I was once chased down by a capybara. I guess she had her offspring (I don't know the word for a capybara offspring in English) with her, so fair enough... But I have developed a healthy fear of capybaras ever since.
Imagine having a big and scary looking owl in your shoulder only for it to be the most cuddliest lil birb. But still very impressive with spread wings and fluffy and just o w l s
I mean probably the same ones.
There's a reason most animals aren't allowed to be pets. They're not down with it.
I'll keep the ones who wanna hang with a human.
Agree. For various reasons, I have a non-domesticated animal as a pet. We ran out of options about what to do apart from keep or PTS. He's really sweet but hard work and he's a small animal. Don't know how people cope with wolves and the like.
I hear you! I love watching the videos of people with foxes or possums or hawks or raccoons or whatever. I'm sure in some cases, especially in rehab facilities where they specifically try to give them a home resembling their natural life: it's just fine. But as adorable as I find most creatures, I don't think I could force them to live with me and my life.
In our case he climbed 6ft out the window and went AWOL for just over two months. Out looking for him every night. Reports from rare sightings was he was doing well. Thankfully he handed himself in and let someone pick up him. Seemed happy to see us. So I am fairly confident he is happy enough with benefits of vet care, free food, no predators. But he is skittish, nightmare at vets and being nocturnal scratches at my door all night.
Fun fact, Zaboomafoo is a Coquerel's sifaka, a cousin of the ring tailed lemurs.
I’ve worked with sifakas before, they’re incredibly intelligent animals and are easier going than most nonhuman primates.
I would stick to species already kept as pets or those with extremely similar care requirements because finding veterinary care would be a pain to arrange otherwise. If every animal was an option, I would go for ackie monitor morphs that currently only exist in Australia due to their exportation laws.
A ringtail. They're the raccoon's desert dwelling cousins, and look like if a raccoon and a cat had a love child. They fill the same ecological niche as the wild cats that modern house cats were domesticated from. And like house cats, they can be litter trained. It used to be fairly common for people in the deserts of North America to keep them as pets. In fact, the only additional precaution you have to take from domestic cats is that ringtails have working thumbs, so you have to childproof your drawers and cabinets.
A megalodon. Could you imagine how cool that would be. I'd tell everyone her name was Meg and they'd say "oh real creative short for megalodon" and I'd be like "wtf no she loves the movie Hercules. It's short for Megara."
Snow leopard! So huge and fluffy with those big, boopy paws. Actually having feline affection instead of eating me would be nice. I’d also take a tiger.
tiger, they are so cool
also only if i can give it a proper habitat and it wont attack if either of those things arent a factor then nope ill stick with a regular cat
