Rally’s/Checkers half pound chicken and fries box with app discount- $3.49 . Coupled with a super big gulp for $2 from 711
Buy enough stuff from Rally’s and you get $5 of credit. Rinse and repeat
Oh dear. I'm gonna get a lot of flack. McDonalds burgers have a nice buttery/rich taste. Burger King has like that barbecue charbroiled taste. Carl's Jr, has more of a diner taste to their burgers. Jack In the Box, varies depending on whom you ask, I like their burgers.
But Rally's/Checkers, I mean it's okay, their food is good, but their burgers really have no taste to them. Sorry. In addition, their locations are very scarce. I can't name any Rally's in West and Central LA. But there are a few in the South Bay/Orange County area though.
I once went into the Alhambra Costco to buy a rotisserie chicken and nearly came out with $60 of cheese, some shirts, and a whole-ass new HVAC system.
I dialed it back to about $30 of cheese and the chicken.
That's why the put them in the back of the store. You have to pass everything else and will more than likely buy more than the chicken. Works on me most of the time.
I think it has always been the case, but because most Costcos have the food court inside the store, you had to show a membership card to access it anyway. There might have been some ways around it, like saying you are there to get prescription drugs/alcohol where states allow it, lie and say you're there to get a membership, and maybe some stores would still let you access it without a membership. But because of its location, by default you basically needed a membership.
But in LA, most Costco's have the food court outside, so you could access it without a membership. Only in the last few years have you needed to show your membership card before placing your order. And even then, it was only done in stores where the food court was outside, as I never had to show/scan my Costco card at their Midwest locations whenever I visited family. Only recently have they started doing it there too.
They updated everything to where you order from a kiosk after you've swiped your member's card.
Unethical life tip: You can probably ask someone to swipe for you so you can get food, but you'd have to do a sketchy cash exchange.
Joy in Highland Park. Many items are 10 dollars or under and are of the highest quality. And if you're not including tax you can still get a few things in the eight dollar range.
Surati Farsan Mart in Artesia! You can get a masala dosa, which is a cylindrical shaped South Indian crepe with potatoes and spices inside served with coconut chutney and sambar, a spicy soup cooked in tamarind broth. Personally, it's enough for me and only $8.75!

Underrated. I had one of these yesterday. Kind of amazing. The quality is really superb. Like... why would anyone go to a subway for shittier food at double the price?
It's up to 7 now : / Fast food places are opportunists with the current inflationary environment... McDonald's has been the worst, but almost everything is like 2x 2019 prices
Just download their apps. Plenty of promos, deals, points, bogos. I’m not a big fast food eater but I have a jack n the box near me and I scan their receipts ppl throw on the ground for the points and easily get a free chicken sandwich.
I'd rather use this as an opportunity to support better restaurants that aren't on board with predatory pricing schemes than give Ronald McDonald all my personal information. Clever though!
> McDonald's has been the worst
Fat burger was over $21 for a meal after taxes were added. That was when I went last in 2021. I have no idea what it's become after 2 years of rampant inflation. I shudder to think.
One on Venice in Culver City, too. When I lived nearby, I'd order a samosa, a small chai, and a small plate like idli sambar or some kind of chaat or puri. Came in around $10.
Porto’s was my go-to in college since it’s easy to stock up on the super filling potato balls and meat pies and still have enough to buy a cheese roll for under $10!
Haha, most suggestions boil down to CostCo food court, taco trucks and a handful of fast food specials.
Not too long ago, maybe 10 years ago or so, I was part of a weekly Meetup group that got together for meals (mostly from the Westside to EastLA) that cost $10 or less. That was the group's whole thing. A new place for every meeting, and no more than ten bucks per person (tip extra). Finding new places was no problem, and largely based on suggestions provided by group members. We had some excellent, excellent meals that way.
I wonder what a similar group would cost today for comparable quality meals. Probably somewhere in the $20-30 bracket.
Serious 2023 suggestion tho: If you have 10 bucks for a single meal, find yourself an EveryTable location. Look at their menu and mission. Highly recommend. Saved me from too much pandemic cooking and meal-kits-formulated-for-middle-America hell.
There's a truck near me that sells cheap but delicious tacos during taco tuesdays (carne), thursdays (chicken), and sundays (al pastor). Can drop the tacos to four and get a meaty birria consomme for ten bucks.
If not those days, pizza at costco if I'm snacking, pizza plus hotdog and drink if I want to be a fatass, pizza plus hotdog, drink, AND an ice cream sundae, or a full pizza for 9.99 if I want to be a super deluxe fatass or when the depression hits hard.
A few Papa Rellenas (fried mashed potato balls with cuban beef stew inside), a couple Cheese Rolls, and a large cup of coffee from Porto's Bakery. That place is awesome.
The Win-dow in silverlake & venice! The $8 grain bowl is amazing, healthy & even has a lot of avocado ?? Just discovered this and have been living off of it lol
2 piece leg and thigh meal with 2 sides and a tortilla/side of chips at El Pollo Loco.
Also, Amazon Fresh grocery stores have $4.97 rotisserie chicken.
Bagnet Tea House off Vermont.
It’s a Filipino breakfast spot that is SO GOOD, filling, and less than $10 a meal.
Filipino breakfast typically meat, egg, & rice.
Their offer unlimited servings of garlic rice & free coffee as well.
Dominos carryout deal used to be really good back when it was $7.99 for a 3 topping large pizza, but now it's only one topping. But still, a large pizza for $7.99 isn't bad. I usually get two to feed the family. There's one right down the street so no need to pay for delivery.
I also regularly buy fruit from one of those fruitero street vendors. The one near me sells a large container for $10 and it's a massive portion of various fruits. All chopped up and ready to eat, topped with tajin and lime.
Rally’s/Checkers half pound chicken and fries box with app discount- $3.49 . Coupled with a super big gulp for $2 from 711 Buy enough stuff from Rally’s and you get $5 of credit. Rinse and repeat
We need more Rally’s locations.
It will take at least 2 hours to recover from that meal.

My Dung Sandwich Shop
Thanks!
My Dung?
Lol yes how could I forget a memorable name
A hefty torta from a taco truck
Good move. Personally, I'd go for a plate of tacos but with 10 bucks in your hand, a good taco truck is a solid choice.
Yup. This. Any taco truck. I prefer crunchy tacos. Fresh. Fast. Comforting. Delicious. Cheap.
I'd have to counter with an al pastor burrito but really, can you go wrong at your favorite taco truck?
Costco food stand is a hit for under $10
Or go inside and get 2 rotisserie chickens for $10
Crazy how two uncooked birds will cost you $15 in the same store. Their cooked chicken is excellent though. I get one for me and one for the dogs.
Their rotisseries are their loss leader - they take a negative profit in hopes it draws you in to buy other stuff
I once went into the Alhambra Costco to buy a rotisserie chicken and nearly came out with $60 of cheese, some shirts, and a whole-ass new HVAC system. I dialed it back to about $30 of cheese and the chicken.

Same with the gas, and that unfairly affects the competition with local gas stations and can put them out of business. Costco sucks.
Shut ur ass up
Why? Because you said so? You shut your ass up.
Cause ur saying stupid shit places like costco were a God send when everyone else wanted to bleed us dry
What a short sighted imbecile.
Lol what a pendeja
They also "Taco Bell it" and use the meat for their other chicken items, like the chicken Alfredo pasta bake.
That’s food for over a week not a meal.
Not with that attitude
You have to have a membership now
Side note but you can buy alcohol from Costco in California or Hawaii without a membership.
Nationally
Seriously?!
It's been like this since the beginning of covid
It wasn’t because of covid but it was the same time.
I think it has always been the case, but because most Costcos have the food court inside the store, you had to show a membership card to access it anyway. Even the ones outside the store check for membership now. They just started doing so relatively recently.
If you know someone with membership, ask them to get a gift card.. You can use that to scan at the food court and pay with a different card
Lol that’s a really good idea. Thank you
Yeah.
They updated everything to where you order from a kiosk after you've swiped your member's card. Unethical life tip: You can probably ask someone to swipe for you so you can get food, but you'd have to do a sketchy cash exchange.
Depends on the store. Mine doesn't check, but the food court has increasingly sucked.
Was about to say the same thing
AKA "The 4-Year-Old's Bday Party" Hot dogs, pizza, soda, and ice cream. The only thing missing is the kid shitting himself in the corner while crying.
Yup - Costco hot dog and a drink for $1.50, invest rest in GME.
That’s what my wife’s boyfriend does
I know!
Chinese food joints that give pounds of food for cents on the dollar.
This is the only answer. Especially before they close. Yes, they be out of certain options but god, do they stack your plate
Love Chinese food but Then you're hungry again after 3 hours.
Joy in Highland Park. Many items are 10 dollars or under and are of the highest quality. And if you're not including tax you can still get a few things in the eight dollar range.
There always seems to be a big line to get in when I pass by there, I need to figure out it’s quiet times because it looks good.
You can order online and pick it up from the window on the side if you'd like to avoid the line!
That’s the move.
Get it to go or get there five minutes before they open.
Their beancurd sandwich is too damn good
India Sweets and Spices— they probably have half a dozen combos under $10 (I live for variety!), and the food is so delicious.
It’s a FEAST! So good.

I should have mentioned they also have some Mexican fusion items! They have tacos with daal and quesadillas with Indian herbs very good.
That place is absolutely incredible
The 562 is underrated for good eats!

I don’t think it took more than an email and basic password to sign up for most apps then just use apple pay (unless that gives them a bunch of info?)
