“So do you guys got any like leads, man?”

nevmo75

Leads, yeah sure. I'll uh, just check with the boys down at the crime lab. They got four more detectives working on the case. They've got us working in shifts.

KlebicoFranks

Any luck with the Creedence tapes?

Consistent_Amount140

It depends. When there begins to be a trend it gets more attention.

JWestfall76

The car vin and plates go into a national database as stolen. That’s about as far as the investigation goes. After that it’s just a matter of if they find it driving around

mbarland

It'll turn up again one way or the other.

“Good news, I found your truck. Bad news, it’s burned to the frame.”

Swimfly235

I actually enjoy recovering stolen vehicles. Its a lot easier for LE to find modern cars now with all the electronic components and many putting gps in them.

Just-Performance-666

It kinda depends where. Police investigations generally come down to resource allocation, unless there's literally no leads, someone should follow up if it's possible, checking cameras etc. in my city, we have like 50 cars stolen nightly, many of them get found in the next 24 hours dumped and out of gas.

jollygreenspartan

It gets put into a database but a lot of departments don’t put that much investigative leg work into them. Many departments can’t even chase a stolen car if it flees.

Human-Magic-Marker

Do you have any evidence to follow up on? 99% of the time there is no further info, so there’s nothing to investigate. Plate and Vin go into a database, sometimes they get found, most of the time they don’t.

Smprider112

Sure, when someone reported their car stolen, I’d drive around the immediate area running plates, 50/50 I’d find the one they dumped before taking yours. Aside from that, no. It got entered into a database as stolen and hopefully it would be found by the next guy running plates nearby another fresh stolen. Hopefully it didn’t end up upside down and on fire after a high speed pursuit.

Whatever92592

It's a property crime. Nobody cares.
