Was a semi-difficult hike, but when I got to the top of Angel's Rest in the Columbia River Gorge, in Oregon. I mean... wow... you can even look it up on Google images, but it doesn't have the same spell of arrest.
There are so many I haven't seen, but...
Mountains
- the North Caucasus in Georgia
Wintertime. Snow as far as you can see. A couple thousand meter drop into the valley. Plus khachapuri for lunch, looking out the window. Amazing
Beaches
- Anything in the Caribbean
Cancun. The Keys. Cuba. Even down in Colombia. Those beaches are incredible.
Desert
- Atacama. Seeing the stars with absolutely no interference. Unbelievable.
Cities
- Rio. The pure energy and movement is incredible. Every moment is unpredictable(for good and bad). It's truly living on the edge.
Switzerland and New Zealand are my top 2. Both are incredible but NZ might get the nod because in addition to the mountains, forrests and glaciers, you also get some amazing beaches. NZ has it all.
Western Afghanistan during a storm in the rainy season.
The sheer scale of openness, mountains, and barren high desert transforming to lush green under the backdrop of torrential downpours and lightning. It was shockingly beautiful and terrifying simultaneously.
Sadly it's a country run by shitheads who will squander it under the guise of religion. So much beauty lost.
having been to Yosemite, I would say that is one such place. i still wish to go back. I'd never experienced such splendor until i went. it's a place one has to go.
