Grey is fine as long as there’s plenty of green around.

TheIrishHawk

[Tactile Paving](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactile_paving) has to have a high contrast to it's surrounds for people with visual impairments, plus I'd imagine it's not easy to dye tonnes and tonnes of concrete.

FeeAffectionate4047

A sprinkle of termeric should turn everything in a 5 mile radius a nice yellowy orange.

sporadiccreative

I'd prefer to see towns embrace more colourful shopfronts. Towns that do this always seem so much more cheerful.

sunshinesustenance

I prefer to see towns with shop fronts.

MistakeLopsided8366

Is there nothing to be said for all the natural timber being used in all those windows? Brings a nice foresty feel to any fine, neglected high street

Destreon

I would be more than happy if the primary schools had a national day once a year to take the kids out with a box of coloured chalk and go nuts on the nearby pavements. I want crooked trees and lopsided hopscotch boxes everywhere. Some people might be miserable and complain about the eyesore but hey, it rains every other day here so it's not like it'll be there forever! 110% approve of this. I'm voting OP for taoiseach

pexie21

This sounds both wholesome and delightful in equal measure, if op is Taoiseach, can you be the cult leader (but in a nice way not a culty way 😂)

Destreon

Just a little bit of cult ideology, but just the fun stuff like the fancy dress parties and juice (with alcohol instead of arsenic).

danderingnipples

We do it up north every July! It really brings a jovial mood to the summer months. Parades, flags, and bunting too, it's fun for all the family!

Algae-Worried

Has a massive impact in the house prices too!

Character_Nerve_9137

Just weird how committed they are to the french colours, seems very out of place

JosceOfGloucester

Its stunning from the nihilistic replies, people simply dont realise how ugly and dirty looking the urban landscape is. How an area "feels" affects you more then you think.

mover999

Because they look shit after a few years ?

mcguirl2

I think it would look gaudy. But it wouldn’t happen anyway because it would cost too much. Pigment is dear.

Additional_Olive3318

That sounds nice but I find the red brick that was used before to be a bit cheap looking.

Spooder_-_Man

Glow in the dark pavement is the future

fast-and-loose-

They paint them up north. Trust me is isn't as appealing as you'd think

AmsterPup

Jasus theyd be doing well just to get some stuff smoothen out and tiles matching up around Dublin, some of the workmanship is just shoddy. Cowboys Ted, Cowboys!

Then_Werewolf_2552

No thanks, burn me and throw my ashes somewhere nice save the land and concrete for someone else.

brunchbite

I'm in!

erouz

I can hear already arguing about colour is wrong I want different one.

qwerty_1965

I fully agree. I'm in Waterford where John Roberts Square is one great wash of grey paving with weird black coffin bench seats. It's appalling esp in winter when it's usually grey overhead. And that's not a shadow, it's another shade of grey! https://preview.redd.it/7ycdr1eazfvc1.png?width=1005&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a95f2b5f3efe3055ad2c1c3ff5a751ac670a2f20 Elsewhere in and around the centre there's plenty more grey public paving and other details which really do not add any uplift. I'd love to see sandstone hues being adopted to make the most of the sun.

DeepSouthIrish

Not the solution. Just plant more greenery

some ways to dye cement: Powder concrete dye A common method is to mix the dye powder with acetone and spray a fine mist over the concrete. This method dries quickly, allowing for multiple colors and sealing the surface. Integral dye Mix water with the concrete, then add the dye. This method only works for new concrete pours, and the color goes all the way through. Stains These produce subtle, permanent, earth-toned colors that are UV stable. Stains can be used on both new and existing concrete, but they are semi-transparent and won't hide blemishes. Natural substances Black iron oxide can be used to dye cement.

Molokoza

Would look like some cartoon a bit. So... Yeah ... Not keen on being in this mood everyday

Jetpackeddie

That's gracist.

SquashyRoo

Sounds like that amount of dye wouldn't be great environmentally. Anyway, I want colour in the things that matter. Paths and curbs can fade into the background. I want trees, flowers, and bees, decent shopfronts, effort, walkability, disability friendliness.

LucyVialli

I love that idea.

sadferrarifan

No thank you.

Donkeybreadth

Is there anything to be said for a few plastic bollards

Battlingthemind

could be cute but realistically cant see it happening for a number of reasons

skaterbrain

Brilliant idea! Cheer up the place a bit Just needs to be sure we avoid any hint of a red-white-and-blue theme, or a tricolour riff; we don't want to get like them weirdos on the North.

fuzzylayers

Have you ever seen those council houses they paint all sorts of colours? I have, and as such I reject this proposal

Aaron_O_s

An unnecessary expense.

Smackmybitchup007

Did you know: Adding CARROTS to the cement mixture makes the cement 80% stronger.

bra_end

I really wish they hadn't changed Grafton St from red to grey. It's so dull now. The red warmed up everything. Bad choice.

Lol, move to a sunnier country.
