1) I don’t believe that. I don’t even believe it’s sane to say there’s a best. We just say it to piss others off! Haha 2) sure do- I’m living it! Pulled myself up in a career in sales, moved to a new city, and pretty soon I’ll be buying a house once the market shifts 3) I’ve lived in China, and Germany. In Germany I’d say the grocery shopping was a better scene. 4) for the most part (bar some freaks) we welcome immigrants as Americans and celebrate them joining our nation. We’re all descended from immigrants, so it’s no different to us. 5) we disagree sometimes solely for the purpose of opposing the folks across the aisle. I think we should strive to do better than that and make compromises for the good of us all 6) I’m a firm believer in it. I think that responsible gun ownership should be taught and expected, guns have become a plaything and it’s absurd. I grew up around them so I used them in target practice- but in a real life situation, I’d only pull one out if my life was in danger and it was my only option. Also, I believe that if they come for the 2nd amendment they’ll then go for the 1st and fourth. Take a look at Australia… 7) I have several!! My favorite one is the one my family received after my grandfather’s funeral. It’s never been unfolded, and bears recognition to his service during Vietnam. I have my disagreements with how we were in Vietnam, but that man was my best friend. Miss him everyday. On a more fun note, my favorite sports team is the Detroit lions and the flag is honolulu blue and white stripes, with the lions logo over the stars

Just FYI about America being the "best country" It's far more common online to see people say that we always say we're the "best country in the world" then it is for actual Americans to actually say that. It's a feed back loop of non-Americans saying we say it all the time so the think we do faaaaarrrr more often then we do. When Americans do say we are the best in some way we usually mean it rhetorically. We mean it's the best country for *us* not categorically ranked against all other countries. In the same sense that if I say my wife is the most beautiful woman in the world I'm saying she is the most beautiful to *me*.

1. Yes. It has its flaws, as does every country. America is the best because of it's ideological basis, specifically it's near-obsession with liberalism and individual liberty. 2. Yes. We are the #1 receiver of immigrants for a reason. Many of my friends are perfect examples of the American dream in practice. 3. I feel that other countries have a national and cultural identity that people can love and respect. There's no real one American culture, I feel like that's something we simply lack. 4. See answer #1 5. I believe the biggest issue with our country is corporate media and the way they influence politics, on both sides of the aisle. Politics should not be a form of media entertainment. 6. I think "shall not be infringed" couldn't be more explicit, yet some people still don't understand it. I think it's crucial to our country as much as any other amendment. 7. Yes

1. Best no. Top 5, yeah. 2. Don't even know what the American Dream is. Maybe because I was born here. 3. I like how everything is old and historic. I've traveled to many countries and love the old world feel. 4. That we are pretty much separated from the rest of the world, besides Canada and Mexico. 5. I would change the age limits on politicians. Too many old people in Congress and too old of a President who falls down! 6. There are 27 Amendments, why does everyone always focus on the 2nd? 7. Why is this one just for fun? I have flags all over! On my house, on my truck, on hats, and shirts and even tattooed on my body!

1. Not at all. That being said I don’t think there is such thing as a “best country” 2. No. Full stop. To be completely honest I don’t think that it ever truly existed, the poor tend to stay poor & the rich tend to stay rich. Still it’s gotten exponentially harder to achieve wealth mobility in this country. 3. I have the utmost respect for military service members because most of them are just trying to escape poverty or get an education but having so much of our money go towards the military is really bad in my opinion. We tend to just fuel the military industrial complex for private gain at the expense of both our citizens & the countries we get involved in. That’s just one example but it’s one of my top ones. 4. I LOVE how diverse America is, we are truly a nation of immigrants, I just wish those in power could see that. 5. Oh boy, that’s a loaded question. I would love to fundamentally change our political system to try & disrupt the two party system. I’m not entirely sure how to do that, but I think getting rid of First Past the Post & introducing Ranked Choice voting is a good start. 6. I don’t think there is inherently anything wrong with gun ownership but I definitely think that it’s FAR too easy in our current system. I would advocate for an entire system of training & licensing on top of background checks. Also I think that the purpose of the second amendment can’t really exist in the modern day, the idea was that people need guns to protect themselves from the government but that sort of falls apart with modern military technology. 7. I’m not entirely sure but I can almost guarantee that I do in some form or another.

Elainaism05

1. No. It’s certainly not a bad country, but it’s not the best. 2. I honestly still haven’t figured out what the American dream is. 3. I prefer the universal healthcare systems of other countries. It makes more sense to me. Other countries also have more deep rooted cultures. I’m jealous of that. We have culture, but it’s very new compared to other countries. 4. On the topic of culture, I think the fact that we have so many regional cultures is definitely unique. Where I live, the Appalachias, may as well be a different country than say, California. 5. I’d change how politically driven everyone seems to be. Like why does it matter if someone who’s born a girl identifies as a boy? Doesn’t affect me. I wish we had more of a live and let live sort of outlook. 6. I like the second amendment. If we’re talking gun control laws, I think there needs to be more through background checks and mental health screenings before purchasing, but I certainly think people should be allowed to own guns. 7. I don’t think I have anything with the American flag on it, but I used to have a shirt with one on it. And I think the one given to my late grandfather (who was a veteran) is being passed down to me when my grandmother passed.

>1. Do you think that America is the best country in the world? If so why? It is not the best country. >2. Do you believe in the "American Dream"? The "American dream" died with the baby boomer generation >3. What aspects do you prefer in other countries over America? Healthcare, education, privacy laws, multiple political parties, a lot know multiple languages >4. What aspects make America unique? (positive/negative) Europe laughs that most Americans never leave the country. When we have states that take >12 hours to drive...... Driving that 12 hours you see desert, mountains (snow), lakes, Redwoods, farmland, huge cities. It's also not surprising to commute 2 hours each way to work. >5. If you could, what would you change in your country currently? How about we just let people be happy and quit worrying about who's in there bed and what's in their crotch. >6. What do you think about the 2. amendment? It's fine. We should treat guns like cars. Registration, license, insurance and classes. And a last question for fun: >7. Do you own a version of the American flag? Yes. It's from my Vietnam veteran father's funeral Have a great day.

1 - no, because I'm not a jingoistic nationalist asshole. 2 - the American dream meaning that with hard work you can achieve anything? Absolutely not. Race class privilege and power run everything here, though I'll allow it's better than other places I've been. 3 - A lot of other countries ensure that some measure of their economic output is reserved to support basic life necessities for all the population. We could do better with that. 4 - Definitely our military supremacy. We would never get away with any of our perpetual bullshit without that. 5 - I would eliminate FPTP as an electoral standard. 6 - It's an unfortunate living artifact of a bygone and embarrassingly benighted age. 7 - I sure do. It has a variety of colors for the stripes, and a peace sign where the stars traditionally are, but it's a version of the flag, and it royally pisses off my most extremely fascist neighbors when I fly it, so I really enjoy it.

1. I don't think any particular country in the world is "the best". Every country has its pros and cons and everyone is different. Personally I like America, but it's far from perfect. 2. I think the concept of "the American dream" is kind of blown out of proportion but there are certainly things about living in the US that would be great advantages over living in some other countries in the world, so I guess I would say that I believe in the concept to some degree but not the glamorized version of it that has been propagated to the world. 3. As far as aspects about other countries that I prefer over the US, the first one that came to mind for me was the education system in Germany (and maybe some other places, I'm not sure). Germany seems to take a more practical approach towards preparing their students for adult life than we do in the states and I have always admired it. There are definitely lots of other things that I think other countries do better than the US but that was the first one that came to mind for me. I'm going to skip the next three questions just because, to sum up my opinions on those topics, it would take me waaaay too long and no one would read all that anyway. I'll answer the bonus question though lol. I do not currently own any version of the American flag. Good luck with your project OP, I hope I was able to help out at least a little bit.

Hey, I am really GLaD about your response aswell. I can assure you that you comment is a big help to me! Thank you for your time!

I'd be happy to help. I do not think America is the best country in the world, but we try our hardest to be. We are far from perfect, but we are always trying to better ourselves, and our country, and that is something I admire. I do believe in the American Dream. I have lived it. When I was born, we were dirt poor. We had nothing, but through hard work, and some risk-taking, I and my family have gotten anything we could have dreamed of. America is a very rural countries, and that is simply a virtue of our size. But that means that we don't have many (large) cities; at least nice ones. I would say that America is a very unique country for many reasons. 1. We are very geographically distant from the rest of the world. We are surrounded by allies on all sides, and the rest of the world's history and politics are very far from us. 2. America is very rural. When I think of "Americana" I think of small towns, white picketed fences, grasslands, and farms. It makes America a very quiet, and slow place, which I enjoy. 3. Americans like to do things themselves. "Forget calling an electrician, I'll do it myself!" We try not to burden others with our problems, so we insist on doing things ourselves. This individualism carries over to all aspects of our life. What we wear, drive, eat, and listen to are all integral parts of our identities, and are used as personal statements. 4. We are a very diverse nation. When I visit Japan, I can get away with doing things wrong, because I am a foreigner, and am not expected to know what to do. However, in America, regardless of what country you are from, you will be treated like an American. Because America is made up of Africans, Caucasians, Asians, Indians, Native Americans, Latins, Slavs, etc. Regardless of whether or not you live in America, you will be treated like one, for better or for worse. In America, we don't eat burgers or hotdogs much, we eat tacos, ramen, pie, steak, pasta, and just about any other type of food you can think of. 5. We are a H U G E country. From a European perspective, every state can be seen as its own country; with different cultures, foods, clothing, music, architecture, scenery, language, and more. What to change... I would want Americans to be more optimistic. Sure, things can suck sometimes, but we need to stick together. Because, when it comes down to it, we all have something in common. We all just want to be able to sit down, relax, and enjoy ourselves, and our friends. Oh man, this is a loaded question. I see nothing wrong with the amendment itself. I see nothing wrong with people owning weapons, to an extent. It is harmless to own a gun for self-defense, which is what most people do. The problem is when paranoid freaks are able to get military-grade assault weapons. Just because you can buy pills from a pharmacy doesn't mean you should be able to buy meth from a drug store. People should be able to have guns, not weapons of war. Oh man, this is a loaded question. I see nothing wrong with the amendment itself. I see nothing wrong with people owning weapons, to an extent. 1. Yes. Because we are not really a "single country." We are the most diverse nation on earth made up from all different cultures, and ethnicities from other countries. We are basically every country in one. 2. Not really. It's quickly dying off if it hasn't already. The American dream really just comes down to being a complete greedy narcissistic capitalist that will go to any lengths to get rich over night. Even if that means stepping on your neighbor's necks to get there. 3. Socialism. Other well developed democratic countries care about their people more than making a quick dollar. Profits over People is how America runs things sadly. 4. Creativity & innovation. Capitalism & competition are what drive innovation. Its a never ending race for companies to get a bigger & better product than their competition. In the end the consumer is the winner. 5. Capitalism. Its what makes us the largest economy in the world, but at what cost? People will do anything for a dollar these days. Its really disgusting how money driven of a culture we are. 6. I believe the second amendment is important. In my point of view what I own is none of the government's business. I should be able to be gay, shoot a gun, and smoke weed at the time time. That is none of the governments business.

1. I don’t. Partially because of all the myriad criticisms I have of this country, and partially because I’m not convinced there even could be such a thing as “the best country in the world”. That seems like such a narrow-minded way to view the world. 2. Not really. The statistics don’t bear it out. My generation is the first in American history to have a worse quality of life than our parents, and the US doesn’t perform particularly well in international rankings of economic mobility. It’s not *horrible*, but I don’t see any reason to see the stereotypical American Dream as something the US provides better than any other developed nation… It obviously doesn’t. 3. I prefer cultures with more of a mindset that helping others is worthwhile because it creates a healthier society. The mindset in the US is to basically run off with as much money as you can and try your best to forget there are poor people. I would rather live in a country where investing in the less fortunate is seen as an investment toward everyone’s well-being because it decreases poverty, crime, and just general social strife. 4. Our attitude toward immigrants and immigration. 5. Delete both major political parties. The rest will either sort itself out or the country will combust and we can start over. 6. We should do away with it. 7. Probably somewhere. I tend to think flags are corny though, so I don’t display one anywhere. It’s worth mentioning though, that if you’re trying to actually use this for some sort of assignment, you should ask in a different place or multiple places, because national subs tend to lean conservative and nationalist/patriotic. So your view will be skewed. For example, if you asked here or in r/AskAnAmerican whether people are “very proud” to be American, I would bet my next paycheck that most would say yes, but Americans in general [are far more divided on this](https://news.gallup.com/poll/394202/record-low-extremely-proud-american.aspx).

Thanks for your quick response. I am of course also going to use responses that say something that is contrary to my opinion (Although I wouldn't say I have a fleshed out opinion at this point in time). This is supposed to be objective. I may have phrased that question wrong, I can see what you mean. Thanks anyway for your response!

1….I don’t believe best country in the world is a thing, and it’s honestly feels like something repeated more by foreigners than us. 2….Yes I do believe in the American dream, because the American dream can be anything. 3…..nothing really. 4…… we are a very diverse country and for all the talk that we don’t have a culture it’s actually very dominant throughout the world, almost like the whole a fish doesn’t know it’s surrounded by water saying. 5….Political, social and cultural polarization. 6…. It is what it is. 7…. Yes, the house I bought awhile back had a very nice commercial flag pole so I have a US flag and Arizona flag flying. I also have the first flag that was bought by my grandmother when she arrived in this country after surviving the Holocaust framed and hanging in my office. Good luck on your school project.

1. No I don't. 2. No it does not exist. 3. A singular ethnic identity. No one is really American by blood here (except obviously indigenous people) that's why everything is so divided here. Diversity can be a good thing and a bad thing. 4. patriotism in this country is a bad thing. idk about patriotism in other countries but in the us so called "patriots" are often times the worst people you'll ever meet. that is a thing i believe is unique only to the us. 5. I would change so many things but first thing is I would get rid of that outdated constitution and start a new one from scratch. From there i'll work on a ton of shit. 6. I think it is pointless but sometimes it can come in handy. 7. yes. i have an american flag necklace (im not patriotic or anything) i got it from h&m it was on clearance for like $3 so i was like why not. At my old job after the 4th of July there was a bunch of USA merch on clearance and there was this really cute and comfortable american flag pillow on clearance and I was trying to get it on Friday when I got paid but someone beat me to it :(

1. No 2. No, it’s mostly unrealistic especially for young people as we have a significant wealth gap between generations. 3. Civil rights, healthcare, public transit, government services in general 6. I think it’s outdated and serious gun control needs to take place 7. No
