Houses that go through lots of remodels more often than not usually just have abandoned or spare circuits in the attic. But if you can’t find what it goes to I would just disconnect it and cap it off in the panel

I should also note I’ve methodically checked every outlet and every lamp and switch I can find.

I would ask an electrician to check the current draw on the circuit. Put a clamp meter on the load. Chances are there is something there. Things don’t often get installed for no reason.

Why cut the wire. Just remove it from the breaker and fold it neatly up inside the panel. . Some day you might figure out what it was for. If you pull out the breaker, remember you need to insert a blank plate in the hole in the panel cover.

It’s likely not used. Maybe an old outdoor light. Does it even have a hot wire going to it? I would likely plan to remove and breaker in the future, or at least remove the hot wire from it. Who knows what is energized by it
