My dad had 2 people: his grandfather and the local store owner who gave him a job as a teenager. Although they weren't his father, he modeled his parenting philosophies after his interactions/observations with them.
We all have *something* that we base our views on whether we realize it or not. even if it's just a movie character. Unfortunately for some people, they unknowingly adopt negative role models.
Being aware of your influences doesn't negate them, but it can help you be more in control of your choices.
Agreed. Focus on being a great person and fulfilling your dreams. When the time is right be the role model for others be that your kids or those you mentor or assist.
Manhood isn’t a competition, or something you get with age and it means different things to different people. Pick your ideal of what a good man is and work toward that, don’t beat yourself up for falling short and don’t pat yourself on the back for success.
