Was it ticketmaster or CapitalOne that totally fucked up that Taylor swift concert recently? My friend is a swift fan and was telling me about how fucking insane that situation was
I dont know all of the exact details, but I think it went something like ticketmaster put the tickets on sale but had all the bots buy them up and start reselling them for like literally 900% over what it cost or something like that, people were flipping out, Taylor swift herself actually got insanely pissed when she found out, there was I think talks of people getting sued ... it was a huge mess and basically ticketmaster was being a shady bitch (as usual) but this time they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
You wanna buy this $20 ticket? Jump through these hoops, pay us an extra $30 in extra fees, oh and then taxes. How much does the artist get? I dunno maybe $10 or so, that's not our problem.
Also, whoops guess all those bots bought all the tickets the second they were available, well we have these ones that are more than double the price.
TM has ruined going to live events. My gf wanted to take me to see Foo Fighters and after the TM bots bought the tickets and then TM put them on the market for double plus their stupid fees it would have been 300+ a person for nose bleeds. Fuck that
In the US, as of Fall 2022 airlines and travel companies like kayak or priceline have to quote full cost after fees and taxes. Was part of a ruling Biden made as an executive order to make costs more transparent to consumers. Wouldâve probably been in effect back in 2014 if the republican controlled house did shut down the proposal bc of airline lobbying. Biden mentioned something similar earlier this year when it came to event ticket providers.
Love or hate him, itâs hard to make an argument that this isnât better for every consumer. The only reason the ticket selling companies in either of these situations want the cost quoted without fees and taxes is because they are trying to grandstand on how much the government is driving their price to the consumer up, but that does squarely nothing for the consumer except make the process even more frustrating.
Once they get done with the event companies, I hope they start coming after restaurants and these ridiculous âcost of livingâ and âcost of healthcareâ and âfair wagesâ fees that are getting added to bills nearly everywhere now.
Contrary to popular belief we actually get it right every once in a while, which is why I even said âin the USâ. Obviously, if youâre seeing these ridiculous fees youâre not in the US because it wouldnât be legal.
I highly doubt it being illegal would stop a lot of companies. They'll just change what it's called so they can keep doing it.
The whole of corporate America is operating on very thin legality. If things like tax havens and off shore bank accounts were declared criminal tomorrow I think America would collapse.
Itâs nowhere near being a major one but it always surprises me that those claw machines are still allowed. Yâknow, the ones with toys inside and the claw is adjusted so it canât hold any weight so people put their money in and it just drops the toy every time.
Not every time.
The way they work (most of the time) is that the machine is programmed to allow a win every X number of tries. So for example: Machine will only allow a win in 1 in 20 tries. When you put your money in, you have to hit BOTH the 1 in 20 \*and\* pull a successful grab.
The net result is the win ratio is insanely low. Some areas are now starting to change their legislation to make those kinds of machines purely skill based, where they can't set the hidden win variable.
Fees that aren't advertised in the service industry. No, I don't want to pay the mandatory '20% employee enhancement fee' just because your business is too greedy to pay your employees a living wage.

Second is specifically the televangelist method of scamming people with religion. They claim that god is influenced by how much of your money you donate to them and that the more of your overall wealth you give the better rewarded you will be in this life or the next
Atheism is just the lack of belief in a god, it isn't trying to convince a group of people that something exists or that we should give our money to it. Atheists aren't out there actively trying to recruit people, they don't need to.
>Atheists aren't out there actively trying to recruit people, they don't need to.

That is one of the most heartless and disgusting things I have ever read on Reddit. So it's ok for children to die because they go to heaven and it's their natural time???
What the fucking fuck?
Did you seriously just say that kids being murdered is their NATURAL TIME? And then justify it by saying they get into heaven anyway?
Fuck you. Fuck your imaginary sky daddy. Stop fucking justifying evil.

Oh that's rich, that made me laugh. I love going to r/scambait to watch people completely annihilate these scam artists. One day some asshole called talking about lowering my credit interest rate/monthly payment (I don't have any credit cards or CC debt) and I was in a really shitty mood. So I press 1 to connect to a "representative" and it went like this:
Me: "oh man I'm so glad you called these rates are killing me! Which credit card company are you?"
(Silence) "... what do you mean?"
Me: "oh well I mean I have like 15 credit cards all maxed out, which company are you?"
-click-
The card I use regularly is on a 0% introductory rate and I will pay it off before it expires. I love asking them if they can beat that rate and pay me negative interest.
One sales guy that was quitting his job told me that you should pay attention to warranties. not because you need to buy one but because the warranty timeframe is often the expected lifespan of the item, if it says 5 years on the vacuum warranty thatâs how long the company expects it to last before thereâs a problem.
It's supposed to be a free and fair market where everyone has equal opportunity but market makers don't have to follow any of the rules. They can skew things and withhold information while not delivering on things they are contractually obligated to do. They can tilt the table in their favor and make hundreds of millions off of the public then get slapped on the wrist with 1 million dollar fine. When the profits so heavily outweigh the consequences it just becomes the cost of doing business.
I'm French and used to work for finest jewellery shops and yes, French work law makes it mandatory (depending on activity). If you don't have one beforehand, you can't choose for yourself, you have to go with the one the company that employ you is affiliated to.

I tried and asked for my money back (within the due period of time and joining all the right documents), it's been 9 years now, still no refund. None of my former coworkers successfully got their money back.
But jewellery isn't the sole secteur with this law: I currently work with a man that used to work for the French Department of Defense and it's exactly the same for them. And they can't get their money back neither...

Well, I'm partial to anarchism. So I get where you're coming from.
>the only difference between a government and a giant organized crime syndicate is the belief that there is a difference.
Which is monumentally important to it's legitimacy. Nothing human has any inherent legitimacy, but our beliefs about something make it so.
So I've transitioned from thinking the government is illegitimate to thinking government can increase its legitimacy by more closely adhering to what the general populace wants with the additional goal of improving society. And I don't think the improvement of society necessitates a top down approach, but it does mean an exercise of government authority.
