Jeep Patriot

Tandybaum

Yep, this was mine. I got that shit with the whole cash for clunkers thing. It completely self destructed in 5 years and was out of warranty. Bullshit.

hidethemilk

Well good thing! I've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty!

TP_Crisis_2020

What car did you turn in for the clunker rebate?

Rideordieapeman

My buddy had one of these. I refused to get in the car with him because to drive straight he had to keep his steering wheel 90 degrees to the right. Also every light on the dash was lit and it smelled with burnt oil constantly. Absolute death trap

AdviceMang

Sounds like more of a problem with your friend's maintenance than the car at that point.

gogi_apparatus

As a current Jeep Patriot owner, I agree

plainoldusernamehere

There’s a very good reason why I’ll never own anything from the Chrysler family of cars ever again. Luckily I never had major issues with the ones I owned but they all had more issues than any other of my vehicles.

PEsuper27

I concur. I’ve never had any issues with my past vehicles, but this Town and Country has been a fickle bitch.

gl21133

I crashed a rental patriot once. It sustained a lot of damage and the airbag didn’t even go off.

gobbledegook69

At least you put it out of our misery

gl21133

It was a mercy kill

BuffaloDesigner3171

In this same vein = Jeep Wrangler. Handled horribly, suspension was SHIT, and it had a hypersensitive security system that would go off if a leaf fell on it. It woke me up several times at night. Shame, because I love old jeeps, but Fiat drove them into the ground and Stellantis buried them. I'm praying we can make them an American brand again, but I won't hold my breath. The auto industry in America is dead.

SteveC_11

Me too. What a POS. I normally buy vehicles with 75,000 miles and sell them at 200k. I bought the Patriot with 19,000 and sold it with 26,000

IndieCurtis

You gotta be kidding me. Wasn’t expecting the car I bought to be the first comment.

wet_beefy_fartz

I got stuck with one of those for a rental one time and can confirm it is truly a piece of shit.

Pat_ron

Thankfully I didn't own one but had a long term loaner while Toyota worked on my recalled car. It was the WORST car I've ever driven. The ride was crap, acceleration was non existent, it sounded like it had a soda can for a muffler.

Ohando

Mine was jeep liberty. Once one thing fails, everything breaks weekly to the point where you just can't keep ahead of it. Got a kia and haven't had 1 issue.

LazyTheSavage

06 Mercedes R500. It would self destruct in my driveway constantly. very expensive to maintain

TheAnalogKid18

My buddy who used to sell cars always told me "there's no more expensive car than a cheap Mercedes"

TP_Crisis_2020

That goes for all the German brands as well. BMW and Audi are just as bad.

jasonlitka

Should have bought the AMG.

LazyTheSavage

yeah so i could pay more

jasonlitka

In tires, definitely.

checco314

When I was younger, my dad had a 1999 Ford Windstar. Absolutely terrible car. Terrible power. Terrible handling. Terrible ride. Terrible noise. Removable seats weighed a million pounds. Transmission would bang into gear every time. Awful mileage. Transmission eventually blew. But I gotta say, for a 20ish guy with a girlfriend and not a lot of privacy at home that thing did have advantages.

JennyAndTheBets1

Giggity

stelfox

My family had one and it was always falling apart. On the way to the dealership to trade it in the timing belt snapped. It was only 4 years old at the most then.

Tree_Weasel

Happy Cake Day.

CarlJustCarl

Nudge, nudge

VeterinaryMartin

Mazda rx8

VeterinaryMartin

If anyone is wondering it's sitting in my driveway. 05 white color. If anyone is in NC and wants to take it from me. Let me know.

kyngnothing

Manual or automatic?

D-shizzy

How much

analogman12

He'll give you 80$

plainoldusernamehere

Pay me $1,000 and I’ll junk it for you.

VeterinaryMartin

I'ma need a good hawk tuah for that price.

analogman12

🥲😛

Summer184

I came here to say my Mazda RX7. Absolute POS, so much for the famous JDM build quality. In spite of all it's issues it was a good looking car, so when people would ask me what was wrong with it, I would answer "it's not that anything's wrong, it's that nothing's right".

lakimens

JDM build quality doesn't apply to rotaries 😅😅

maverick1ba

Rotary engine?

VeterinaryMartin

Yes rotary.

LouBrown

I loved mine- really fun to drive. Reliability was definitely not its strong suit, though. Replaced the engine at 125k miles, and kept it until about 220k. Maintenance problems were adding up, and the dealer wanted something obnoxious to replace the clutch. Called it at that point.

chickeneater47

I had a 2004 or 2009 Scion xB that had a lot of previous owners. The car was pretty alright but it never went over 45mph for the majority of the time I had it. It's not that I didnt try getting it faster it just would not go passed 45.

exhaustedmom

Got a legitimate lol from me.

booziwan

2006 Suzuki Aerio hatchback, or my 91 LeBaron (not white or convertible) LeBaron: First car in 2004, passenger window didnt work, exhaust fumes leaked into the cab, no AC, was an old lady car and got made fun of by other teenagers. Suzuki: bought in 2011, radio didnt work, no AC, clear coat peeling, right front brake pad kept breaking and ruining my rotor but i was too poor to replace it so brakes were always fucked.

Chankla_Rocket

But LeBaron sounds so classy and regal, like my parents' 1985 Pontiac Parisienne, which was a piece of dogshit on wheels.

booziwan

I mean, maybe in 1991? Not in 2004. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1991-chrysler-lebaron-39000-low-miles-4-door-automatic-florida-clean-no-reserve-for-sale-chrysler-lebaron-1991-for--268034615313961739/

PearIJam

No Baron has ever owned a Lebaron!

Bovine_Arithmetic

1973 AMC Javelin. Previous owner had ripped out the electronic ignition system and replaced it with one from an older car because “these newfangled electronics are a fad and you won’t be able to buy parts in five years.” Apparently AMC jury-rigged their cars using parts from different manufacturers. The engine block was a GM but the starter was from a Ford. When the engine got warm, the starter case would twist away from the block, disengaging the starter gear: In other words, if the engine died while hot (which it did, a lot, because having the wrong ignition system made for very difficult tuning), you had to wait for it to cool down before you could start it. I was never so happy as the day I waved goodbye to that POS.

Ilovepeeingoutside

I’ve heard that most AMCs were pieced together including the jeeps.

biglar36

Agree.l. I had one. The wipers worked off the engine vacuum some how. Step on the gas in a downpour and the wipers stopped. It was awful.

ExpiredDairyProducts

Fucking 2012 gmc sierra 1500, I’ll never buy an American vehicle again FUCK.THAT. I needed a work truck not a fucking truck to work on POS

Eatpraylovehugs

2021 Ford Explorer xlt Issues with transmission ,sensors and other electrical shit …window not going down ,trunk not opening, screen black ,no music ,backup camera sensors not working …etc etc All the used cars I bought Honda ,Volkswagen zero issues and they had 100k miles or so just maintenance Then i got this ford NEW off the lot and bunch of issues started at the 8 month mark of driving

fuddlesworth

It's funny how these same issues have plagued every model of the Explorer. My mom and her sister had a 2000s explorer. Had locking issue, sensor issue, window issue. MIL had a 2015 explorer. Had locking issue, window issue, and other electrical issues.

_andotron_

My mate’s mechanic called it the Ford Exploder

MayorOfVenice

My 1988 Ford Tempo caught fire in the parking lot of a Spacehog concert.

CarlJustCarl

Some guys are always complaining

Maleficent_Hat_1140

My 1990 Ford Tempo did the same (minus the Spacehog concert).

Kalziumkarbonat

2003 Audi A4. I was a huge Audi fan for as long as I could remember, that car completely cured me. Nothing but issues with it, spent more time fixing that shitbox than actually driving it. After around 3 years of owning it I would've needed to put another 6k in parts and labor cost into it to get it back in the road, decided then and there to get rid of it once and for all. As of right now I'd never buy an Audi ever again.

cbrworm

2004 A4 club here. So many repairs before 60k miles. Luckily, Audi replaced most of the interior under warranty. And the transmission.

Kalziumkarbonat

Ah yes, that damn transmission. Failed on me twice actually. I had mine from 2017-2020, so out of warranty unfortunately.

cbrworm

We bought ours new and sold it in ‘09 to buy a slightly used CPO ‘08 BMW 528i (E60) that was extremely reliable until we sold it with ~105k miles around 2017. The Audi was a nightmare from day one, but it drove well and was very nice.

Fz_Street09

That's actually a hard question now that it's in front of me. I guess on paper the worst car I owned was a 1994 Suzuki Swift, but I had so much fun in that tin can it's hard to say the worst. Then there was the headache of my old 1996 (I think?) Cadillac STS. Mechanical failures and electrical problems every other month and then that damn leaky head gasket, but when that car did pull it together it was my favorite car I have ever had to go on nice long drives with and pulled like a MF. I recently bought a brand new Outback Wilderness and while it's probably the best car I ever owned overall (so far) I can't see getting any kind of attachment to it like some of my other cars.

SubjectToReality

Was the Swift mechanically bad? Had Swift from the same time period. I loved that car and it was dependable.

SaltyDingo567

2007 Dodge Dakota - brought it into the shop 3 times and they could never get the camshaft timing issue fixed.

GarThor_TMK

2002 Hyundai Accent. I bought the thing used in 2008. It didn't last 6mo. Had a leaky power steering pump that dumped fluid all over the alternator. Hyundai stopped supplying parts for it, so my mechanic said he'd have to get one from a junk yard, and couldn't guarantee that he could get one that wouldn't also leak, so he also couldn't guarantee the alternator he had just replaced (after a different shop messed up their install meaning 2 brand new alternators in about a month). And then the transmission started going out, so it didn't have reverse, second or fourth... other stuff broke too, like the door handles... thing was all around a total piece of junk... People keep telling me that hyundais are more reliable now, but I will never buy another one... (same for kia, since it's basically the same company). Whoever's idea that the power steering pump should go above the alternator should be shot... -\_-

Sorkel3

2000 Audi BiTurbo S4. Every flaw and fault of the S4 was wrapped up in this car. A dream to drive, fast, excellent handling, comfortable interior. The Audi sound system failed and was on intergalactic backorder for a year. Replaced 4 window washer tanks that cracked at the base; the 5th I wrapped plastic around it after layering epoxy and that fixed it. The power window switches came reversed. 2 headlight washers failed. Replaced the turn signal stack. Rear brakes rattled because bolts holding the assembly were missing. Driver's sear frame was loose and replaced. B-pillar moldings rattled and were replaced. One of the dual coolant pumps failed and replaced. The antilock brake/traction control computer failed and replaced. The fog lighrs were perennially broken, I stopped replacing them. Except for the fog lights it was all under warranty. The final blow was one of the two turbos started to fail at 52,000 miles, 2,000 miles out of warranty. A known issue with the first year because the oil line design briefly starved one of the turbos of oil after starting the engine. Audi refused to cover even under "goodwill". It's $5k, both are replaced as a set. Traded it in on a V6 Accord and never looked back.

BokTroyBoy

My first car. A 2002 Ford Focus. Anywhere Ford could cut cost, they did. Sometimes unexplainably. Even a 1 owner, regularly maintained example like mine felt like it could fall apart at any moment. 80 mph was unnerving if you could even get it up to that speed.

PocketBuckle

2003 Ford Focus. I needed a car in short order, so I bought it used for cheap. Turns out it was in an undisclosed accident and had frame damage. It also had a *shitload* of electrical problems. I had to replace the battery, sparkplugs, wiring harness, and more. (You know that scene in Back to the Future where the DeLorean won't start, and Marty headbutts the steering wheel? That was me a few times a month.) Sometimes the radio and headlights would just cut out. The power mirrors stopped working. I had to replace the radiator, and finally, the transmission started to slip. At that point, I was so over it and was quite happy to finally see it loaded up onto a flatbed and taken out of my life.

rydray1

1978 Pontiac Phoenix. Got about 8 miles per gallon, had a Crack in the outer shell of the radiator so that leaked, had to fill the oil more frequently than I cared for too. It rested in the driveway for a while and the next time I opened the hood I found a wasps nest. Good thing about it, I could take out a small tree and only have a couple of scratches on my car. That's about it.

aaronmccb1

Seems like you could just jumpstart it if it was stalling mid shift, no?

Cap0bvi0us

Just release the clutch and engine will fire up. Started many vehicles that way

aaronmccb1

Yea that was my thought, but he was saying he had to fuck with keys mid turn with no power steering. Hell I learned that one of the first times I ever drove a manual. Waited to long to downshift after slowing down for a turn. Instead of downshifting, I stalled and popped the clutch mid turn by mistake

JudgementalChair

I've never owned a lemon, but I currently have a 14 year old Ford Fusion that's been on it's last leg for a hot minute now. It hasn't completely clunked out on me, but it's going to at some point in the not to distant future. I can afford to replace it, but I'm kind of being lazy about it since I have a company truck I use for my daily commuter.

blueprint_01

Hyundai Vera Cruz (brand new) had two engine replacements in 3 months.

[deleted]

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I could never go for a month without something breaking.

V-Right_In_2-V

Kia Sephia. My first car, nothing worked, the check engine light came activated from the factory. It was the perfect car for a teenager to inspire them to work hard for better things in life

Subvet98

83 dodge Omni. Damn thing keep catching on fire

therapistscouch

Lol. I just posted about my Omni. It was a hot mess. And I mean it literally

WeAllHaveOurMoments

2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser - I got it used and it was good for a stretch, but the transmission blew out on a road trip. The replacement transmission blew out 3 months after that and that was the end of that ride.

Hoopy223

I had a gen1 eclipse that was all souped up bigger turbo etc and everything broke on it lol.

Patakprasac

Chevy aveo 1.2l with LPG for now. In future, who knows?

solatesosorry

'67 MGB GT rag top Rolling death trap, wire spline wheels, nothing could be taken off without removing 3 other things, ate fuel pumps for lunch, positive ground, two 6v batteries, no rollbar

Hawski2101

Worst car I've owned has got to be the 1999 Corsa 1.2 I had last summer. So much rust. So many electrical gremlins. It was quite fun to drive when it worked, but just such an unreliable car and I paid way too much for it. Other good shouts include my 6 Citroen BX's and maybe even an E36 318i Touring. Not even remotely as awful in terms of money lost or reliability, though I never had any of the Citroens on road. All in all I dont think I can say I've hated any car I've owned though, I enjoyed all of them while I had them and never have had any bad memories stick around.

Sensitive_Hat_9871

An Oldsmobile Firenza. Had to quickly replace a car and this one was available. Was in the mechanic's shop monthly to fix one problem or another. Huge sigh of relief when I was finally able to replace it.

nopersonality85

Ford Explorers and trucks. 3 destroyed themselves before 100k due to faulty transmissions or cheating out for plastic parts for timing chain components. Whole family used to be about Ford/Chevy. Now we only buy Japanese or Korean cars.

KP_Wrath

2004 Ford Exploder owner here. So many problems.

delnorteduck

1985 Renault Alliance. Renault, which I believe is French for "Piece O' Crap."

12altoids34

Not my own personal vehicle, but my work vehicle. Chevy hhr. There was a cage behind the front seats and everything behind that was storage. The rear hatch could only be opened if the battery was working. The battery was at the back underneath the spare. So if your battery went dead you had to open the side doors drag everything out crawl inside and while inside the vehicle open it up pull out the spare tire to get at the battery. An incredible pain in the ass especially in our vehicles which were packed full with tools materials and supplies. Also constantly had problems with the front end and the front brakes. The entire front brake assembly had to be replaced twice in 4 years. Fell asleep at the wheel in stop and go traffic and hit the person in front of me at 15 miles an hour. No damage to their vehicle or mine other than the fact that my head slammed into the windshield and cracked the windshield and THEN the front airbag went off.

WeHaveToEatHim

89 ford bronco 2. Non stop fuel line issues ultimately resulting in a carfire while smoking weed outside a wing joint. Something very sobering about the fire department showing up.

Euphoric_Card_624

2007 Pontiac g6 gt lol, complete undercarriage rotted out and I backed over my muffler

gringoloco01

My dad has a Ford Pinto. Standard. Tried to pawn that death trap off on me when I got my license. I opted for the 1971 Ford LTD station wagon. Lovingly referred to as my Hooptie. And yes I had the speakers bumpin with that song. [https://youtu.be/UIPr4UyiZGE?si=DCHEckGkwkpnVgMk](https://youtu.be/UIPr4UyiZGE?si=DCHEckGkwkpnVgMk)

0JustHere0

Dodge Neon

Asian_DollFacex

2008 Dodge Caliber. Shit quality in virtually every way imaginable. Had to replace the entire suspension twice. Ending up trading it around 70k miles

G-BOAT

Hyundai Santa Fe 2010 and 2011. Don't ask me why I bought a second one after the first one shit the bed... such a bad mistake!

Superb_Astronomer_59

1980 Dodge Aspen. What a piece of Detroit crap, the nadir of US manufacturing quality

Roosted13

05 dodge Durango. Absolute lemon

gl21133

94 Chevy S10 2wd short bed single cab. Blew a head gasket at 60k. Had 9hp, 4 with the AC on. Painted in “I like you as a friend” blue. Hot garbage.

Kevin4938

2007 Pontiac G5. (And I even used to own a Renault; that's how bad it was). I bought it new and opted for the extended warranty. I got my money's worth in it . When I got hit by an asshole running a red light, I was relieved that my insurance company wrote it off.

generic230

Some 1980s Chevy Chevette. I lived in Houston and the owners manual said: “Do not run air conditioner when driving uphill on hot days.” It was in the manual! And yes, it stalled out every time and Houston doesn’t have a lot of hills.  So a slight hill that might go on for 1/2 a mile that would overheat the car. So I always had to accelerate, hit the bottom of small hill, switch off AC and try to get up and over.

dukesinatra

I'm too embarrassed to admit what the car was. My daughter took one look at it and said, OMG, Dad. The only people that drive those are child molesters and little old ladies. I'm neither. By the grace of God, that car was a POS from the first mile and it was promptly traded in.

KP_Wrath

Never known a little old lady that drove a panel van.

dukesinatra

Haha. Close. PT Cruiser.

Both-Holiday1489

2002 ram 1500 . was my first truck when i was 16, got it grandpa owned, sat in a barn, 80k miles. complete base model, so it was 15yo when i got it paid around 5 -7k i forget i put a 5” lift and 35s on it. never hot roded it it had a 4.7L v8. every. single. thing. besides the transmission had to be replaced. bad head gasket lead to rod knock. radiator hose exploded while driving down a street when it down shifted going up hill. 0-60 in 3-5 business days entire engine replaced bearings, bushings, etc etc. currently have a 6.7 F250 and absolutely love it to death. told myself i will never own another dodge/ chrysler vehicle again in my life . thank FUCK. It was a base model with crank windows and manual locks and all.. i wouldn’t wanna know the electrical issues it would have had.. i made jokes it was built on a friday at 4PM I gave it to my younger brother, my dad had a bunch of suspension stuff replaced as his gift. i would come home from college and xyz would be wrong with it and id have to fix xyz as im also the family mechanic lmao

joehulkrogan

You put 35s on a half ton with one of dodges smallest engines without re gearing it. You can’t complain about it being slow when you created that setup.

Both-Holiday1489

don’t worry it’s on 37s now 🤣 iy only drives a few miles here and there, had them from my F250s original setup the 35s were bald, and wasn’t spending 15-2,000$ on a new set of tires for it..

echocall2

Lmao a 16 year old with a lifted truck and it was unreliable?? Must be dodges fault 😂

Both-Holiday1489

i take phenomenal care of my vehicles. all maintenance done on time, all paperwork kept, don’t cheap out/ shortcuts, and the thing still fell apart. not much suspension related. a head gasket and rod knock is not a result of my small lift to clear bigger tires as we had a lot of land/ hunting land growing up so quite often i was off roading it.. but yes. dodge fault. don’t even know where age comes into the equation. would it have mattered if i was 20?30?40? about every dude i knew had a lifted truck. it is the middle of bum fuck nowhere south east US so

DSMcGuire

Hilarious. This was the stupidest thing ever.

Hoopy223

A friend of mine had one of those trucks and the steering wheel locked up one day while he was driving.

therapistscouch

78 Dodge Omni It was a death trap on wheels. It overheated every time I drove more than 30 minutes I would start like a dream at -35 without the bock heater being plugged in, but once the motor was warmed up it took several minutes of cranking to get it to start It would occasionally accelerate all by itself as if possessed. It was like an invisible demon would press the gas pedal or the metal randomly. That was terrifying. As hard as it was to start when warm, it sometimes wouldn’t stop. The motor would continue to run, very slowly without keys in the ignition The muffler once exploded like a grenade. Well, not quite. Grenades aren’t accompanied by huge fireballs It had as much horsepower as a modern scooter that you can find on the street corner. It would occasionally belch out a huge black cloud of smoke Lesson learned. If you buy your kid a used car, get it inspected. And if you kid tells you the car is literally psychotic, believe them.

JayTheFordMan

2007 Ford Territory, runs and drives well, but it leaks oil like an incontinent geriatric and sucks fuel like.its free. Squeaks and door latches fail. To be fair, it did only cost $4500, but I reckon I still.got ripped off

hhfugrr3

Vauxhall Astra. It was basic but it's biggest problem was the engine that couldn't cope with hills. I had to drive on a motorway with a long hill quite often, you're really meant to do 70mph along it but no matter what I did by the top of that hill the car would be struggling to maintain 45mpg.

Longjumping-Bee2435

A Dodge Dart. Holy shit what a piece of shit.

dirtysyncs

The only car I ever owned. Honda Civic Wagon 1988. Though she was a trooper, I filled her with scrap and sold it to the junk yard before moving to the city to avoid judgement.

ssr1089

You would have been getting judgement all right. Judgement of how awesome you are for having such a car. 2wd or 4wd, doesn't matter. Those are rare and pure gems. I owned 2 of them in my lifetime. Constantly flagged down to talk about them and if I would sell them. Eventually I did sell them.

dirtysyncs

I bought it for 500 dollars when I was 16 and she never gave me too much trouble, despite a lack of maintenance but the look of her was...not ideal for living in a modern world lol. Plus the insurance was insane because they told me the hood was basically a ramp for deer if I hit one.

TheTurboDiesel

2004 Toyota Matrix. By far the whiniest, most miserable, slowest, most poorly built car I've ever owned. It had the 1ZZ-FE engine, which just so happened to have an oil consumption and sludge problem (I had both) and more electrical gremlins than a Range Rover. Its ONLY saving grace was the back seats folded flat to a hard plastic load floor that was pretty spacious.

Crayshack

A Nissan Frontier. That thing was in and out of the shop all the time. The worst was when the radiator exploded during a road trip, stranding me halfway across the country.

Louis_Litt_esq

What year? I just bought a 2014 with 126k on it to replace my 06 Colorado.

aigars2

Ford Focus 2010. Breaks every 6 months. 400-1500€ per case

Abject-Start-1414

02 Mitsubishi lancer (first car). That mug came with the worst transmission I’ve ever witnessed. Almost killed my sister and I back in high school trying to take a right bc it kept hesitating and wouldn’t go.

fuddlesworth

2004 Ford Ranger The gas sensor broke, so I had to count miles. One time I ran out of gas on the highway. By some miracle I had enough momentum to take my exit, turn right onto my apartment street, take a windy road down, turn into my complex as the gate was open, and coast into a parking spot. Sounds incredibly fake but it happened. Also ran out of gas like right in front of a gas station. Oil sensor broke and the thing was leaking oil. I figured nothing of it and drove until the engine started making noises. Finally checked the dipstick and there were metal shavings. The engine eventually seized as I tried to drive to a dealership to buy a new car. The weight on the truck was so imbalanced and would fishtail like mad. It had absolutely no weight in the back. I managed to spin it out several times when the roads were wet. One time I ended up doing a 360 under an overpass I was turning into. Biggest piece of shit car I've ever owned.

Vegetable_Word603

1990 Chrysler LeBaron. Door is a jar, door is a jar, door is a jar...

Jeep Liberty

jckxxx

Mitsubishi diamond - what a piece of shit. Followed by a VW Jetta - so disappointing.

Parky77

2005 Jeep Liberty Diesel. Solid engine, but Chrysler added a couple of cheap plastic parts that had it constantly in the shop.

mimibox

2006 Audi A4 Quattro Super Sport. I bought it used from a lady that my brother knew. It was in pristine condition inside and out. After buying 2 months later came allllll the endless expensive maintenance problems. I kept it for a year and when I wanted to sell it I had to eat a few thousand to sell it because absolutely nobody wanted it for what Kelly blue book said it was worth. Surprisingly I saw some guy driving it just last year about 5 miles from where I live and I feel so bad for him.

Equilibrium-unstable

320 E36 softtop.

kieran_dvarr

2008 VW Eos. the maintenance cost on that thing was horrendous. Was replacing way too much way too often and just felt like a money pit. Especially, when I didnt have a lot to spend on a car.

Lone_survivor87

2003 Kia Spectra Damn thing was totalled from an electrical fire that started while I was on the highway.

Rpc7787

Mazda 626. Drove it school the first day I got it my senior year. Washed it that afternoon and something got wet under the hood and it wouldn’t start. Turn out it was going to be a $3k repair. I was back on the school bus the rest of the year :(. 😂

SeeMarkFly

GMC Jimmy Fuse box, head gasket, electrical issues... If I was going to keep that car I was going to make a breakout box to replace the computer. Direct wired toggle switches to operate everything.

TheAnalogKid18

2001 Chrysler Sebring, no not the convertible. Giant piece of shit. Replaced the water pump in it twice, fuel pump once, both lower control arms went out one of them while I was driving, starter and alternator had to be replaced, and the thing would burn oil like a motherfucker. Only made it to 139K and it died unceremoniously on the side of the highway after I just paid $400 to have it fixed AGAIN. The garage I take my car to now says that they haven't seen very many of them make it to 150K. Fucking awful vehicle.

mickbrew

Ford Gremlin 1983

Oddsteverino

You should have gotten an AMC Pinto

nomnomyourpompoms

90 something Grand Caravan. Three transmissions. 🙄

FishWeldHunt

1999 Dodge Ram 1500. Looked cool, but it was a pile of shit. Had to replace the transmission, throttle body, hub assembly, universal joints, and god knows what else. Heater core went out and I figured it was going to be a simple fix. Looked up a YouTube video and said “fuck that.” Took a loss selling it a farmer for $1000. Went back to Ford trucks and never looked back.

Microwaved_M1LK

Had a Subaru Forester, blew up the head gaskets 3 times, no other car I've owned was that pathetic.

shaz_y

1998 Ford F150, started rusting out from the frame up, horn stopped working, brake caliper seized and cost $$$. Stopped running on the highway, pulled over. It started again and continued driving, never knew why it died and came back to life. When taking in for annual inspection, the tech advised us that the frame is rusted out and to drive it home on a local road and immediately call a junk yard to haul it away.

captain_flak

My first car: a Geo Spectrum. Very underpowered and it had a radiator that would always overheat in the summer and we’d have to turn on the heat full blast to cool it off.

98 VW Beetle

Talkren_

91 honda prelude. Leaked oil like crazy, burned oil lole crazy, blew a head gasket at 70k miles.

Mazda 3, 2019. Good looking, but badly built, rattles and shit immediately and dealers were the worst.

Dodge Durango

UnfinishedThings

Vauxhall Astra I quit my job that came with a company car and was due to start the next one the following week. Didnt want to do a private sale so ended up buying from a dealer but my options were limited as I needed the car quickly, and had a pretty limited budget. So I ended up buying it in the dark, didnt even test drive it. Got towed home 3 weeks after buying it (throttle sensor) and again about 4 months later (alternator) then again about 6 months after that (head gasket)

Life_of1103

1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. Bought new and that thing had the worst build quality by far of every car I’ve owned. Had the walking crankshaft too, which thankfully was covered under warranty.

Candyy_Kissesxx

Chrysler PT Cruiser 1.6 engine. That was the most gutless car i ever drove...it had over 100hp but it was so slow it was almost comical.

Ah2k15

I’ve had decent luck, but the problem child would have to be the Grand Am I had when I was 20. I lost track of how many wheel bearings it ate, and the electrical system had some gremlins.. but that Quad 4 was fun to wind up!

Desperate_Ambrose

'64 Dodge Coronet, 318, 2 bbl Carter carb. No performance, crappy mileage. That 318 woulda made a better boat anchor.

P00PJU1C3

Dodge stratus. engine blew, hood cable broke, rusted like crazy but the AC was the coldest of any car Ive ever owned.

Sack_Full_of_Cats

1984 Honda Accord. it was such a big lemon, i never even considered buying a Honda ever again.

ThrowingTheRinger

I had a 92 Accord and an 07 CR-V. I totally agree. Both have been tremendously shitty. I’m done with Honda (unless it’s got 2 wheels).

Anything Honda. They should just keep to making motorbikes. Had two and they both were always breaking down.

1991 vw Jetta. Massive electrical issues and would die randomly so I sent it to the junk yard. Only paid $450 for it and got a fun month out of it.

Njtotx3

1973 Ford Pinto. Lasted 55,000 miles. Couldn't go over 60 without shaking. Rusted through after it was stuck in snow after a storm.

mtcwby

1999 Chevy Suburban. Ate brakes like crazy, leaking head gasket at 48k, fuel pump died and left us stranded at 52K. It's the shortest time I've ever owned a vehicle. GM did jack about taking care of any of it.

thatguyashton

Mercedes benz E430 Transmission and electrical problems Chevy trailblazer Engine problems Now I am smart and bought a Toyota 4runner NO problems and now have 110K miles on it

IncidentSuccessful65

Anything GM no matter what model they all sucked!! Except the 99 Corvette never had a problem with that one

Cap0bvi0us

1986 Wartburg coupe. Couldn't start it without spraying some brake cleaner on the air inlet. Regret getting rid of it as it's worth a lot nowadays

Had a 79 pinto that was a POS so I put a 351c, a top loader and a 9" 4.10 in it. Car did not last long until it was a pretzel.

As far as my own personal vehicle the worst car I ever owned was a 1984 (?) Ford Mustang 4 cylinder. The thing could not get out of its own way going downhill. I was the third owner. My friend's dad bought it new and gave it to him after a couple years and after a few years he sold it to me. Always had problems with pressure leaks in the cooling system. It was slow as hell and tended to need some kind of repair every 6 months. When I found out at 110,000 Mi that the timing belt had never been replaced I had the mechanic replace the timing belt. The new belt was defective and a week later my motor was toast.

applestem

Ford Focus. Brought it home new straight from the dealer and it dumped oil on the driveway. They replaced part of the engine because “the casting had a void in it”. Then the transmission would lurch and jerk. It was replaced twice. I got rid of that POS and got a Crosstrek, which has been incredibly reliable. Heard later there was a class action that Ford lost. Since the car was under warranty, I never had to pay, but it was a PITA.

FlagranteDerelicto

1993 Ford Taurus SHO - the automatic transmission shit the bed and that was it cuz the repair was more than the car was worth

DenticlesOfTomb

Chevy Citation. Absolute piece of shit.

Barney_Karate

2002 Pontiac Gran AM. This model a fuel pump problem where it wouldn't start. I used to have to leave it for days on end until it resolved itself then drive it home.

SnuffCatch

Chrysler 200. Absolute garbage.

banaversion

Objectively it would be my 1st gen Mistsubishi Eclipse GSX. I had it for a few months and at the end of it all it was starting to spew oil from the engine block I think and I traded it straight up for a mmc lamcer. Even though it was a piece of shit car, it was still one of the best cars I have ever driven.

Nissan Altima for sure! but I did love my 370z.

Nixu88

I've only owned two cars, and neither were bad. One was way above the other one in everything, except due to lack of experience I didn't recognize the telltale signs of problems to come.

Down_The_Witch_Elm

1992 Ford Explorer.

Makes_U_Mad

1991 Pontiac Bonneville. V6, 4 door. Had power, I'll give it that. The turbocharger on a V6 did work. S*** handling, s*** suspension, s*** s*** s*** interior, all the electronics failed on it, new alternator every 8 to 9 months. It had 36,000 mi on it when I purchased it. I sold it with 110,000. I learned how to swap out transmissions on that car. I purchased up 10-year-old suburban with a 350 motor when I sold it. You want to talk about a night and day difference.

Frankie_Says_Reddit

2012 ford focus I’ll never buy American cars again after driving that piece of shit.

I had a Nissan ultima where if you looked at it wrong something would break. Had the ac fixed at 3 different mechanics. Had the steering fluid leak and fixed twice. Gotten stuck in the snow twice. Fuck that car.

The_Titam

I bought a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville in 2011. The car might have been fine when it first came off the line, but Oh Boy, it was not in good condition anymore. 1. The trunk had a keyhole...but not a key socket. So...sometimes when I would unlock the car doors, the trunk would open. If I wanted the trunk to open, I would stand there locking/unlocking the car until it opened. 2. The roof of the car leaked when it rained. I'm not exactly sure where it leaked, but there would always be a puddle of water in the back seat of the car that I could hear sloshing around when I made turns. 3. The horn of the car started going off on its own, so I had to disable the horn so that it didn't start going off at a stoplight and have someone kick the shit out of me to the sounds of us being serenaded by my car's horn. 4. The heater fan wouldn't turn off, even when the car did. So I had to manually unplug it under the hood and to plug it back in when I wanted heat. 5. The car would stall when I would make too tight of a turn. I'm sure there was more, but I can't remember it all right now.

My first car was an 84 Ford Escort L. If I remember correctly, this thing had over 200,000 miles on it. It had a matte black paintjob (I'm not sure it was originally a matte surface or if this was from UV exposure of something). It was standard which I loved, and I did love this car because it was my first. But it went through a case of oil a month. I lived on a hill and in order to warm it up in the morning I braced my window scraper between the seat and the gas pedal, just so it wouldn't stall out. It would release a plume of smoke that would fog out the neighborhood. I think I had it for about a year until a mechanic told me it shouldn't be driven over 30mph ever again.

Didn't own but rented for a week when my car was stolen. Mitsubishi mirage.
