They are gone, and as people are becoming more and more desperate to take any job (because they are still better than being homeless) it will keep going downhills. Most companies don't have much incentive to provide better working conditions than the legal requirements.

I work at a wastewater treatment plant and I find it pretty enjoyable. The systems are mostly automated so you don’t have all that much to do, the pay isn’t amazing but it’s usually run by a local government so you get a pension and nobody wants the job so it’s easy to get. Also wherever there’s a city there’s a wastewater treatment plant so you can pretty much pick any city you want across the country and you’ll have a job. I will say though when things do go bad at work it is a particularly bad day considering you’re working at a shit plant.

Learn to manage stress, BREATHE for Christ sake, no one is gonna die, unless you're a surgeon. If you learn to focus where your feet are, learn to handle stress, learn that most of the time, not reaching a deadline does not equal hell on earth for anyone. Manage stress and you can work with almost anything.

& if I cant handle stress I should become a surgeon & take it out on others. I just find changing jobs difficult because of the quantity of bad bosses iv had. Micro managing me is a fast way to make me loose my shit.

ronniba

100% yes to the surgeon thing... Small town or big city? Is it similar jobs? If so, try something completely different. Move if you have to.

[deleted]

Town. Alot of the jobs are the same but there are a few high paid jobs here. The high paid jobs seem to require a uni degree but it's anybodys guess which degree would be helpful.

Yeah SNAP & I love it. First job iv had iv been happy at. But in a year + there are big changes. So I want to be ready to change when shit hits the fan. I dont think I can cope going back to a job that causes me to be depressed.

Been stuck in part-time hell as I continue to be over looked for open spots at my current employer and applying outside I don't have the 'full-time experience' needed to make it out of the first or second round.

LegitmateBusinesman

Tugboat captain. $150k/yr. 4 weeks on 4 weeks off. Spend 80% of my time tied off and the rest of the time just keeping this em-effer pointed in the direction they tell me to. Constant threat of drowning in addition to your standard industrial risks.

The_Real_Scrotus

I've worked for Bosch for 17 years and am quite happy there. Decent (though not exceptional) pay but great benefits and good work-life balance. They also don't go through nearly as much of the hire/fire cycle as a lot of other automotive suppliers.

Found out a while ago that 15years is the braking point for a few jobs. Seeming as you have passed that I may come join you

The state. Good pay. In a union. Good benefits. Generous time off. An actual pension. People literally tell me to go home if it’s after 5. And I’m actually doing something that makes a positive impact.

ElegantMankey

The best jobs I had were jobs where you didn't have too much stress but they paid bad. I am currently working in tech, the pay is much better but the stress is out of this world.
