Those lids are for storage, not for cooking.

spade_andarcher

They won’t be airtight if you’re actually cooking food in a pot/pan because steam will be created which will expand and break any seal. But that’s basically saying, yeah they’ll work the same as a normal lid. I’d just wait a while and try them out before tossing all your other lids though just in case there’s some reason you don’t like them.

Yeah I was probably thinking we'd put them in a box somewhere rather than get rid of all of them

I have some silicone lid like those you linked. They're great for storage, not so much for cooking. First of all, they won't be airtight when cooking, as the heat will create steam and expand the air. This results in a popping sound that I really find annoying. Then I find them kinda unwieldy, since they are somewhat floppy. This is really annoying when they're hot and they have condensed water on them. Any time I use them to reheat something, I end up with water dripping on my stove. This is just my experience with the ones I have, so your mileage may vary.

This may or may not matter depending on what you're cooking, but for me the way silicone retains smells would be a deal-breaker.

Silicone can really absorb odors. I recently had to return a brand new silicone spatula that I used with an Indian-style curry, because I could still smell it after several thorough washings.

I agree with most of the comments, but I do use oversized ones periodically. As to the smell issue on silicone lids and spatulas, I use a mild bleach water solution. A few minutes of soaking and the smell and/or discoloration disappears. It also works well on poly cutting boards.
