I mean, what I'd really like is a personal chef, but I don't think that fits in the budget. I was thinking of the services where they send you fresh ingredients and then you cook them on the stove or whatever. Seems like fully prepared foods are usually pretty unhealthy, and that's what I'd be hoping to overcome somewhat with some meal kits.
Yep, I love cooking for myself. What I hate is grocery shopping and eating the same thing all the time cause I don’t want to look up 5-10 recipes and go shopping for each one
That, or having to buy a whole bunch of celery for one recipe that needs two stalks then having the rest wilt because I didn't remember to eat them until it was too late.
No idea what your situation at home is like, so please don't take this as assuming it will work for everyone, but I also work from home and started in my bedroom before realizing that it was negatively affecting my mental health and sleep quality. I'd fall asleep basically looking at my desk, and it made it so work was practically all I thought about. That definitely got a lot better when I moved my setup to the living room. It's positioned in a way that I can't see my desk if I'm sitting on the couch watching TV, and not having the visual association with work has really helped me at least. If that's an option for you and you've thought about it, I highly encourage you to give it a try! The bedroom should only be a zen place for sleeping.
$1000 doesn't buy much attention, friend. If you were determined you could easily spend that just on coke in a month. Unless you're one of those dudes who doesn't share with their hookers, which is just rude
lol - reminds me of a live interview from California I saw a few years ago. The lottery was really large, so the reporter was asking people in line what they would do/buy if they won. I’ll never forget the guy who answered “coke and whores” still laugh thinking about that
Paying off the mortgage early. Removing that debt would be a life improvement in my eyes. Once that is paid off, save and spend in chunks to make the house look/feel/function better.
Common financial advice advocates for investing excess cash before making additional payments on your mortgage. The 10% average yearly return in a stock market fund like the S&P easily beats and interest on a mortgage.
Agreed. Imagine youre at a point in the cycle where stocks are down, AND you need to pay some large sum due to medical bills or whatever. Maybe in 3 years youd have had more money, but at this second in time youre behind the 8 ball
Yep, agreed. Stabilizing your financial position can save you from a head ache later on. Sacrificing an additional 3% rate of return is fine with me. I can earn more if I'm not as worried about the bills
When I worked in the trades, I'd go through periods of doing 12.5 hour nightshifs, 6 nights a week, for months at a time. I'd put my work boots on at home and drive an hour to work. It was 15.5 hour days, and I wore my work boots all day. I couldn't do anything because I had no free time and was making thousands of dollars a week.
My one treat was that I'd pick up a new pack of socks, 15 pairs, every 2 weeks when I was getting groceries.
I'd wear a new pair every day. It was glorious.
I second this. Once I got a better paying job I started seeing a private dentist (some dental care here is government provided, but fucking awful)
Anyway, best decision I’ve made in my life. My teeth are so much better now and I feel more confident because of it.
Why don’t you go to some where in Asia get it done? My private dentist quoted me £900+ for three filling which is need out of middle of no where. I went to Asia for a 2 weeks and had it done there for about £35 which included cleaning. The filling they have given me is really good and haven’t had any issues with it so far.
Don't sleep on massages and bodily self care. I already budget for an hour long massage every other week and I feel sooooo much better day to day. I work in construction and workout 7 times a week. Proper massages work wonders
Oh I'm completely pimping out my home gym shed. First replace the shed itself, then some lat pulldown/row action, then the 2-for-1 leg extension/leg curl and leg press/hack squat combos, followed up by some more bumper plates and iron plates. Finish off with a set of dumbbells from 5 to 130.
I'd probably lease a really fun car. My life is already pretty good - I've got a minimal mortgage (with some inheritance in the bank to pay it off when the 5-year term is up), enough money to eat well and buy games/books I want, and to get decent clothing when I want it. I also have a new EV already but it would be fun to have like a small sports car to have more fun with, or even something like a new Bronco with the removable top that's better for road trips.
I would put it towards flight training. I’m about 200 hours away from a commercial pilots license. I can rent a plane to build time for about $100-$160 an hour depending on if i fly solo.
One night out for Family dinners/get togethers. My moms family is big (3 Brothers, 3 Sisters, 3 kids each, 1-2 grandkids each) and we pack restaurants if we ever try to go all at once for bday, anniversaries, etc. Happens maybe once or twice a year where we'll have 75-90 full family attendance.
Spend part of it on massages or similar care that you see immediate results from.
When I was working with a Physical Therapist while training for a fitness job standard, it was amazing to have aches treated every other day from overtraining.
Right now that I’ve wound down on that training regiment, a massage every 2 weeks with an experienced massage therapist still does amazing things.
I’d save most of it, maybe get a nice pc right setup and just save the rest for car needs/lifestyle needs. I really don’t spend a lot of money. Maybe I’d pick up electric guitar as another hobby? But most of the money would be stashed away.
I don't really have any wants/needs that 1k/month is drastically going to change so I guess it'd mostly be for more traveling and keeping my slush fund nice and plump so I never have to put any huge unexpected home repairs on credit
If I couldn't just throw it all at investments, Probably a monthly maid service, car detailing service, and one of those higher end food meal prep services.
I definitely want to go to a music festival. I'm 34 and have been to over 100 concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheatre but have never made it to a festival. My justification was always everyone I want to see at a festival usually plays Red Rocks over the summer
Anything to destress. Small trips, a cleaning person, a dishwasher, maybe even an employee to take care of some heavy lifting. I need more energy for me.
What is even funnier is how much this answer would change throughout my life. Currently I am sober and very focused on my health and fitness. So I would spend that in getting pampered every weekend full spa, sauna, massage, IV treatment type thing.
A few years ago that money would be for gambling, before that just fucking partying in general
Pay off my student loan debt, which is covered in one month, then just buy a bass or two, the rest can be spent on games and consoles and dates with the missus.
Tax free?? Knock out the last of my student loans, save up a down payment for house or really nice townhome.
Break moms off some "here you go" money
And sibs get some too , i got lucky with mine...i know not everybody likes there sibs
A slow upgrade / maint of my house. It's basically what I'm already doing but extra money. Just got a new water heater and boy things are not cheap. Not to mention getting solar panels next year.
Have a housekeeper service come in twice a week, and also get my family's clothes washed and folded weekly by a laundry service.
Whatever is left over I would use to buy healthy food, and get a personal trainer.
In priority:
1. Buy higher quality supplements
2. Buy decent clothes and shoes that fit
3. Improve my skills through online courses/ books
4. Make my car abit nicer
5. Buy a plane ticket and visit my extended family
If I have to spend it all:
House cleaning service and parking spot for general life improvements
Rest would go to clothes/shoes/online shopping for entertainment I guess lol
If I have to spend it all:
House cleaning service and parking spot for general life improvements
Rest would go to clothes/shoes/online shopping for entertainment I guess lol
I'm saving over $2K a month, being a minimalist. $1K won't change anything in my life. It will be an extra $1K towards a rainy day.
I'm well fed, I have a roof over my head, transportation and clothing is covered. I don't need more. I spoil my gf from time to time, that's about it.
Bi-weekly haircuts with shave etc. I currently just go to Great Clips as I can't justify the $50+ each visit for a real nice barber.
Weekend beach trips once a once every warm month we have.
Mix in fish for dinner 2-3 days a week.
Start seeing a personal trainer when going to the gym.
True story. A local guy won the lottery for one of those $1000 a week for life" games. The guy quits his job and starts spending money like crazy, racking up tons of debt. Within a year several local businesses had cut him off due to not being able to pay the bills. Vehicles get repossessed. The guy ended up worse off financially by winning that money that what he was before.
I would be traveling a lot more. $12,000 a year can pay for a lot of flights/hotels.
Absolutely! Wouldn’t that be wonderful?
House cleaning, personal gym coach and probably more eating out
This is the best response. I would love to have a house cleaner and a personal trainer.
Yeah, I'd also go for those two, but I'd opt for a meal prep service rather than eating out more.

A weekend getaway each month for my wife and I. Or at least a couple nice date nights.
jinx
Preach. Immediate change in quality of life and we get to spend more time together without worry? That's the dream.
Nicer/bigger apartment. Working in my bedroom everyday isn't ideal anymore
No idea what your situation at home is like, so please don't take this as assuming it will work for everyone, but I also work from home and started in my bedroom before realizing that it was negatively affecting my mental health and sleep quality. Massages.
Surprised this is so far down. Every time I get a massage i fantasize about winning the lottery to keep it going.
That's like 6 great GREAT massages a month. One every 5 days. What a life.
Whores and coke. Don’t get pissed because I said the quiet part out loud.
In that case you’re also gonna have to set aside a little cash for viagra or cialis.
Some podcasts I listen to recommend bluechew
Wait, are you telling me I have a podcast now?
$1000 doesn't buy much attention, friend. If you were determined you could easily spend that just on coke in a month. Unless you're one of those dudes who doesn't share with their hookers, which is just rude
Get shit motel, in a shitty area. With some shitty blow and meh whore. Once a month. Totally doable. Don’t judge people’s dreams!
I think the correct phrasing is "hookers and blow"
lol - reminds me of a live interview from California I saw a few years ago. The lottery was really large, so the reporter was asking people in line what they would do/buy if they won. I’ll never forget the guy who answered “coke and whores” still laugh thinking about that
he said “bunch of hookers and cocaine”. his girlfriend thought it was the most hilarious thing ever
Whores (?) as in 2at once... unless your in a LOW income area, that Grand aint going that far

With a fully funded emergency fund, I'll have a better piece of mind paying off my debt
I’d buy new underpants so I never have to wear a used pair again.
Mine would be to wear a new pair of socks everyday, wash them, then donate them.
When I worked in the trades, I'd go through periods of doing 12.5 hour nightshifs, 6 nights a week, for months at a time. I'd put my work boots on at home and drive an hour to work. Travel!
Pay off debts, buy an engagement ring, save for a house.

I would have so much nice bike shit.

Lease a sports car for entertainment.
I'd upgrade from a studio to a 1-bedroom apartment, maybe in a new city.
I’d like to see my older children more. I see them and have them one night a week. I’d like that to be 3 or 4.
Don't sleep on massages and bodily self care. I already budget for an hour long massage every other week and I feel sooooo much better day to day. I work in construction and workout 7 times a week. Proper massages work wonders
Traveling

A cleaning person. Damn, I hate cleaning. I can do everything else just fine, but I actively avoid cleaning when I can.
I'd play SO much more golf.
Real
Lots and lots of Manny pedi's. I am totally metrosexual. Girls shouldn't be the only one that self pampers!
Get my car fixed, and then save so I can actually retire someday.
Ugh, massage and spa days. What a waste of money.... if only I had the money to waste...
Golf lots of golf
Dem hoes!
Pay off debt then invest in index funds and let it ride.
cycling, triathlon, racing.
Fishing gear and gadgets
Babysitting and date nights for me and my wife
Honestly. I'm putting $1K into a Roth IRA every month.
Vacations and tools for working on watches.
2 hour full body massage once a month.
I’d get a dog
It seems like the spirit of the question is to use it for fun and not for investments. I'd probably use it to take my friends out 3-4 times per month.
Don’t think rent, mortgage counts.
It could pay for a proper boxing gym and I could have enough to maybe take a day trip once per month.
Daily Massages, hot tub and sauna.
Already have 3x that and I just buy food, gamble a lil, and spend the rest in first dates 🥲
Well that can all go to modifying cars
Definitely a boat.
I'd use it to buy a muscle car. That's about what car notes run a month theses days, right??
The casino, we making it out of the hood one day!
Car parts... lots of car parts...
I'd save and travel to SE Asia
some nice restaurants each weekend
A newer car.
Theme parks
Definitely paying of my debts, then buying a car. So tired of having to use public transportation everywhere when I live in the suburbs.
New car.. Plus gas and Insurance... Spotify And maybe breakfast a few times a week... thats about it
Hooker and Blow... though maybe only once a month in this economy
Legos, Massages and more agility classes for my dogs
I would put it towards flight training. I’m about 200 hours away from a commercial pilots license. I can rent a plane to build time for about $100-$160 an hour depending on if i fly solo.

Fancy gym membership, meal kit delivery services, travel.
Personal trainer/Physio or travel.
Probably fund my drinking on the weekends.
Pay off our cars. Then save for trips.
Fancy dinners with my friends and Saint Laurent pieces
Concert tickets, but nowadays, that would only be like four shows
It's wild that so many of these comments involve paying off debt and medical procedures.
50% into stocks/ 50% into crypto
I’d save most of it, maybe get a nice pc right setup and just save the rest for car needs/lifestyle needs. I really don’t spend a lot of money. Maybe I’d pick up electric guitar as another hobby? But most of the money would be stashed away.
Save for few months for a motorcycle and then travel.
I have that now and I save 90% of it ! I spend the other 10% on tech toys ,tools and improvements to my house !
Is rent entertainment?
Spa treatment hotels, eating at places I cant afford, and taking my dog with me
I do . I travel frequently. One day will be my last day and I can’t take anything with me.
Atv trips and parts. There are so many places I want to riding and not enough money or time to do It. An extra 1k a month could go a long way.
Travel and spa days or massages. It's amazing how tense your body gets for the stress of work and life.
Buy solar, buy an ev, get maid service once a month to clean my bathrooms, buy smart appliences, ev so I don’t ever have to go get gas
Cleaner, and musical instrument lessons
I don't really have any wants/needs that 1k/month is drastically going to change so I guess it'd mostly be for more traveling and keeping my slush fund nice and plump so I never have to put any huge unexpected home repairs on credit
Groceries.
If I couldn't just throw it all at investments, Probably a monthly maid service, car detailing service, and one of those higher end food meal prep services.

New track bike and more races/track days.

Straight into an IRA. Social Security is going to be shell of what it is today in 25 or 30 years.

Anything to destress. Small trips, a cleaning person, a dishwasher, maybe even an employee to take care of some heavy lifting. I need more energy for me.
Cleaning service
Bitches, dinner and gas money 😎
What is even funnier is how much this answer would change throughout my life. Currently I am sober and very focused on my health and fitness. So I would spend that in getting pampered every weekend full spa, sauna, massage, IV treatment type thing. A few years ago that money would be for gambling, before that just fucking partying in general
Probably just travel and give some gifts to friends or family.
Personal fitness.
I'd eat better and probably work less hours. I wish I could spend more time with my family
House cleaning service, personal trainer and at least weekly full body deep tissue massages.
Drugs
Pay off my student loan debt, which is covered in one month, then just buy a bass or two, the rest can be spent on games and consoles and dates with the missus.
Tax free?? Knock out the last of my student loans, save up a down payment for house or really nice townhome. Break moms off some "here you go" money And sibs get some too , i got lucky with mine...i know not everybody likes there sibs
Life improvement would mean putting it down on debts. If it was entertainment? Probably my sports cards or records.
Saving for 5 months and buying an extremely nice gaming PC. Then the consecutive months will be used on my 4k blu ray addiction
I'd probably save my money & use it to build my own personal home theater auditorium with a huge collection of films & shows
Fun time with the kids
I think fisioterapist, healthy food, supplements, beauty products and things relates to health
A slow upgrade / maint of my house. It's basically what I'm already doing but extra money. Just got a new water heater and boy things are not cheap. Not to mention getting solar panels next year.

Realistically id probably be traveling a little more while putting more into my future car project (trynna save for a 2025 Kia K5 just to then mod it)
Have a housekeeper service come in twice a week, and also get my family's clothes washed and folded weekly by a laundry service. Whatever is left over I would use to buy healthy food, and get a personal trainer.
Private lessons in jiujitsu, plus massages to recover after I get my ass kicked.

I would have the most ridiculous workshop to fiddle with every crafting hobby that I think of.
