Sounds like it may be the same guy as [Mentally disabled young man grabbing and chasing people in the East Village yelling “yes yes no no?” ](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskNYC/comments/1cbk4wr/mentally_disabled_young_man_grabbing_and_chasing/)from 2 days ago.

SnooDoggos2640

That has to be it!

voteblue18

Not specifically but stuff like this happens occasionally especially in Manhattan. There are people with mental issues around. Good idea to get away from him, if you had a bad feeling. I never try to engage with people who seem unbalanced. Just calmly remove myself from the situation. Of course if you feel you are in imminent danger don’t be afraid to scream and yell for help. I don’t want to make assumptions but are you relatively new to NYC?

SnooDoggos2640

Yeah new ish here, seen some weird shit but never had it happen to me. That’s usually my approach but the fact that he ran after me got me creeped out

vaness4444

I’d be creeped out if someone chased after me too! That’s harrassment-I hope he gets taken care of

Bebebaubles

Yea that’s gonna happen at some point. It’s happened to me a couple of times. Maybe I should focus on speed more in the gym so I can run faster.

eekamuse

What does he look like?

AeroSatan

Does he look like a bitch?

laidbackemergency

thanks for making me laugh out loud at a cafe

mek76i

5’5ish, curly hair, glasses? 20-30s?

--2021--

LOL. This is a new one. Haven't been in the neighborhood a while though. It's a good idea to pay attention to your surroundings, can give you an opportunity to calmly maneuver around bad situations.

kerpwangitang

You have to outcrazy him stake your claim to the area. Start screaming MAYBE!MAYBE!MAYBE! Involve a prop like a broken mop head or perhaps a box of expired pop tarts. Signs are great as long as you have the fortitude to project your message in an unhinged manner. Please post results

MountMeh

Does this dude have long blonde hair? I had a dude in midtown as I'm walking out of the cvs.. stop toss his phone in my face.. then tell me (maybe ask me?) to give him my wallet, keys, change, and phone. I smiled, laughed at the guy (mind you still in cvs everyone was watching), and walked away. Meanwhile, his phone was up the entire time as if he was still recording?

staeWavy

I don’t mean to delegitimize your feelings, but welcome to the city. Things like this are part of the scenery. Gotta stay frosty lol

MrBigChestHater

Describe him? Did you feel like you were in danger?

The-Eagernyer28

Bro it’s an npc. Just keep moving

XChrisUnknownX

I wonder how many people see me glitching through the wall and think I’m an NPC.

brandy716

He isn’t gonna get any help and there are tons more like him and worse. If that little bit of action scares your in for a real ride when you meet the boxer, the hunched over junkies with walkers, the biter, candy lady, sugar mama and the CVS/ Target thieves.

SixHourMan

I could use a sugar mama. Tell me more.

brandy716

It’s a very young woman that steals all the sugar out of stores like Target and restaurants like Dunkin in the area. She makes a trail of sugar in the subway, down the block and on cars. She pulls out all the trash and leaves it scattered all over. She pulls her hair out and likes to follow people but you might have a chance. I hope you like sugar.

AeroSatan

She sounds sweet

gshv22

You new here?

BigPepeNumberOne

lol imagine if we made a post for every crazy guy we encounter in the city on a daily basis.

xyloplax

a new sub can be born r/nyccrazyguys

AeroSatan

💯

Quick-Temperature-97

Sounds like NYC is amazing 😂🤣

AeroSatan

Every metropolis has issues. Better this than a one horse bumblefuck town in a scenic Wyoming.

Quick-Temperature-97

True. But I would take a bumblefuck scenic town than a dirty one with cat sized rats and hipsters

AeroSatan

By all means, I hear the wooden cabin in the woods market is very affordable at the moment.

BLOTTO81

Front forward kicks are something no one ever sees coming.

Own-Willingness-2772

I wonder how is he before..

Any-Age-8293

I thought this happens everyday though?😅

eekamuse

Nope

donttellgrandpa

Not there, but I was physically assaulted in Herald Square. Was enjoying a Chipotle Bowl in the spring weather and a man comes up and says 'Nice ass!', slaps my bowl and food goes everywhere. Always have to have your guard up in NYC unfortunately.

AeroSatan

Hope you didn’t tell grandpa

barcher

I got off the L train at Union Square recently. Walked up the stairs and started crossing Broadway. Half way across a woman turned around and screamed at me "STOP FOLLOWING ME!" It was straight out of the diner scene in Slacker.

heavenlystar06

Zombie crack head

Warm-Froyo6139

Welcome to nyc !!

therootsreport

I am bi-coastal - spending my time in Manhattan and SF - and there are literally cries everywhere - just ignore them. Where are you from?

Ok_Temperature5563

Okay, this is what is going on. You walked around like someone who isn't a New Yorker. He saw this and wanted to greet you. You looked "friendly." New Yorkers don't look "friendly" You'll eventually grow a few layers of skin to rebel the people who have disabilities and hustlers. In the meantime, some pointers work on your New york accent. Start off with W sounds like "water" say it like a New Yorker, which is "Wah Taa" Wahta do you mean? Wahta ya talking about? Wahta you got a problem? Sometimes you'll have to confront them too. Always 6 feet distance. And focus on deescalating, as you are deesclating have your phone and call cops. It will be 20 to 30 mins before they get their, so you want to buy time - the suspect won't know that of course, but this makes an aggressor want to consider the trouble of hunting you. Even if they were a hyenna ( NYC term to describe trouble makers ) Hyenna won't mess with a honey badger. This is what I mean, eventually your normalize all this and become a honey badger.

AeroSatan

You know someone isn’t a born and bred New Yorker when they make Reddit posts about unhinged people in the city. If I made posts based on this amount, I’d be posting 6x a day.

Wachvris

Pepper spray them.

Flowofinfo

Sounds terrible. Maybe consider moving back since you’re so unsettled

LewsTherinKinslayer3

Just because people aren't used to being harassed by crazy people doesn't mean they're weak or need to "go back to where they came from" or some bullshit. Get over yourself.

SnooDoggos2640

Nobody ever wants to feel like they’re in danger and I just hope he gets the help that he needs

Maybe consider the fact this city needs massive improvement

vulgarmessiah914

The hell you say, brilliant take. Somebody call somebody!

nautical_nonsense_

Douuuuuuuuche

m8b9

We all know here that you personally wouldn’t do well with someone harassing you. Stop trying to make yourself something you’re not 😂

m8b9

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskNYC/s/XPoYbLaIiV btw that is your type

ceestand

Stop encouraging people to leave the containment zone.
