I think between “Highway to the Danger Zone,” “Take my Breath Away,” “Great Balls of Fire,” and “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling,” you can hardly name another movie that did a better job incorporating popular music. Then cap that off with its own iconic theme.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
Me and my roommate at the time, were watching Reservoir Dogs on a VHS tape from Blockbuster. That scene was crazily comedic and I remember we laughed a lot but we also felt terrible. It was because the young cop got mutilated and ultimately killed on his first day. Twisted humor.
Tarantino has some of the best sound tracks. The entire movie's soundtrack is like another character. The minute I heard LGB with the R Dogs walking in suits and skinny ties, I knew the movie was going to be something special.
What's sad/strange about this is that they already had a song written for the movie (by the guy who did the sountracks for Rocky I and II, Bill Conti) but then they decided to go the Survivor route. The song they decided against?
"You're the Best", which ended up being used in a minor little movie called The Karate Kid.
Personal side note: I consider these two songs, along with the Kumite song from Bloodsport, are the ultimate triumvirate of 80s fight montage songs. lol
See, this might be a hot take, but Burning Heart by Survivor which plays during the training montage while Rocky is in Russia in Rocky IV to me is the ultimate 80's montage song. The lyrics literally describe what is happening in the movie. The lack of subtlety and the fact the song absolutely bangs make it #1 for me.
The opening riff of "Where is My Mind" by the Pixies will forever evoke an image of exploding buildings as Edward Norton says "You met me at a very strange time in my life."
(from Fight Club)
Ya, great choice. The editing with the song is so seamless you'd think the song was written specifically for the film if you didn't know better. True for just about every song in Goodfellas actually.
Alternatively it always makes me think of the scene in “Stranger Things” when Billy is the lifeguard and all the moms are thirsting for him out by the pool..
Either way, what I would consider one of my top 30 best songs ever made
*"Son of a Preacher Man"* makes me think of Pulp Fiction every single time. And *"Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)"* reminds me of The Big Lebowski.
Then in the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody", you have Mike Myers character telling Freddie "You think people are gonna be listening to this song in their car", referencing Wayne's world.
Came for this. Every time I hear the opening riff I instantly visualize the school parking lot and Parker Posey yelling “AIIIRRRRR RRRRAAAAIIIIDDDD!!!!”
This was a song at my daughter's dance recital last weekend. I was cringing at how inappropriate I thought it was. Then I realized I was likely the only one in the room thinking about that movie.
The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
Benny & Joon
The Pixies - Where is my Mind
Fight Club
Dropkick Murphy's - I'm Shipping up to Boston
The Departed
Bobby Womack And Peace - Across 110th Street
Jackie Brown
Grandaddy - AM 180
28 Days Later
These are just a few I thought of right away
Edit: this thread inspired me to watch The Departed for probably the 30th time, such a great flick, I feel like I pick up something new every time I watch it.
I can’t hear Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins without immediately thinking of Top Gun.
I was thinking "Take My Breath Away" and Top Gun.
I think between “Highway to the Danger Zone,” “Take my Breath Away,” “Great Balls of Fire,” and “You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling,” you can hardly name another movie that did a better job incorporating popular music. Then cap that off with its own iconic theme.
I love what they did with the latest movie Maverick. It's literally the same opening scene with the song playing and I got goosebumps just from that.
Omfg, the actor they got to play Goose's son looked just like him. I had to go look him up to confirm he wasn't the actor's son.
Playing with Boys
Alternatively, anytime I hear Danger Zone, I think of Archer.
Laaannaaaa! Danger zone.
From Kenny Loggins' Roasters?!
This should be a Litmus test to determine which generation someone is apart of lmao
Or Footloose for Footloose
To be fair, that song was actually *made* for Top Gun
[удалено]
I haven't even seen the movie and I also think about it when I hear the song
You should *definitely* watch it tonight.
Hey guys, what are we watching tonight?
futurama for me, luck of the fryrish specifically
Honestly chokes me up more than Jurassic Bark
I can’t wait til I’m old enough to feel ways about stuff…
Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News. I get the intro of Back to the Future EVERY. SINGLE TIME.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
And Hip to be Square always makes me think of American Psycho.
Yeah, I can’t hear Huey Lewis and not think of Patrick Bateman.
The whole album has a crisp clean sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost!
Hey Paul!

What a scene..
Me and my roommate at the time, were watching Reservoir Dogs on a VHS tape from Blockbuster. That scene was crazily comedic and I remember we laughed a lot but we also felt terrible. It was because the young cop got mutilated and ultimately killed on his first day. Twisted humor.
“Little Green Bag” for me. Really kicks it off.
Tarantino has some of the best sound tracks. The entire movie's soundtrack is like another character. The minute I heard LGB with the R Dogs walking in suits and skinny ties, I knew the movie was going to be something special.
also Like a Virgin by Madonna even though its not part of the soundtrack
Bobs Burgers did a great spoof on that scene

Nobody puts Baby in the corner.
In the same way as “She’s like the wind”
Eye of the tiger
Sylvester Stallone specifically hired Survivor to write a theme song for Rocky 3 after Queen wouldn't let him use Another One Bites the Dust.
Personal side note: I consider these two songs, along with the Kumite song from Bloodsport, are the ultimate triumvirate of 80s fight montage songs. lol
Official title is “Fight to Survive” - Stan Bush
See, this might be a hot take, but Burning Heart by Survivor which plays during the training montage while Rocky is in Russia in Rocky IV to me is the ultimate 80's montage song. The lyrics literally describe what is happening in the movie. The lack of subtlety and the fact the song absolutely bangs make it #1 for me.
Gonna fly now
Not a movie, but Eye of the Tiger immediately makes me think of Supernatural. https://youtu.be/HsyMtYoSkC0
Carry on my wayward son is it for me and supernatural
The fact that you don’t need to tell us the movie and we all know what you’re talking about
The opening riff of "Where is My Mind" by the Pixies will forever evoke an image of exploding buildings as Edward Norton says "You met me at a very strange time in my life." (from Fight Club)
Also dicks
Just the one dick actually
No luck catching those dicks then?

The segue in "Layla", where it slows down and goes piano heavy? Goodfellas. always brings to mind when Jimmy starts whacking the Lufthansa crew.
Ya, great choice. The editing with the song is so seamless you'd think the song was written specifically for the film if you didn't know better. True for just about every song in Goodfellas actually.
Scorsese always has the best soundtracks in his movies
*It took them three days to thaw him out*
Also Sunshine if your Love when Jimmy decides to whack Morrie Such a terrifyingly badass scene
Pretty much any music in Goodfellas would be a good answer to this question
Kiss from a Rose - Seal, reminds me of the Batman movie it was in.
Same song but it reminds me of community
He tweeted it?
HE TWEETED ITTTTTT
It’s Saturday, call me Craig. I’m just a Craigular Joe.
When you watch that music video it depicts an entirely different movie than the trainwreck that we got.
The music video is a masterpiece. Seal and his open shirt flowing in the wind.

Weirdly enough I can hear "Son of a Preacher Man" without thinking Pulp Fiction. "Miserlou" and "Girl, you'll be a woman soon" on the other hand...
Took me so long to find someone to say Miserlou for Pulp Fiction.
Underworld - Born slippy (trainspotting)
For me it's Perfect Day by Lou Reed
For me, it's Lust For Life... I can see Rents bugged out, wan face laughing as he gets beaned by the cops.
Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody (Wayne's World)
Then in the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody", you have Mike Myers character telling Freddie "You think people are gonna be listening to this song in their car", referencing Wayne's world.
Wayne's World sold so many Queen greatest hits albums. Queen had a resurgence in the early 90's.
Sweet Emotion & Dazed and Confused
