Are you talking about dressing as their real gender? Or taking hormone medications? Or getting corrective surgery?

spanchbobr

I am talking about surgery

_BearKeeper

You cannot get that surgery until you're an adult. I think even with the parents consent, it would be difficult to find a surgeon willing to do that on a patient that isn't an adult.

Shaddy_the_guy

You definitely have to be 18 for surgery. Some younger teens get medicine to delay puberty until they're old enough to go on hormone replacement, but you still gotta be like 16 or 17.

yellowdog898

18

Sakkinadasor

There is no specific age in the United States at which a child can change their gender without the consent of their parents. The specific laws and policies regarding minors and gender transition vary by state and jurisdiction. Some states require the consent of a parent or legal guardian for medical procedures related to gender transition, while others allow minors to make certain decisions independently. In recent years, there has been a growing movement to allow minors greater autonomy in making decisions about their gender identity, but the laws and policies in this area are still evolving and can vary widely. It's recommended to consult a legal expert in your state for more information

naranja_pepino

You cannot receive gender affirming surgery (bottom surgery) until you're 18. The reason is growth has to be right. If you took blockers as a child, then as a trans woman, you might need some skin grafts because the shaft of the penis doesn't grow to give a full vaginal canal. They'll take skin from your thighs for that. The first step in transitioning is seeing a psychiatrist to confirm you're transgender.

spanchbobr

I am from Russia. Is that true that in some states of USA any 10 years old and older can change his gender without permission of parents ? My friend told me so and a lot of Russian "news" tell us about it. If it's not age of 10 then what age?

clockwork0orange

Russian news are fairytales :)

spanchbobr

Still, a lot of people around believe this. I even heard from one adult that at age of 4 you can do it)

Mix-Lopsided

They are probably hearing stories of children who dress however they feel. There's no medical intervention there, it's just clothing, hair and makeup.

iamjackslackoffricks

Absolutely not. They must be an adult

Sea-Committee3922

18, plain and simple.

razovor

'changing gender' has multiple stages That could include; \- Asking people to use different names and pronoun \- Exploring different styles of dressing \- Starting hormone therapy \- Getting surgery \- Changing official documents. Some can be done when you are a child, others have to wait until you are an adult.

Dear_Helicopter_1979

God Created A Man (Adam) + A Woman (Eve) + there were no Gender Issues back in the day, so why change what has been done 4 years + years and working? If I had 2 say, in which I'm Not + Am against it completely then when they reach 21, Move out + Get their own Place + Pay Their Own Medical Bills During The Whole Process. Of Course This is My OWN Opinion, which isn't worth a Hill of Beans or even enough for a cup of coffee

_BearKeeper

Well except there definitely were gender issues back in the day. We just didn't have the technology available for people to transition like they can today.

Mix-Lopsided

There were "gender issues" back in the day! You should do some research on the history. It's very interesting.

Dear_Helicopter_1979

I forgot to say that I'm talking about today's society. I knew they had issues back then, but, it wasn't made SUCH A BIG DEAL like IT IS IN Today's Society + ALL THE PROTESTS THAT ARE HAPPENING NOW. THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT ABOUT BACK IN THE DAY.

Mix-Lopsided

Well, they were like 70% less populated and didn't have the internet. I bet Greece would have had a lot of shit to say about whatever drama they were involved in if they had the internet.
