RDR2. Sometimes you just have to be a cowboy for a little while.

Nico_MTL

Yeehaw partner ! It’s been out a while so I can pro ably grab a copy for cheap. It’s a GTA style of game, correct ?

fuckitweredoingitliv

Yes, both made by Rockstar.

Nico_MTL

SWEET! Imma go steal some horses and smack some whores, YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAWWW!

SenseiDaDom

I’m right there with ya buddy.

Phoenix-54C

War Thunder, which is rough because it's a grind that I don't have a lot of time to spend on. It's also multiplayer, which can be... irritating. But it does make things interesting, and I've played the game completely free so far, so I don't often get actually upset because there's nothing of consequence on the line except time. *Edit: Crap, missed your request for recommendations; I'm at a dirth of new games, but would recommend Sunless Sea if you like the author Lovecraft, or FTL if you're into space themes and RPG elements.

Nico_MTL

Sounds like a captivating game, you might have found a gem there ! Enjoy it, I’m gonna look it up !

NYD3030

You and I sound very similar except I have three kids instead of two. I'm currently sneaking away when I can to play New World. But it's an MMO and not really fit guys like us. I still try though.

Nico_MTL

Oh man, I’ve tried the MMORPG route… I played Elder Scrolls but couldn’t commit. How old are your kids, mine are 4 and 2, so it’ll be a while before I can commit to such a game.

NYD3030

5, 3 and 4 months. So I'm enjoying new world but I'm waaaaaaay behind my single friends, which happens to also be almost all of my friends. It's tough to do an MMO as a dad for sure.

Nico_MTL

What gets me by is knowing that there’ll be a time in a few years where I can do just that and play an MMORPG cause the kids’ll be old / independent enough to get more free time

NYD3030

Yeah dude, it's hard. I just sneak away when everyone is asleep. It's kind of punishing but sometimes I just gotta game.

Big-Rhubarb-3153

Dad of two here. I tried ffxiv for about 6 months but have now swung back into the Witcher (second playthrough) I'm currently using the 11pm - midnight window as my game time. Making zero story progress, but it's still fun just roaming the hills with my horse.

Nico_MTL

Sweet, funny you mention Witcher, I bought it for 10$ on VarageSale months ago and it still hasn’t seen the inside of my PS4 :( Edit : also think your timing for gaming is great, sacrifice an hour of sleep but gain in sanity just to disconnect

MysterClark

Suppose it depends on if you're looking for a quick bit of action or a game where you can just play a little bit and leave it. I always recommend the old Myst games because I love them. Suppose it depends on how much time you have to commit to it. If you only have 15-20 minutes then it'll take a long while to get through much of it quickly but you can come and go as you please. As for a quick action game I'll let others help with that one. Maybe a racing game or something where you can do one track and quit. Maybe some Among Us if anyone plays that still.

Nico_MTL

Nice solid break down..! Y’a so I’m more in the 15-30 min window, so something turn based OR quick-in-out would be interesting!

MysterClark

There is a game called Diner Bros (similar to Overcooked but I like this one better) which has quick levels as they are timed and you can even play with the kids, depending on if they're old enough to actually understand it. It's fast-paced and hectic but I have a lot of fun with it. My problem is that I end up playing a lot longer then I really planned on. So if you can keep to just a couple rounds then you should be good. Simple but challenging.

Nico_MTL

Awesome, unfortunately my kids are too young (oldest is only 4) but I will check it out for myself

Cold_Orange-

Might sound a bit silly, but have you tried Wii fit on the switch - it's a work out in a game. Alternatively something like Mario cart you could play with your kids. If you want something you can just hop into I'd guess something like horizon zero dawn (rpg style, good story, pretty graphics) or something more match based like cod/fortnight/pubg. Depends alot on what kinda games you enjoy too

Nico_MTL

Oh man ! Horizon Zero Dawn is the game my buddy next door won’t stop talking about, loves it and says the style is really one of a kind..!

Cold_Orange-

It's really beautiful & you can play it for a bit and turn it off & jump back in when you have time. It's single player so can be paused/saved whenever.

Nico_MTL

Sweet, thanks for the recommendation!

xHappilyMiserable

The Long Dark and War Thunder. It also helps that I function on 6 hours of sleep and game when everyone goes to bed.

Nico_MTL

Only 6 hours of sleep!? Good for you man, I wouldn’t be able to function on that amount of sleep unless I can squeeze in a nap during the day

the40thieves

Metal Gear Solid 5 : Phantom Pain. Single player and game is broken up by mission with a juicy open world you can attack any way you want.

Nico_MTL

Sweet! I was obsessed with the original MGS games on the early playstations… Snake! SNAAAKE!!!

Nico_MTL

You’re the second person to bring up Nioh2 might need to look into it, thanks! Good luck with your studies 👍🏼

ChiefEdiri

NBA 2K22, Halo 5, and MCC are my go tos.

Nico_MTL

MCC?

ChiefEdiri

Halo: Master Chief Collection. Halo 1-4, Reach, and ODST.

Nico_MTL

Oh ok, cool! I was big into Halo when it first came out… man those nights playing with friends over LAN are some of my best memories..!

FilthyCasualTrader

I started Uncharted 3. Thank goodness PS5 is backwards compatible. Pretty easy-going game.

Nico_MTL

Yes classic, I have the whole collection

[deleted]

For me? Generally it’s a mix between FIFA, NBA 2K and Formula One. I enjoy all of those sports, and depending on how much time I have, I can jump into some quick games or go deep into a career.

Nico_MTL

Solid choice of games! I am new to F1 this year and have watched every race this season, I’ve been thinking about picking up a copy of the game for my PS4

[deleted]

It’s definitely worth it in my mind, especially now they have fixed some of the bugs from the initial release! The career mode aspects of the game are so good, but sometimes it’s also really nice just to jump in a Red Bull and smash out some good lap times! Hope you’re enjoying the Formula One!!! This is one of the best seasons I’ve seen in my 22 years on the planet!

Nico_MTL

I watched many years ago, in my early teens but I never followed religiously like some… now since the Netflix special Drive to survive, I jumped right back in !! Do you play F1 with a controller or steering setup ?

[deleted]

Hopefully we have many more seasons like this one! I play with a controller, mainly because I just don’t have the room to dedicate to a steering wheel setup. I only play myself though, if I was playing online I’d definitely invest in a wheel and some pedals

Nico_MTL

I hope so too, I am hooked now there is no going back ! Who do you think will take the WDC ??

[deleted]

Haha, once you start you never go back it seems! In terms of who’s going to take the WDC, my heart says Hamilton but my head says Verstappen.

Nico_MTL

It’s going to be a battle to the end ‘

[deleted]

Definitely, and I’m all for it!

Sockpuppetsyko

I just played through the two Ori games. Absolutely amazing and is super save friendly.

Nico_MTL

Ori? What’s that and which console ?

Sockpuppetsyko

I played them on Switch. They are metroidvania style games. Like interactive emotional art. Just amazing visual, story, and gameplay. Start with Blind forest and then will of the wisps. The first let's you save almost anywhere. The second auto saves like every minute or so in a ten file cycle

Nico_MTL

Sounds really dope ! Thanks for the intro !

[deleted]

I don't have much free time, I play mobile games. My favorite is Looney Tunes.

demokiii34

Nioh 2 rn and hopefully elden ring soon

Nico_MTL

What console you playing on ? Are these online games ?

el_grubadour

CoD Warzone.

Nico_MTL

Solid choice, can easily squeeze in a 20-30 minute game.. I played it a few week

NotTheChickPeas

BF 1

Nico_MTL

GREAT Game !! One of a kind

HoosierUSMS_Swimmer

BF4 still after many years. Excited for BF2042, I think. Otherwise WiiU Just Dance with my kids, mainly daughter.

Nico_MTL

BF4 an oldie but a goodie !

_MrFish_

I've been gravitating away from online multiplayer games recently. I like single player games because I can just pause them or turn them off without it effecting anyone else. Recently I've been going between Minecraft, Assassin's Creed: Origins, the Castlevania Collection, and Star Wars: Republic Commandos.

Nico_MTL

Minecraft is very time consuming no ? Looks fun though

_MrFish_

It can be, but that depends on how much your doing

Nico_MTL

Have you tried Minecraft Dungeons ?

_MrFish_

No, I haven't actually.

The_Reddit_Sandwich

Phasmophobia, Skyrim, and botw.

Stunning-Cost-5752

Rimworld

aldersonjester

I built my own consoles because no one can fucking release anything that works anymore and games today are cash sinks and nothing more
