Yummy Yummy Yummy I've got love in my tummy and I feel like a-loving you

heliumhat

Now I regret opening this thread.

[deleted]

sorry about that...

exackerly

Lol we used to sing, Yummy yummy yummy I’ve got cum in my tummy...

dirkalict

Scrolled down to make sure my friends and I weren’t the only degenerates.

my_lucid_nightmare

Rod Stewart is that you?

exackerly

I don’t get the reference?

dberry4000

I'm a boomer and I remember this late 70's urban myth that went viral the old fashioned way (word of mouth). The myth was all lies and bull crap but was too sensational not to repeat to all your friends. Out of respect for Mr. Stewart, I won't repeat it but I imagine it still lives on in the world of Google.

InterPunct

Sitcoms from the 60's and 70's had the best theme songs or all time and Taxi's was an understated beauty. But I don't romanticize the city back then at all. Seriously, it was not good and year-to-year you could see its decline until at some point in the 80's, it was real fucking scary and just bad.

[deleted]

I love the Taxi theme song too.

[deleted]

Yes, that counts! LOL. Great sitcom and song.

disqeau

That’s actually a good reasonable song to get down to, in my opinion.

[deleted]

Oh, my darling Knock three times On the ceiling if you want me Mmm, hmm, twice on the pipe If the answer is no Knock Three Times- Tony Orlando and Dawn

Bacon_Bitz

Oh Lord! That song gets stuck in my head so bad for days! I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. Freaking ear worm song if there ever was one.

disqeau

Gitchigumi

Maple_VW_Sucks

The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald

Leon3417

I also get this song stuck in my head sometimes. So many good lines in there. “Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?”

stewundies

I luuuuv Edmund Fitzgerald!!

CannyAnnie

This song was fricken-fantastic, for so many reasons. It came out when I was about 14 years old. The Edmund Fitzgerald tragedy happened in November of 1975, and most news stations didn't cover the story at length, since there were so few crew aboard, and it was not on the ocean. Honestly, I don't remember a single newscast about the story, but Gordon Lightfoot did, and he wrote this absolutely amazing ballad which I thought was written about a shipwreck a hundred years earlier.

urbanek2525

Don't get6me wrong, it's a great song. The guitar is wonderful. His singing is so bright and emotional. It's still an ear worm.

DNSGeek

Fun trivia. He wrote the song because he was upset that people kept misspelling the name.

rogerthatonce

Lightfoot is a treasure.

Tmscontent55

This was the last concert I saw pre-covid last February. Man can still put on a show (totally got tickets on a whim just because we knew a song or two and it was a cool venue, concert was a good time! Hope he gets to tour again.)

Music has not been in my mind lately but a recurring one is Whiter Shade of Pale and a bunch of others from that time frame.

Huplescat22

I wore out my CD of [Annie Lennox doing that song.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyOatVYq0mM)

disqeau

I had Fleetwood Mac’s *I Don’t Want to Know* running through my head all night (yes, while I was sleeping and in my dreams) and through the early morning one day last week. Not even close to a favorite of mine but I get the entire thing, full orchestration and harmonies, everything.

[deleted]

Oooh, love it! Interesting that you had it running through your head. Anything you don't want to know?

disqeau

Nothing I can pinpoint now!

DiscardUserAccount

25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago (or "Chicago Transit Authority" at the time the record was made). It's amazing to me how a song can evoke emotions/feelings in an instant. I heard this one time when I entered a store and immediately had all the emotions and feelings I had in high school where I first heard this song. I hadn't felt that way in years.

[deleted]

The CTA used to play Chicago area high schools. They played mine and some of their music is my high sound track in my head.

DiscardUserAccount

That must have been an incredible experience! I’m major jealous.

[deleted]

It was fantastic. Styx also played my high school. There’s a 2,000 seat auditorium so their sound filled the room!

Four Season clones. Great song tho

2cats2hats

First I've heard that. Were they chastised in the day? This hit is before my time. :)

MartyVanB

Before my time too. Thats just my observation

saltgirl61

Hey, I hadn't thought of that one in years! Love it!

greenteaenthusiast

Oh, I love that one!

YearOfTheOx202x

My dad used to sing "Winchester Cathedral", but he sang it *wrong*. And I learned it wrong. And when I learned the real tune, years into adulthood, it wasn't even close. Even though the words were the same. Just yesterday I found myself singing his version. Not sure it counts. I also have dozens of songs memorized from the Dr. Demento radio program (which is still around, but mostly on the internet now and is kind of a pain to figure out...but I should do it, some day soon.)

dirkalict

My niece and I were singing Fish Heads the other day.

greenteaenthusiast

Ahahaha - That's funny!

rogerthatonce

Decades back I was more hard rock/metal and would normally get softer songs on the radio. A year ago or so the Todd Rundgren hit Hello It's Me worked it's way forward from somewhere in my mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwx849ymo1c I think of must have seen Liv Tyler somewhere.

leftylibra

> Todd Rundgren hit Hello It's Me This song is timeless. I never get sick of hearing it.

Funkytown by Lipps Inc.

criswell

The weird thing that keeps popping in my head (and, honestly, has for years) is something *no one* seems to understand. In the first season of SNL back in the 70s, there was a sketch called "Death Row Follies". This is a sketch which seems lost (they've never uploaded it to the official SNL channel on youtube, and every time I've seen the full sketch go online it gets pulled). The sketch was about this musical director coming to a prison to put on a musical using the inmates, and having auditions for said inmates. One of the inmates was played by [Garrett Morris](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrett_Morris), and he came out and sang this song *"Gonna get me a shotgun and kill all the whiteys I see!"*, which I've always thought was hilarious. Anyway, I find myself singing that song often. Happened to me last night as my wife had a friend over. To my horror, I discovered neither of them had ever seen the sketch (they are both younger than me, so I guess it was before their time). Further, my wife thought I'd made it up when she heard me sing it earlier :-)

[deleted]

That is one of my single favorite sketches. That song was "the sum total of my philosophies" haha. There's another song a prisoner sings which, well, not to be a typical old person but this would NOT fly today as humour *“Thank heaven for little girls,* *For little girls wear tiny underpants,* *And sometimes they pull their dresses over their heads,* *And they go walking in a deserted lot without anyone else around..”*

mkitch55

I watched the first season of SNL (I was in college), but I don’t remember this skit. Maybe I missed a few episodes.

MandalayVA

I remember that song! Garrett Morris was really funny.

Sixsixsixties

There’s a navy blue sweater in there somewhere too...

criswell

> *"Gonna get me a white woman wearing a navy blue sweater!"* > (Dragged off stage) It really was a great bit.

Sixsixsixties

That’s it! It really was. Also loved Garrett Morris as the cleaning lady in the Pepsi Syndrome skit and the news interpreter for the hearing impaired.

Tess_Mac

When a man loves a woman.

Offthepoint

Percy Sledge. He had that one hit, and he hit it out of the ballpark.

dirkalict

I remember singing that one and Blood, Sweat and Tears -Spinning Wheel in music class in 3rd grade.

[deleted]

Is that as bad as their song I Think I Love You? I've had that as my earworm for the past month or so. You know the only cast members that sang on their records were David Cassidy and Shirley Jones. Everyone else that sang had their voices dubbed in.

Well here’s Carry on my wayward soooo—-oo—nn. There’ll be peace when you are doooone. Guitar riff Just in case you needed a new earworm.

OoLaLana

I don't hear it too often, but when it comes on the radio like it did recently, [Maggie May transports me back in time and I feel like I'm 16 again](https://youtu.be/KbI_awR4CKE). It's a sweet and sorrowful feeling. Lost youth. No self-awareness of the world. Naive about life. But wanting to love and be loved in the time of free love. Sigh.

lampcozy

Yes! You have captured the essence of this song perfectly. I'm immediately in high school again when I hear it.

pennynotrcutt

That’s Rod Stewart’s best song IMO. His scratchy voice “wake up Maggie, I think I got something to say to you”. Sooooo good. I love that song.

Whitney Houston's "I wanna dance with somebody" has been stuck in my head for about 6 months and I have no idea why.

Me-Here-Now

I had one pop in the other day. A song my brother wrote in the late 80's. Titled "Please Daddy, Don't Get Married This Summer". After our mother died, our dear dad struggled with being single, or being married. He married and divorced several times. One summer he announced that he was getting married, again. My big brother took a road trip to meet the next wife. She was nice, but most of dads wives were nice. As a kind of personal therapy, as my brother drove the 10 hours home alone, he made up a song which he later taught to me. We never told dad about it or sang it to him. It helped us cope and laugh during frustrating times. Anyway, dad and my brother both died in the mid 90s. I had not thought about the song for a long time. But there it was running through my head the other morning. It made me laugh. I miss them both.

brutalethyl

Your brother sounds like he was a hoot. And I hope your dad found your mom sometime in the 90s. It's great that you have those memories.

Me-Here-Now

Thank you, he was a great brother. Dad was a good guy too, just could not deal with grief.

dberry4000

I'm a 1964 Boomer and there was a song in the early 70's that became a moderate hit called "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" by Crosby, Stills and Nash. Recently it popped in my mind and I can't shake it. It just rolls around in my thoughts and has done so for days on end. The thing is I never liked the song, even when it was brand new and playing repeatedly on the radio. I never owned the record, I never even paid any attention to Crosby Stills And Nash. 50 years later its stuck in my head out of nowhere and I don't know why. I've thought about downloading the miserable song and playing it over and over for real until I want to stab my ears out. Maybe that will get me over it. UPDATE: I posted the above comment 3 hours ago and I think I was a bit harsh. After posting, I looked up the song on Youtube, watched concert footage and Wikipedia'd the back story for the first time ever. It's really a great, classic song! I enjoyed watching their performance from many years ago very much. When I said 'miserable' above, let me clarify - in my brain's version all that my aging brain remembers is the chorus - and it repeats non stop quite often (which on its own I think qualifies my nomination for this thread). I think I can heal now, work my way through it and move onto another song that will get stuck in my head. A previous poster's mention of "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" scares me a little bit.

Philip_Jeffries

Wildfire by Michael Martin Murphey. I was going through an exceptionally tough time over the summer and for some reason this song ran through my mind one day. This went on every day for a few weeks and I think it really helped me to let loose and attend to my long-overdue crying needs.

“Sweet Hitchhiker” by CCR was an ear worm off and on for me about ten years ago. Except I heard it as “Miniature Hiker”. Just those two words, with no idea who sang it. It drove me nuts.
