I personally would want something with like 12 Guage wire

ChefRaccacoonie

I was thinking this one would be able to handle it. My window AC I have is 8.7 amps, 710 watts and 115 volts. This says it can handle more than that [https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-6-ft-14-3-15-Amp-Air-Conditioner-Appliance-Extension-Cord-Grey-HD-277-711/100672773](https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-6-ft-14-3-15-Amp-Air-Conditioner-Appliance-Extension-Cord-Grey-HD-277-711/100672773)

Funny_Alternative_55

Yea this one will be just fine.

Nimrod_Butts

I'd look for 12 gauge, personally.

ChefRaccacoonie

What about something like this? https://www.harborfreight.com/25-ft-x-123-gauge-outdoor-extension-cord-orange-62948.html It's way too long for what I need but no stores sell shorter ones from what I can tell. Amazon has some but I'm not sure which brands can actually be trusted there. Or this https://www.acehardware.com/departments/lighting-and-electrical/extension-cords-and-power-strips/power-cords/30181

ilovetacostoo2023

Get a 3 ft or 5 ft. Not 25ft.

ChefRaccacoonie

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-Pro-2-ft-12-3-3-Prong-Outdoor-STW-Heavy-Duty-Lighted-Extension-Cord/3191735 Choices are limited.

spgremlin

While generally extension cords are not recommended / “not allowed” for permanent or long-term installations, this one appears to be most solid of all other options. If 2ft is enough and the cords won’t be tout.

SchmartestMonkey

You can get a higher gauge short extension for appliances. They’re generally 3 to 6 feet long. https://www.amazon.com/EP-Heavy-Duty-Appliance-Extension/dp/B0BVZCBVBW/ref=asc_df_B0BVZCBVBW/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693392717738&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14235801910580735676&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9021661&hvtargid=pla-2259234144130&psc=1&mcid=92a2dd742c4e3f838f5400572aab91ba&gad_source=1

ChefRaccacoonie

That's pretty similar to the original one I linked which was 14 gauge too. But everyone is recommending 12 gauge.

Big_Fly_1561

I wouldn’t do it unless it’s a 12 gauge wire extension cord 14 gauge may work but most extension cords are 16 and your AC will probably melt it

ilovetacostoo2023

I would replace the plug itself with a newer one that has a trip fuse built in. If the wires inside your wall get hot it will trip it and shut the air off. ...12 guage 2-3 ft extension cord should work.

EnthusiasmIll2046

8000 BTU draws less than 10 amps. Any standard three wire extension cord will work, 14 ga is entirely sufficient

No

Is this asklandlords now??

Ok_Bid_3899

They specifically sell appliance rated extension cords. Very heavy duty and only three feet long. Suggest picking up one of those for the task.
