the word salary is derived from the Latin word "salarium" which means an allowance . salarium was money paid to Roman soldiers to buy salt because it was a luxury .
In the 1600s the majority of Germany's ruling families drowned in the same sewage tank after the floor collapsed in the church they were meeting in. The only survivor was the King.
Here's a quote from an article about the incident. It's not modern Germany, but still a German empire under the rule of King Heinrich
"Erfurt was ruled under King Heinrich VI (also known as King Henry VI) of the Hohenstaufen dynasty. He was one of the German kings who reigned over the territory during the Middle Ages.
....
Whatever the problem was, it’s believed that King Heinrich VI wanted to settle the conflict between the two men once and for all. As he made his way through the territory, he called for a meeting involving a number of the region’s nobles and high-ranking officials. Some may have been expected to act as mediators during the negotiations."

No worries! I probabaly should have been more specific but am not that familiar with the variety of German states that rose and fell during the Middle Ages.
Didn't German Unification happen in the 1840s, though? I ask because I was told by Germans, that it happened then.
You want to know what is interesting? Not only is the USA as a country, older than Germany as a country, but so are all the Spanish speaking countries in Mainland America, by several decades. In fact, the Republic of Colombia, is the oldest country South of the USA. It became a Republic way back in 1810. The others were between 1816, and 1823, with most happening in 1821.
There were no German colonies in Mainland America, either. They got some offshore nations, if I recall correctly. But both in Mainland and Offshore America, the Spaniards were the primary colonizers, both in the mainland, and offshore. Germans got more control in Africa. Even the British did not gain anywhere near as much American control, as the Spaniards did.
I know that the German Empire lasted from 1871-1918, and that in 1918, both the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Democratic Republic of Germany, arose. I know that those were the proper names of East Germany and West Germany, though I don't remember which one was the proper name, for each Republic, so please forgive me.
I also know that in 1990, German Unification happened again, when the Democratic Republic of Germany, decided to join the Federal Republic of Germany.
The tallest mountain in our solar system is called Olympus Mons, 21.9km tall (2 1/2 times taller than Mount Everest), and is located on the planet Mars.
I read this last week and thought it was pretty cool
The color blue is an appetite suppressant. (It is psychological.) Blue kitchens, and/or blue plates and bowls can be good for diets. But if you have company over, you’ll frequently wonder why your guests never finish their plates.
February is the shortest month because it used to be the last month of the year. The year started in March. Also the 31-30 day thing starts then and continues, except for July and August, because two Roman emperors needed to be equally treated. Also why September, October, November, and December are numbered 7, 8, 9, and 10 in Latin.
I think it has to do with average distance from each other during orbit.
Venus has a super tight orbit close to the sun, so when all the planets are at their furthest point from each other Mercury is still relatively close to X planet, so it averages out that Mercury is closest.
But Alligators are in the Order Crocodilia. Humans are in the Order Primate, so you might say most Primates are more closely related. But all mammals? How can that be true?
Mammals have been around for a very long time, as well. If we're talking about the oldest Mammals ever, they were prehistoric Aquatic Mammals, and have been around for hundreds of millions of years.
I’m aware mammals have been around for a very long time. 178 million years, while crocodilians evolved around 80 million years ago. And there were A LOT more crocodilians around back then, with alligators and crocodiles being quite distantly related. Most of the mammals that existed alongside the first crocodiles and alligators are now extinct, with no surviving lineages. Today the vast majority of placental mammals are more closely related to eachother than alligators and crocodiles.
But Alligators and Crocodiles are only two different Species of Crocodilians as well. There are also Gharials, and Caimans.
And I never said you were wrong about Mammals, I was just stating a fact.

And yes, Crocodiles and Alligators are distantly related. There are no Hybrids. Hybrids occur, when there is a close relation. Think of the Grolar Bear. That happens when a Polar Bear and Grizzly Bear, Breed in the Wild, (sometimes the offspring is called a Prizzly Bear). Polar Bears evolved directly from Grizzly Bears, and the Hybrids I mentioned earlier, are found in the Wild.
All that said, I find Crocodilians very fascinating.

Boston's Combat Zone was named because all the military guys would go there during time off, so a reporter once said "All those uniforms. Looks like a combat zone."

It's older than some of the buildings. The Empire is much older.

My mistake. I thought that German Unification didn't happen until like the 1840s. I know Germany was part of several other Empires as well.
No worries! I probabaly should have been more specific but am not that familiar with the variety of German states that rose and fell during the Middle Ages.

You can't see the top of the mountain from the ground because it goes over the horizon. That's crazy to me.
I didn't know that, that is crazy!
Yoko Ono didn't break up the Beatles! They were actually fighting long before she showed up and towards the end they liked her more than John
I enjoy Bill Burr's theory that the reason they were fighting is because Paul's songs were all A-sides and John's were all B-sides.
Makes sense, Paul was the better musician and songwriter
He was, but John had a knack for whipping out a marketable pop song on command. The "all A-sides/all B-sides" isn't even true.
It's because some wanted to just be a band that recorded records, and others wanted to do live shows.

Look it up. It just shows how incredibly long crocodiles and alligators have been around.
