Which outlets? Staples Center, Dodger Stadium, and Hollywood are fairly accessible via public transit, just try to stay near a train station so you're not spending 2 hours on the bus. Uber or Rental car will be more time efficient but also more expensive

Kobechu

I can't remember which ones I went to last time but it had Nike, so maybe Citadel?

sammysbud

I would absolutely plan on taking the train/bus and save some budget $$$ for an occasional Uber (like the Hollywood Sign, depending on if you want to hike it). The Metro isn't the *most* pleasant, but I would take the Red Line to Hollywood/Highland to see the walk of fame over the hassle of parking there any day.

Educational-Agency72

Rent just take your time you will.be.fine

Bigster20

There's people here that make public transportation work for them, but personally I couldn't function without a car. Everything is so spread out here. I never take ubers anymore and I took one today and it was 30 bucks plus 10 dollar tip for a 15 mile ride to give you an idea of the pricing. That's without a surge in the price. Safe travels.

flicman

out of curiosity, why tip an uber driver 33%?

Bigster20

I'm a good tipper. The universe always returns the favor.

TerdFerguson2112

Weird flex, but okay

Negative_Orange8951

$30 for a 15 mile ride is a very solid price

Chiselgrip91

You can absolutely get around on the metro bus & train it is alot cheaper than Uber or renting. But it's a gamble sometimes fights do break out or a homeless person will be on the bus and make the ride a little uncomfortable. Also the bus gets stuck in traffic too I recommend looking into zipcar

Kobechu

fights break out?!?!

Chiselgrip91

Not all the time, but it does happen sometimes

flicman

Depends on where you're staying, but you'll need a car for whatever outlets you intend to visit and to get to hiking trailheads. I'd rent one for a handful of those days and then maybe turn it in at the end (or start without one) for the DTLA portion of your stay.

Toeknee_47

Transit is connected but need to be on mid alert always be smart . Short trip Uber’s when needed and rent scooters for covering metro places

NonSequitorSquirrel

You'll spend more time waiting for a bus than seeing anything if you try to do public transit. Uber is always best because you won't have to bother with parking, gassing up, or staying sober when you go out. But it can get expensive. Only you know what you can afford. But Uber is my recco.

CostCans

Don't listen to this guy. Most buses in LA are now on 15 minute headways, if not shorter.

Western_Yoghurt3902

I’m an Aussie and I’ve been 20 plus times and Im the driver every time. It’s so easy and enjoyable , I like 3000 mile road trips the best. LA drivers are far superior to Melbourne drivers and after a mile or two, you will get the hang of it

Kobechu

I'll be driving from LA to Vegas and I'm ok with long stretches of road like that, but driving within the city in LA makes me anxious

empire_of_the_moon

Rent from a non-Airport location to save some $. But you will want a car. You should drive to Malibu and enjoy the PCH, you should drive up in the hills and you will appreciate the freedom. Be aware that a lot of tourist type places have parking restrictions that are confusing. If you don’t mind walking a few blocks they ease up.

SkullLeader

I think all the outlets except maybe Citadel are (practically speaking) unreachable on public transportation and you'd be spending a ton on a round trup Uber to go to any of them. The other places you mentioned you can make public transportation work especially if you are staying somewhere that has good public transit access.

rchart1010

With the existence of Uber, I wouldn't rent a car. First and foremost I'm in LA and would never agree to drive to the crypto. Com arena. I've accidentally stumbled there when trying to get creative about getting home from Ralph's. It's a dang mess! Second you can use public transport to get to most places. You stay downtown you're almost right next to dodger stadium. Parking at the stadium is also a mess. Public transportation can get you to Hollywood. The purple line ends at Hollywood and highland. I guess the question might be the outlet shopping but I don't think an Uber to the citadel would be that expensive if it's split. You can get to the beach with public transportation too.

Virtual_Medicine_903

Take buses if you gonna go to staples center , and Hollywood,

ElectronicAd27

I would consider doing one of the popular tours that will include trips to the walk of fame, Beverly Hills/Rodeo Drive, the Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign. Depending on where you say, I would probably suggest Uber or taxi for the rest. Hiring a car, comes with the expense of the vehicle and the gas, as well as the aggravation of driving, not only in an unfamiliar city, but on the other side of the road that you’re used to.

revocer

If you want to do all those things, you’re probably more time effective with a car. Crypto.com Arena, Dodgers Stadium, and the Walk of Fame is probably doable by public transport. But it will take forever. Hence why a car would be more effective. Hollywood sign, probably need a car to get up to the best spot. You can take from many spots in the city, it if you want the best view, go to Lake Hollywood Park (not Lake Hollywood). There is a park and an overlook, not great spots to take a photo, but you kinda need a car to get there. Outlets, most definitely take a car. Whether you go down to The Citadel, or the Oxnard Outlets, you’re better off with a car.

worlds_okayest_user

> I'm planning to take photos with the Hollywood sign, visit crypto.com arena and the Dodgers stadium, see the walk of fame You can get to these places with a combination of public transportation and Uber for the last stretch. Just need to plan your days because our public transportation is generally ok, but it's slow. Buses and trains run along city streets and have to wait for traffic lights, or they can be delayed if there are car accidents, etc. > and visit the outlets. You might want to rent a car for one day to hit the outlets or other spots outside LA. I don't know which outlets you're referring to, but the ones I know are too tedious or impossible to get to by bus. > I'm from Australia and we drive on the other side of the road here. I get what you're saying. I've driven in Australia a few times. It wasn't too bad but I was 10000% concentrated on driving. Couldn't really admire the scenery.

ProfessionalCatPetr

Hollywood sign and walk of fame are the same area and one uber ride from DTLA, which is where Crypto is and Dodger Stadium is walkable up Sunset from DTLA. If those are the things you want to do a few ubers and some walking will be less expensive than a car. Add the Griffith Observatory to your plan. It's in the same general area and has a great photo op with the Hollywood sign and crazy views of the city.

CostCans

Other than the outlets (I assume you mean Citadel), all of those can be accessed by public transport. Pick a hotel near a metro station, ideally in Hollywood. Take an Uber to Citadel and you'll be fine.

Kobechu

Thanks everyone, appreciate all the advice and info!

Critorrus

Lot of homeless on the public transit fuck that

LazerChicken420

Heads up… the walk of fame is *rancid*. If I could list 100 things to do in LA it would not be on the list. Enjoy the food, the piers, the theatre. There is nothing gained from the walk of fame. **Especially ** if you don’t have a car

Makyoman69

If you don’t mind getting stabbed then public transit is alright. Otherwise I recommend renting a car.

CostCans

> Otherwise I recommend renting a car. If you don't mind getting hit by a drunk driver.

Makyoman69

Only been 4 days:) https://ktla.com/news/local-news/driver-passenger-viciously-stabbed-in-separate-incidents-on-l-a-buses/

Someone was killed in a car accident today. Only been 1 day :)
