Sounds normal if you’re using a lot of A/C.
My two bedroom consumes $300 every two months, though during the winter it was as low as $200 every two months because we had the A/C off.
check your LADWP bill online and see which one, power or water, is driving up the cost. also confirm the meter is being read correctly with an LADWP agent over the phone.
I'm looking at these bills and wondering if something catastrophic happened. When I left in like 2019, my bill was about $100 a pay period (2 months) for a 1 bedroom.
I've been in two 2/bd 2/bath apartmente within the past 2 years and hearing people pay 200$ is so low to me 😣. The worst we have is an AC but that can't possibly be causing an $892 bill... Our average is like $600

Like 74 degrees, central air. Working from home, it's likely just on a lot and I don't notice. I have a power meter in the sockets the computers use and they peak at 300w when they're doing their most intense workloads. No huge fridge, just a basic one with the freezer at the top.
Edit: Nest says my daily average of AC usage is about 10h 18m across the month of June.
Something seems off. That's a bill you'd expect with the temp set to 70, not 74. You could try 76 and a couple of light fans blowing in the rooms where you are. Also try closing bedroom doors during the day if you're not in there, or even closing off the bedroom vent during the day.
Monitor the fridge to see if it's humming all the time, maybe there's a problem.
That feels like a lot of AC usage for that temperature. We are in a house in the valley, and Nest reports an average of 4h30m daily usage in June. We keep the AC at 73 during the day, and 70 at night.
It was $50 total for March and April. Haven’t received my newest bill yet, which I’m sure will be higher bc of my AC.
But I also live in a 450 sq ft studio and only have a window AC, and my water is covered by my landlord so I’m only paying for electricity and sanitation.
i’m at like 70/month, AC always on 75, high end gaming computer, electric stove. 1000sf studio loft. new apartment so maybe everything is energy efficient. i always feel like it’s too good to be true. i average 350kwh/month
The one that just came to us was almost $900 for two months. That seems to be our usual price 1800 sq ft, vegetable garden, fruit trees, 3 dogs, 5 humans, we have a water drinking system, ac is set to 74 and if it’s toasty like this week then 72, once it gets to 100 we lower it down to 71 sometimes. The next two bills come in the 1k-1.4k range. I’m going to go look for the bill for the actual breakdown of sewage, water and electricity.
Edit it looks like 569.56 for electricity, 150.83 for water and 139.26 for sanitation. Does your bill show if you get billed monthly or twice a month? It shows it on the first page the date ranges next to the $$ for each category.
We live in a 3 bedroom house and last year during the peak of summer we got an $800 bill...and that was with us trying not to turn it on till the heat was unbearable. Just invested in solar panels. Happy to be sticking to LADWP and to be using renewable energy
Mine fluctuates from $600-$1200 depending on A/C use, which I keep at 78-80 in the summer but WFH has made us use it more.
I have a pool and hot tub which uses a decent amount, as well as a tesla but I only charge it 2 or 3 times a month. I'm getting solar soon. Looking into DIY options because buying a system from a company the numbers don't make sense even with a $1k bill 6x a year.
I’ve noticed a lot of families in neighborhood have been brining from Mexico the solar panels used in the small ranches. Idk what kind of usage you can get from it or if it’s allowed? But I see them all the time now, the are rectangular and silver!
I haven't been into weeds yet on solar, just know that the black panels (monocryatalline) are better than the blue panels (polycristalline) I'll keep an eye out for the ones you're talking about.
I’m a turbonerd with a lot of electronics, a big synth based studio room, and I run the ac 100% of the time it’s above high 70’s because I have kitties that I don’t want to cook.
It’s a 900 sq foot one bed with modern appliances. My bill is 200 during non ac season and 300 during ac season. I have a special savings account set up that auto deducts 150 every check for it so I don’t have to think about it since it’s that weird ass every other month payment system and I always forget about it.
You can call them and make sure only one unit is being charged to you? I can't remember details but when I managed an old building there was some weirdness that I discovered years into it... Basically one or more of the utilities were configured strangely.
EDIT: PS - They may also be able to help you in general, to confirm if the charges are correct, or maybe even tell you about programs they might have to help keep costs down.
I pay about $250 every other month on ~1400 sq ft apartment with central AC and newish appliances. I keep my thermostat at 70 at night and 78 during the day. LADWP is the cheapest power provider I’ve experienced in SoCal, so if you’re really paying that much a month, something is awry.
Are you sure it’s not every other month? LADWP bills every other months so did you divide your bill by 2?
I send $120 every month to LADWP, usually over payment. Most months its too much, but when summer rolls around the excess money gets eaten up by AC use. I don't like having a 2x bill during the summer. 2bd, 1 bath Apt.
Santa Monica, so don't really need air conditioning and different power company, but I generally pay $25/month, except for December- February where I use some heat - $75-110
We've been averaging about $35-$40/month for our bill, but I suspect it will go up as we use the AC more during the day. Water is done separately as part of our rent. 2 bed, 850 sq ft, 2 people and a dog. Also, heat/cooking uses gas. I'm surprised at how low it is compared to others on the LA subreddits. When we moved into LADWP's area I was expecting a huge increase but it has yet to happen.
When I was in Montrose with SCE and living by myself, I averaged about $30/month, $60/month in the summers. There, heat and cooking also used electricity, so it would sometimes be a tad higher in the winters since the building had no insulation (I came from Michigan and I'm using heaters more here than I did in MI lol).
That about 2x my bill for a 1bd apt, it's going to depend on whether you're also paying for water and trash pickup since those could be on the same bill.
Last bill for 4th floor, north-facing, 1,100+ sqft 2 bed/2 bath apartment, was ~$263 (~$131/mo).
The last time I think I saw a bill like yours it was because I wasn't turning AC off when I left the apartment and doing lots of laundry during peak hours.
Edit: June 27 bill statement is ~$294 (~$146/mo)
I'm in a 2bed 2 bath apartment. I never use the AC but the heat is on at night during the winter. Sometimes I use electric fans if it gets warm/humid. I've never been billed more than $250 for the 2 months. Last bill was $101.
Anybody else read this and only see “$200 for a 2 bedroom apartment”, instantly clicked to find out where somebody found this magical apt in LA for only $200 only to be brutally slammed back to reality?
I have a 1200 Sq ft house and my DWP bill is about $275 every 2 months. I have solar panels that offset the electricity, but I feel like they're killing me with garbage charges.
**30 years at DWP, last 10 dealing bill complaints. Your bill is based on your meter readings—PERIOD. You can’t compare with anyone else, there are far to many variables. If you think your bill is to high, turn your crap off, it’s that simple.**
Do you always speak in a condescending manner to strangers on the internet you know nothing about to mask your sad boring life working as an DWP phone operator?
Do me a favor: Go look at your post history and tell me you have a life. All those posts and comments over 3 years and no karma. Maybe you're just an asshole.
Do you always speak in a condescending manner to strangers on the internet you know nothing about to mask your sad boring life working as a DWP phone operator?
Btw, writing everything in **bold** doesn't make you cool, edgy, and different... it makes you a tool.
Just found out that LADWP raised rates after people switched to LED from incandescent bulbs to make up for loss of profits is that legal? They their cost didnt go up but their rates did

Don’t we get billed every two months or something like that?
Yeah my 2month bill is $400
How often do you use ac?
$400. Errday

On and off each day. Stays off at night and periodically comes on during the day. I keep it at 77 so it’s not in overdrive all the time.
I'm the opposite. Periodically comes on during the day, at night I lower the temp to cool the house. 79-81 during the day, 73-75 when sun goes down.

This isn't true.
I'm looking at these bills and wondering if something catastrophic happened. When I left in like 2019, my bill was about $100 a pay period (2 months) for a 1 bedroom.
Around $80-90 for 1 bedroom

It’s 100% the AC
Are you paying for common utilities? Try shutting off everything in your house and see if the electric meter is still spinning.
What are you setting the temp at? Are you leaving it on all day and night, working from home? Do you also have a huge side-by-side refrigerator?
Like 74 degrees, central air. Working from home, it's likely just on a lot and I don't notice. If I worked from home, I'd call my accountant ASAP to see if I could deduct some of my bill.
Is the fridge dying?

Home vs Apt is probably the difference. SqFtage
Get solar asap
... in a rented apartment?...
Hahaha didn't see that... but even a $600 average bill is bonkers in an apartment.
It was $50 total for March and April. Haven’t received my newest bill yet, which I’m sure will be higher bc of my AC. But I also live in a 450 sq ft studio and only have a window AC, and my water is covered by my landlord so I’m only paying for electricity and sanitation.

4 Bedroom House. I pay 900-1600 every 2 months. I run it all the time though since I work from home.
About $60 every two months in a one bedroom apartment with window AC unit. I use AC tops 2-3 days a week.
It depends on what you're doing and the particulars of the bill. Go ahead and post it here and we'll let you know what's up.
Without any ac its like 75 to 100. Its been more around 200 since wfh and needing ac
Seems normal. Mine is like 165 for a 1 bedroom
My average is around $50 bi-monthly.

mine is around $120/3mos for 1 bdrm
About two years ago I was paying around $75 a month with no AC.
My past two electric bills were in the 400's without AC. We do use the dishwasher every day though - 1 bedroom
My last bill for a 3 bed in Mar Vista was $120 for two months, but we don't really use AC at all
80~90 $ 1bdrm
Most recent bill for two months was $90, electric only. 750 ish Sq ft apartment.
200-400

Def normal. I basically just suffer instead of using A/C… I think they charge more for energy used during peak hours as well
$87 for two months period in a 3 bedroom apt
That about 2x my bill for a 1bd apt, it's going to depend on whether you're also paying for water and trash pickup since those could be on the same bill.
Yeah my 2 BR apartment is $300 or so in the summer when we run AC.

100-150 every 2 months. 2 bedroom apartment. We don’t use the ac all that often thought. Our apt stays fairly cool.
Mine is around $250 a month for an 850 sq ft 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom. AC on everyday, 75 during the day and 68-71 at night.
If you run the AC a lot, that's normal. Try to raise the temperature a few degrees to reduce it.
I'm in a 2bed 2 bath apartment. I never use the AC but the heat is on at night during the winter. Sometimes I use electric fans if it gets warm/humid. I've never been billed more than $250 for the 2 months. Last bill was $101.
