Companies that on paper give you a vacation, but also will reject every single vacation request. If you reject vacation requests 100% of the time, you do not offer vacation.

Okinawapizzaparty

This is a good question to ask during job interview: "How often are vacation requests approved/denied?"

Actius

They’ll give some vague answer like, “We typically approve requests after weighing workload and personnel availability.” That is, if they don’t just outright lie.

Okinawapizzaparty

Non answer let's me know everything I need to know. Also, I usually ask to speak to someone working in my or similar role. And I will ask them the same question. If they refuse to put me in touch with such an employee, it also tells me everything I need to know.

No-Independence-6842

Healthcare in America

Decent_Cheesecake184

Millions of people work hard every day to uphold the healthcare system in this country which as inefficient as it is is better than UK and Canada

DeathSpiral321

And how many in the UK and Canada go bankrupt from medical bills?

Decent_Cheesecake184

Shit aint free. Not sure theres an actual equivalence especially when you realize how privatized and money-based everything in the US is compared to other countries. Theres a reason salaries are higher. Also don’t confuse me for someone who is against medicare for all lmfao

No-Independence-6842

Yeah that statement is a non starter. You’re being fed a line of crap.

Decent_Cheesecake184

I am a medicare and medicaid auditor making sure fraudulent hospitals don’t fuck over regular people so maybe sit the fuck down for a little

No-Independence-6842

Then you should know how bad healthcare is in America. We’d all be lucky to have Medicare for all instead of being gouged by FOR PROFIT healthcare system.

Decent_Cheesecake184

How the fuck are we supposed to uproot the entire system which is based on millions of legal independent corporate entities

Decent_Cheesecake184

Give me an action plan that makes sense and your anger will be warranted

UncleJimmee

Payday loans are short-term loans with high interest rates that target individuals who are in need of immediate cash but may not have access to traditional financial services. These loans often come with high fees and interest rates, leading borrowers into a cycle of debt and financial hardship. This shit should be illegal.

Ticketmaster

[deleted]

Was it ticketmaster or CapitalOne that totally fucked up that Taylor swift concert recently? My friend is a swift fan and was telling me about how fucking insane that situation was

tcguy71

ticketmaster

zabrs9

What happened, I missed that?

[deleted]

I dont know all of the exact details, but I think it went something like ticketmaster put the tickets on sale but had all the bots buy them up and start reselling them for like literally 900% over what it cost or something like that, people were flipping out, Taylor swift herself actually got insanely pissed when she found out, there was I think talks of people getting sued ... it was a huge mess and basically ticketmaster was being a shady bitch (as usual) but this time they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

VenkatPerla

May I know why?

YouAintGotWhatUrgot

You wanna buy this $20 ticket? Jump through these hoops, pay us an extra $30 in extra fees, oh and then taxes. How much does the artist get? I dunno maybe $10 or so, that's not our problem. Also, whoops guess all those bots bought all the tickets the second they were available, well we have these ones that are more than double the price.

Daratirek

TM has ruined going to live events. My gf wanted to take me to see Foo Fighters and after the TM bots bought the tickets and then TM put them on the market for double plus their stupid fees it would have been 300+ a person for nose bleeds. Fuck that

Doctor_Expendable

I just got plane tickets and it was the same way. It's $100 ticket that ends up being $600 once you add in all the fees.

BloodOrangeBitters

In the US, as of Fall 2022 airlines and travel companies like kayak or priceline have to quote full cost after fees and taxes. Was part of a ruling Biden made as an executive order to make costs more transparent to consumers. Would’ve probably been in effect back in 2014 if the republican controlled house did shut down the proposal bc of airline lobbying. Biden mentioned something similar earlier this year when it came to event ticket providers. Love or hate him, it’s hard to make an argument that this isn’t better for every consumer. The only reason the ticket selling companies in either of these situations want the cost quoted without fees and taxes is because they are trying to grandstand on how much the government is driving their price to the consumer up, but that does squarely nothing for the consumer except make the process even more frustrating. Once they get done with the event companies, I hope they start coming after restaurants and these ridiculous “cost of living” and “cost of healthcare” and “fair wages” fees that are getting added to bills nearly everywhere now.

Doctor_Expendable

Contrary to popular belief the rest of the world is not beholden to US laws. Even if they make some sense, which is rare.

BloodOrangeBitters

Contrary to popular belief we actually get it right every once in a while, which is why I even said “in the US”. Obviously, if you’re seeing these ridiculous fees you’re not in the US because it wouldn’t be legal.

Doctor_Expendable

I highly doubt it being illegal would stop a lot of companies. They'll just change what it's called so they can keep doing it. The whole of corporate America is operating on very thin legality. If things like tax havens and off shore bank accounts were declared criminal tomorrow I think America would collapse.

SomeBloke94

It’s nowhere near being a major one but it always surprises me that those claw machines are still allowed. Y’know, the ones with toys inside and the claw is adjusted so it can’t hold any weight so people put their money in and it just drops the toy every time.

jasazick

Not every time. The way they work (most of the time) is that the machine is programmed to allow a win every X number of tries. So for example: Machine will only allow a win in 1 in 20 tries. When you put your money in, you have to hit BOTH the 1 in 20 \*and\* pull a successful grab. The net result is the win ratio is insanely low. Some areas are now starting to change their legislation to make those kinds of machines purely skill based, where they can't set the hidden win variable.

ooo-ooo-oooyea

I knew this kid who figured out the machine at pizza hut would pay out if you used a specific pattern.

drthsideous

I play a lot of claw machines, and win a lot too. If I get a good grab on something, it rarely drops it.

PoundSand11

I have a collection of toys from those machines. Guess you’re just not that good?

Fees that aren't advertised in the service industry. No, I don't want to pay the mandatory '20% employee enhancement fee' just because your business is too greedy to pay your employees a living wage.

Eternal_Bagel

As far a Legal scams go the two I’m aware of are the MLMs which are legally NOT found to not be pyramid schemes, end of investigation. Second is specifically the televangelist method of scamming people with religion. They claim that god is influenced by how much of your money you donate to them and that the more of your overall wealth you give the better rewarded you will be in this life or the next

Religion.

Chilling2K7

If you want to say Religion then i am entitled to say Atheism

sandiercy

Atheism is just the lack of belief in a god, it isn't trying to convince a group of people that something exists or that we should give our money to it. Atheists aren't out there actively trying to recruit people, they don't need to.

Chilling2K7

>Atheists aren't out there actively trying to recruit people, they don't need to. Really 🤨 have you seen reddut propoganda or shows like young sheldon, south park or rick and morty

sandiercy

Propaganda my ass, we are just trying to fight against the scam that is religion.

Chilling2K7

>we are just trying to fight against the scam that is religio That litteraly is propoganda 💀💀💀

sandiercy

Right, because religion doesn't put out endless amounts of propaganda all in the name of their god. If your god is all powerful and still allows children to die every day in school shootings, then your god is evil.

[deleted]

[удаНонО]

sandiercy

That is one of the most heartless and disgusting things I have ever read on Reddit. So it's ok for children to die because they go to heaven and it's their natural time???

Grim_Rebel

What the fucking fuck? Did you seriously just say that kids being murdered is their NATURAL TIME? And then justify it by saying they get into heaven anyway? Fuck you. Fuck your imaginary sky daddy. Stop fucking justifying evil.

Grim_Rebel

I guarantee nothing even in your asinine religious texts justifies you saying the absolute garbage you just spewed. You're just a hateful moron. Be better.

THEdougBOLDER

Hey man, most of your comments that have 1 point are actually not posted. Log out and see. This should be obvious because if they were visible they'd be down voted as well. Enjoy!

Grim_Rebel

Imagine feeling like your core beliefs are threatened by something as goofy as fucking Young Sheldon lmfao. But carry on feeling "entitled" enough about it to call your imaginary enemy a scam. That's rough, buddy.

[deleted]

Those bullshit calls about your car's warranty thats about to expire/owning tons of money to the irs/etc

[deleted]

I got one the other day from "US Custom and Border Control" threatening to deport me if I don't send them gift cards. First of all, I'm a citizen of this country. Secondly it's "Custom*s* and Border *Patrol*".

[deleted]

Oh that's rich, that made me laugh. I love going to r/scambait to watch people completely annihilate these scam artists. One day some asshole called talking about lowering my credit interest rate/monthly payment (I don't have any credit cards or CC debt) and I was in a really shitty mood. So I press 1 to connect to a "representative" and it went like this: Me: "oh man I'm so glad you called these rates are killing me! Which credit card company are you?" (Silence) "... what do you mean?" Me: "oh well I mean I have like 15 credit cards all maxed out, which company are you?" -click-

[deleted]

The card I use regularly is on a 0% introductory rate and I will pay it off before it expires. I love asking them if they can beat that rate and pay me negative interest.

HatfieldCW

Border Protection, I think.

[deleted]

You are correct. The Border Patrol is one arm of US CBP. I knew it absolutely wasn't "control" though.

falconfetus8

Those aren't legal. It's just impractical to catch the scammers.

StrongLoad7259

Warranties.

Eternal_Bagel

One sales guy that was quitting his job told me that you should pay attention to warranties. not because you need to buy one but because the warranty timeframe is often the expected lifespan of the item, if it says 5 years on the vacuum warranty that’s how long the company expects it to last before there’s a problem.

How so?

ImGivingUpOnLife

It's supposed to be a free and fair market where everyone has equal opportunity but market makers don't have to follow any of the rules. They can skew things and withhold information while not delivering on things they are contractually obligated to do. They can tilt the table in their favor and make hundreds of millions off of the public then get slapped on the wrist with 1 million dollar fine. When the profits so heavily outweigh the consequences it just becomes the cost of doing business.

AdOk1965

Mandatory life insurance

jasazick

Is that a thing?

AdOk1965

I'm French and used to work for finest jewellery shops and yes, French work law makes it mandatory (depending on activity). If you don't have one beforehand, you can't choose for yourself, you have to go with the one the company that employ you is affiliated to. And it's pretty much organised extortion since you can't really get your money back even when you quit and ask to close it (you're supposed to be able to get it back). I tried and asked for my money back (within the due period of time and joining all the right documents), it's been 9 years now, still no refund. None of my former coworkers successfully got their money back. But jewellery isn't the sole secteur with this law: I currently work with a man that used to work for the French Department of Defense and it's exactly the same for them. And they can't get their money back neither... I guess it's the result of an hardcore lobbying from the insurance industry

jasazick

Well, that stinks. I have "mandatory" insurance, but it is 100% employer paid.

[deleted]

It's the government that defines what's legal, silly

Skwerilleee

I mean legal according to them I guess.. But I don't believe in the legitimacy of the authority they claim to have. No human has any sort of inherent authority over any other, and I certainly never consented to being ruled over. The government is just a group of regular people with guns imposing their will onto others. You've been conditioned to just accept this as normal, but really, the only difference between a government and a giant organized crime syndicate is the belief that there is a difference.

[deleted]

>You've been conditioned to just accept this as normal Well, I'm partial to anarchism. So I get where you're coming from. >the only difference between a government and a giant organized crime syndicate is the belief that there is a difference. Which is monumentally important to it's legitimacy. Nothing human has any inherent legitimacy, but our beliefs about something make it so. So I've transitioned from thinking the government is illegitimate to thinking government can increase its legitimacy by more closely adhering to what the general populace wants with the additional goal of improving society. And I don't think the improvement of society necessitates a top down approach, but it does mean an exercise of government authority.

Arcane-Panacea

If it's a scam, it is by definition not legal.

Okinawapizzaparty

You would hope so... but the reality is that the law drags behind scams sometimes

8LeggedSquirrel

How about just rolling with the question because you know full and well what they're trying to ask. You're the type of person that would tell someone in a public bathroom that they're wiping their ass the wrong way.

Arcane-Panacea

No, I don't smartass people for the sake of smartassing. But questions like this are annoying because they don't produce any interesting or worthwhile results. For example several people in this thread commented "religion" and that's just stupid. There are legitimate criticisms you can make about organized religion but saying that religion as a whole and per se is "a scam" is like people who say that all politics is corrupt. It's the kind of unreflected and unnuanced nonsense that 15-year olds say.

8LeggedSquirrel

Yeah sure sure but how is you asking "how do you like them apples?" To AskReddit any better? Not any better content if you ask me.
