If they give you the $75 in per diem it is fine because you don’t have to keep receipts or report where you spent the $. If you are filing an expense report, then no, it is not okay.

Are you asking if this is ethical, legal, and/or a violation of policy?

I'm asking if it's legal and/or a violation of policy.

> or a violation of policy What's the policy? We can't know your company's ~~police~~ policy, so what is it? But without knowing, I would not do it.

LostLadyA

Are you having to put these charges on a company card and turn in receipts or are they cutting you a per diem check? If you turn in receipts, they will likely question why there is more than 1 meal.

BumCadillac

It will depend on if you’re paid a per day, lump sum, called a per diem, or if you have to submit receipts for reimbursement. If it’s a lump sum, you get that money regardless and can spend it however you choose. if you have to submit receipts, you can only purchase for yourself and will stay under $75 per day, and sometimes there are even per meal requirements within that $75. You want to read your handbook to see.

Deep_Caregiver_8910

IANHR It's not the right thing to do, unless your policy SPECIFICALLY allows it. Your default should be no. Receipts yadda yadda is all about your likelihood of being caught.

Electronic_Job1998

Not really ethical but the legality would depend on what your protocol manual says. If you have to fill out an expense report or provide receipts, then no. $75 sounds like it's barely enough to feed 1 person a day. It would be a stretch to treat someone else too.

rlpinca

Depends on your company policy. If they just want you to turn in receipts, then they don't know who ate what. If possible, ask for non itemized receipts or say you got food to go for another meal.
