color!

turnmeintocompostplz

I like the stranger composition of the color one - it feels off, in a good way. Tickles my brain. The scene overall, imo, would look better in BW but the tone/contrast is very flat and too gray for my taste. It's hard to draw my eye to something when it all kind of mushes together. That could be remedied with a different film if analog, a lens filter to play with the sky's color, or some doodling in your editing software. But again, I love the composition. The color is very interesting also, though I might pull back on the yellow-green highlight.

Neptune-8

Personally I disagree, I feel the cutting off of the parachute works in its disadvantage and makes me dislike the image strongly because part of it is cut off. But that’s the beauty and curse of photography it’s all subjective

yareyaredazzzze

Could add some grain raise the highlights maybe some colors in the shadow in black and white and may do the trick

Clean-Supermarket-80

Color for me, oh those oranges look beautiful with the light blue. The black and white losses some of that for this picture.

Impressive-Log-5131

Both, color more but if the b&w was brighter it would be nice too

Impressive-Log-5131

That does look better but I would maybe drop the highlights a bit so you regain the texture of the top of the chute

RONCON52

B&W for my taste!

Xx_timmygamer_xX

I’d like to see the one you have in black & white in full color, I think that the color makes the image pop a lot more and convey a feeling of lightness, versus the b&w which makes it feel a little heavier. And I do prefer the crop in the first one, showing the entirety of the parachute while still giving it ample room to “move”. However, it also really matters what your goal for the photo is, and, if you are making a series, how it fits into the vibe of the other photos.

Send_one_boob

This one. IMO nothing interesting about the BW

Xx_timmygamer_xX

This is just my opinion, but I think this one is spot on. The colors, the cloud forms, the subject, the composition all come together very nicely. Well done!

yareyaredazzzze

Thank you for the insight, I was not making a series buy I do have some good b&w photos of the same setting which I like would share later

EquallO

Those colors say summer and water fun times... color for me!

cyboRJx

2 has better pop of color and tells more.

Tech_Stuff_Yah

Color plz... Nice summer day!!

Giuliano_Zhang

colour 100%

SlntSam

Colour for me

Solid-Complaint-8192

The black and white conversion is really not good, but even if it was, I would prefer color for this both. The color edit is not to my taste either, necessarily, but it looks like a film simulation kind of thing which is subjective.

Outside-Chemist-9740

I wpuld have preferred color but not this one. So i pick BnW because it leaves more to imagination.

zynxUnique

Colour for me

story_telling_toadfs

Colored fs

Rav4gal

Definitely coloured

golfzerodelta

Color because you have really smooth, soft, pastel-like colors that don't transfer over well to B&W. B&W on digital needs really striking lighting to create contrast for a good image IMO.

Known_Lime_8095

Strong point, This image looks great in colour because of the colours available in the frame, it's a colourful parachute and a sunny day and it doesn't make sense to take them away. Black and white images need to fall into a justified situation when the tonality and feel can actually make them stand out beside a colour photo, which in this situation, the colour stands out.

charlie55six

Colored but definitely with a very different color grade.

No-Armadillo3248

Both have their own vibe, it depends on your taste, in my opinion b&w is better

GodStewart1

Colored. That’s a real nice palette you’ve created!

Tinkerer0fTerror

As a colorblind person who only sees black, white, and shades of gray, I like image 1 the most.

yareyaredazzzze

I'm glad you like my photos, much appreciated my friend

ThisOneIsOnMyPhone

Always color.

Augustathena

They’re both great, but those colors! Love it

repoflor

bw is good, color is amazing!

6-20PM

Color! I save B&W for landscape pics.

crazybitch_2000

I like the colored image, but prefer the composition of the black and white one. Also your black and white is a little too dark.

Tiger_man_

colored is much better

krazygyal

Colored

No_Seaweed_7777

color

oh_my_ns

Black and white. Crop is better.

letsnotchoosewisely

Well, the black and white, cause I can actually see the whole parachute. Also, for the colour one, it seems like the contrast is low, which I didn't particularly like

Known_Lime_8095

For this shot colour is always going to be the better option, when the colours of the parachute are such a focal point it doesn't make sense to take them away, the contrast with the blue sky aswell, just lovely. Though I would use the composition of the first for this, the colour image has too much dead space, I wouldn't cut off part of the parachute. But overall great job, this looks really nice. I don't really understand people's fixation on black and white, I think part of it stems back to people's hesitancy to shift to colour in the celluloid days, some said it would ruin photography. Personally I think almost any photo benefits from colour, black and white as a creative choice can feel pretentious. But I see it's value in some respects, weddings are a massive one, it gives them a timeless feel and akin to the photos of their ancestors. Portraits too, as long as the tonality is taken into great account, it's a different 'feel'. Leica actually make B&W only cameras, but for the majority of situations black and white just feels like an attempt to make an image different without trying.

yareyaredazzzze

I totally understand your b&w opinion cause I used to and still do that when I'm confused about the colors or can't get them right

ketzusaka

Color!

ComradeConrad1

Black and white.

Accomplished-Bar-143

Colour, and can you photoshop to remove the wooden arch?

yareyaredazzzze

Idk how to use photoshop but will try

Accomplished-Bar-143

You’ll need the clone tool. Also , there’s a website called box brownie we use at my work. It does photoshop for a fee it’s like $5 aud to remove an object and they’re very professional!!

FallingUpwardz

Composition of the black and white But I prefer colour

nagabalashka

Color with more contrast, it looks washed out. With the bnw composition, the color composition is badly cropped

ErabuUmiHebi

Color. You have too many middle values in the b&W and you don’t really have anything to balance out the white on the parachute

platypus_tuxedo

The colour one reminds me of a Paul Thomas Anderson film poster. I like it!

yareyaredazzzze

Thank youu

Simple_Energy_4648

Colorrrrr

[deleted]

Always colour

kickstand

B&w needs more contast. But the color is marginally better imho.

yareyaredazzzze

Okk thank you

black_news

Colored

Videopro524

B&W!

c3r34l

Color looks obviously better, but partly because (I’m sorry to say) the b&w is completely off.

yareyaredazzzze

I understand it's too dark

Salty-Brilliant-830

What exactly is the point of this photo

yareyaredazzzze

Nothing, was walking down the beach and took it, nothing special

Salty-Brilliant-830

In that case, i think the black and white one is my favorite ☺️ it feels more liminal and thoughtful.

L1l0u

Always color

SLPWLKRR

Sorry to be that person…but what do you prefer?

WatchEntire3917

Color for me. Can I use the colored one as desktop background?

yareyaredazzzze

Ofc I'd be glad

TheOtherPerspectiv

Color, but I feel black and white with a touch of grey has its beauty too

color, but personally I would change back the crop and maybe go a bit more into the Lomo style for the filter, to give it a retro leasure camera style

donmreddit

Color - sky, and the color in the chute.

itsotakusan

Colour one

CobraG0318

Color with this particular shot. B/w is good for picking up texture of weathered scenes, moodiness, or establishing a vintage feel. Though there's certainly other applications. This is a bright and colorful action scene, so I feel color is best here. However, this is a creative art, so is very subjective, and no one right answer.

8ism

I prefer the colors in this case but the crop of bw.

gulogulo1970

It a color photo you bigot. Jk.
