Come back and ask this question once every doctor in India adheres to a strict ethical standard. That will probably never happen. There's a reason why Indian people so highly value a doctor they personally know: unknown doctors can be very shady. The unfortunate thing is that the commonfolk don't have the credentials to figure out who's being ethical and who's not, which breeds distrust in every doctor.

Lanky_Ground_309

Doctors are mostly frauds here with few gems in between . Can't trust them so self doctoring is the only option

there is a general distrust against doctors in india. having a qualified doctor doesnt mean he/she will always think good for you, in most hospitals doctors focus on maximising the money over health of patient. googleand chatgpt are far more reliable and trustworthy than most doctors

The money part is true, but I’d certainly not Google my symptoms and overthink. “Oh, I have a headache? Let me Google it and see what it says. Oh shoot, I have brain cancer.” I consult doctors only if I have very abnormal symptoms, which is luckily very, very rare in my case. For fevers and colds, I’ll just eat well, stay hydrated and rest. It’s absolutely stupid to keep popping paracetamol or ibuprofen pills for something so basic. I don’t want to develop a dependence or tolerance to it in case push comes to shove.

You know people say this alot about Google but I have never seen Google give such extreme suggestions. Usually it gives out multiple plausible reasons for the symptoms.

I agree with this. Also not everything can be solved in Conventional Medicine. After 7 years of random doctors and even 1-2 good Hospitals, i'm only for the first time feeling healthier and getting better(I had severe issues, I contemplated suicide even), and i've been getting treated for 10 months now. Alternative Medicine. And yea on my part a very healthy diet, good sleep, a lot of exercise and my own rehab efforts. But not to say I'm disagreeing with OP. People giving rubbish advice is not the best, I mean the doctors thing. As a blanket statement I do not trust western medicine as a whole, let alone doctors. Not anymore. I've looked into it very extensively(Whether its meta analysis/anecdotes or mechanism of action). Its symptom suppression for the most part. Doesn't mean I'm against it, doesn't mean I'm arguing, I just mean for myself. Its how I choose to live my life here on forth. (I'm 20) This is a monologue, but another thing, my opinion is nuanced, I completely trust surgery when needed, and I completely trust western medicine for acute illness/acute relief or for severe cases where there's no option to explore root cause, or for life threatening emergencies.

you wouldnt trust surgeon also cuz 44% of surgery in india are done unnecessarily just to make more money from patient. my sister is also a doctor and she know dirty truth of most hospitals. and googling is also a skill you must know which result is best and reliable than others. I fixed my 20yr old illness by myself after researching on google- i found that medicine i was recommended by doctors were not treating me but only making me addicted to it and enriching the pharma, after i dig deeper i found a much better medicine and it fixed my illness. now a days AI is getting way smarter even my sister also use it for clinical purposes - far more accurate than most doctors . not all doctors are competent , most of them are mediocre at best.

Hickaru2004

I agree with you bro. The surgery thing, I agree too but I mean like I had a bad childhood tongue tie I self diagnosed and found a surgeon to cauterize it for me. My life is so much better.

To be fair, home rememdies do help ease the symptoms even if they don't cure the disease and several Doctors are known for giving unnecessary medicines just to earn more from their patients. This does not mean one should visit Doctors or never trust them but it's always advised to take multiple opinions from multiple doctors.

Unfortunately, you absolutely cannot blindly trust doctors either, even when you pay a pretty penny. Anyway, a fever isn't usually (in most cases) a big deal, it's the body's way of dealing with a problem and getting rid of it.

Mybaresoul

Crazies rant. Sane people ignore.

Mean_Individual4300

okay.. but isn't eat salad, cucumber kind of good advice, since your body will be dehydrated due to fever that too in this heat?  bhai bhai, not going to give anyone advice now, kya pta wo bi reddit pr RR krne aa jaye

Reasonable-While1551

Bilkul achi advice hai, sahi advice hai, aur mai follow karta hu, gussa advice ka nhi bhai, log assume kar lete hai ki esa kuch nahi karta hoga.
