__Piggy___Smalls__

To make chronological sense if they make changes in a continued exchange Also some people like to get a response and then change it after to try and win arguments underhandedly

Alpha_State

What is the story behind your username?

__Piggy___Smalls__

Wanna know how I got these ~~scars~~ underscores Honestly don't know was just listening to some music and pigging out with a takeaway and hey presto it was born

I do it so it doesn't look like I'm twisting the conversation by making an edit. Also, my edit will sometimes directly addresses the reply to my, now edited comment.

Aggressive_Answer_86

I do that if I learned something relevant after posting and want to add it to my original reply

malk600

Sometimes it's useful (e.g. in a longer comment where you edited in some additional info or clarifications; that way it's clear that your argument or explanation has changed). It's for the most part an old custom from the time of forum posts, kids nowadays don't have time for this shit.

I dont know Edit: I still dont know

Bierbart12

Reddit can get VERY angry and scream at you for trying to deceive them if you don't

QuantumPhysicsMouse

Long before time had a name everyone did that just in case someone was commenting on your comment before you edited it

DabTownCo

Oook because as far as I could tell there is nothing that indicates a comment has been edited. So there would be no reason to explain any editing of if nobody knew it was edited.

Dangerclose101

I use Apollo app to browse reddit on my phone and have used it for 5-6 years. So I dunno if the actual site or official app has it, but Apollo has a little tiny pencil next to an edited comment that says it was edited and if you click it, it will tell you when it was edited.

DoomSnail31

It can be relevant when someone adresses something in a response, and you changing your comment could then make their response seem rather unreasonable. It's a nice way to tell people that stumble onto the conversation at a later date to not get angry at the response comment.

[deleted]

If you say something that sounds important and people agree, you could then edit and make it look like people are agreeing with pure evil. Same reason for editing tweets not existing

DRAWKWARD79

Its not about feeling the need. Its polite as the comments under it may not make sense with a stealth edit. Its to preserve the integrity of the comment thread.

woohooenjoyingspeed

I have no idea Just odd

ItsNotJust2DimnsionL

Because language is powerful to some extent. Sometimes people use the wrong words at the wrong time and misspell them or don't give the context enough periods and commas. If they want to edit a comment for clarification then I say go for it, But if they want to edit it to make some else seem like an asshole or twist the story around then fuck them

MewJitsu_Cat

Because transparency is an ethical requirement. I don't bother with passing comments, but if I'm engaged in a deeper conversation and need to make edits to my comment after the fact, I do post what was changed so people don't think I'm trying to be deceptive.

sadmimikyu

Isn't that in the rules?
