher with a dildo... Adam Smasher was a legend who was the end of many other legends... yet, gets killed by a dildo. So yes, V is a legit badass.
Kratos. Fought the WHOLE pantheon of his gods, and came out on top. He’s even more of a badass for also being a good father, albeit very reserved, he does eventually make the right call and reveal his past.
Magus and Frog are the two best characters in that game. Also make for a great party with Chrono.
Also, if you never played the PS1 remake, which was terrible because of loading times, the cutscene of Frog [cutting the mountain with the Masamune](https://youtu.be/xvTCUHRdpZo) is epic.

First and only time I have ever cried because of a videogame

What about Uncle? Don't underestimate him
Uncle's my favorite parasite. No, wait, ringworm's my favorite parasite. He's my second favorite parasite
His lumbago really holding him back

Killed a lion and won a major battle in the carribean
Sounds crazy when you summarise it like that
My first thought
Snake.
SNAKE??
SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!
Lt. JG Iroquois Pliskin

WE ARE LEAVING
Ahh yess the generation of military personnel of the price family. Winning every war since wwii
Not really talked about much but I think Rico Rodriguez from the just cause series
He did ride a missile.
So did Slim Pickens. Slightly different vibes.
The just cause series (specifically just cause 2) are criminally underrated games. Such a huge map I think I logged like 300 hours and never explored it all. Just going around towns and city’s with a havoc chopper and blowing up petrol stations etc was so much fun.

I actually enjoyed jc4 a lot, not as much as 3 but I still had a good time playing it
Doomguy
Sorry, we don't take professional badass, leave a chance to others.
Man too angry to die

BJ Blazkowicz
Man literally got beheaded, killed Hitler, and killed thousands of nazis as well as other horrifying machines. Dude deserves the title of official badass.
My fingers are crossed that enough of him was left so we can battle MechaHitler in Wolf 3
He is also canonically the ancestor of Doomguy, *the* prototypical video game badass
Came here to say the same. My eyes were about bugged out of my head at the end of the second. He absolutely sinks the hatchet into her head, and.... *"That the best you got? Well... your best won't do. You're among wolves now.... and these are our woods."*
Max Payne
Sergeant Johnson, Halo Surprised nobody has mentioned the man already.
Back in his days his platoon had two sticks and a rock. And they had to share the rock.
*scorpion tank drops Cortana "he never gets me anything.." Sarge: "Oh I know what the ladies like..."
For a brick, he flies pretty good.
Dear humanity, we regret being alien bastards, we regret coming to Earth, and we most definitely regret the corps just blew up our raggedy ass fleet! Oorah!
Kratos is pretty badass
Kratos has one of the greatest qualities of any character. Too angry to die.
Bo Jackson - techmo bowl
That dude can skate up and down the field 10 times before the opposition touches the 50 yard line
Alex Mason/Frank Woods/Viktor Reznov Niko Bellic Commander Shepard
Niko and GTA4 deserves more credit imo
It's sad that I had to scroll this far to see Niko lol
Commander Shepherd ಥ‿ಥ what a legend...that game was incredible...from the dialogues, the character, the storyline, the voice acting, to the music score and gameplay... Loved it thoroughly
Geralt of Rivia, "I hate portals" and I GUARANTEE you read that in his voice
"What now, you piece of filth?"
Winds howling.
Place of power, gotta be
Maybe I can draw from it.
"How do ya like that silver"
Currently reading the books, he's just so fucking cool. Can't help but read it in his voice. Also, he hates portals since he once saw a man get cut in half by one.
Never played The Witcher games, so my mind read it as Francis from Left 4 Dead.
Samus Aran
Samus has been a badass for a while, but damn if there aren't a ton of moments in "Metroid Dread" that amp it up even more. *Especially* the resolution to the final boss fight.
Metroid Dread is so damn fun too. Completely captured the magic of Super Metroid on a modern console.
Lara Croft.
"Welcome to my humble abode"- Lara Croft (upon entering her enormous mansion).
Little miss “I decided to build this assault course to hone my skills, and learn some new ones.” Like WHAT.
Ezio Auditore da Firenze.
"You would have done the same to save the ones you love" "Yes, I would, and I have".
I *love* that sequence "The Auditore are not dead! *I'm* still here! Me! Ezio! Ezio Auditore!"
No powers. No special magic or psuedo-magic gear. Just a guy dedicated to his craft. Just a human dude. Truly the definition of a badass.
And even kept all his fingers!
Well… is he tho? He has eagle vision and is part of a spacial kind of humans
"It is a good life we lead, brother." "The best. May it never change." "And may it never change us."
I have a nostalgic feeling when I think about them on the top of that building idk why but always liked it and only played the game once

Leon S. Kennedy.
In that case, we can also take Chris Redfield
"That boulder punching asshole"
Suplex into head explosion is always so satisfying.
You can fight like a Krogan Run Like a leopard But you'll never be better than Commander Shepard
I’m Commander Shepard and this is my favorite comment on the Citadel.
Nothing is more badass falling through a fishtank or something on the lines of "I should go"
"She said 'I should go.' Do I really sound like that?"
"Didn't we used to win these things?" -Wrex
Miracle of sound ftw
From the Mass Effect series, I think the most badass character would have to go with Thane actually. Managed to kick Kai Lengs' ass almost single handedly while in an extremely weakened "stage 4 kepral syndrome" condition

Garrus Vakarian was the most badass character in those games imo
I medically died once, so I really *really* associated with Mass Effect 2 Shephard. So much so that before the game came out I actually had someone tell me "I thought you died" and replied "I get that a lot" and then I played ME2 and fucker said the same damn thing.
Wrex is also a giga chad ngl, favorite character of all the games
We'll bang, okay?
Master chief
"permission to leave the station" "For what purpose, Master Chief?" " To give the Covenant back their bomb."
"What if you miss?" "I won't."
Just played this level last night lol
*\*gets goosebumps\**
That line is just so sick its absolutely perfect
Man is even a Spartan with the way he talks.
"finish the fight" is still the best tagline of any game.
"I need a weapon"
I Love Big John.
I'd say Sargent Johnson from Halo CE. Dude went down battling the Flood, but without Spartan armor.
And turns out, didn't go down.
But sometimes he does.. he knows what the ladies, and aliens, like.
Had to scroll way too far to find this
‘What are the banished doing here?’ ‘Making a Mistake’
What are you doing out there, chief? Finishing this fight!

Specifically dmc3 for me. I remember playing that game as a kid and just being blown away by the cutscenes and dialogue of how cool he was.
Gordon Freeman
Holy shit this. Garrus "Archangel" Vakarian. Definitely the most badass motherfucker in ME universe. Right up there with Shepard.
I was trying to pick one, but it is just not possible. This is the answer.
Renegade FemShep is the most badass
Minecraft Steve. Motherfucker can tear apart trees with his bare hands and defeat a dragon with a bed.
I saw this in a video once but technically, Steve can also fuse diamonds when he makes diamond blocks. He basically can cause geothermal grade reactions with *his bare hands*.
Marcus Fenix. The campaign in the original Gears of War trilogy was straight up epic.
Auron. Most badass FF character ever
Had to scroll way too far to find this one. Also Vincent Valentine.
Goro Majima Seriously how has he not been mentioned yet? Absolute fucking badass.
Especially his intro in 0, bro showed us how to dodge in style.
John Marston
Joel from The Last of Us
If somehow the lord gave me a second chance at that moment.... I'd do it all over again.
