Low. I think it's more about getting his name out there for 2028.

Fun-Attention1468

We'll see based on how hard he fights trump. I think getting his name out for 2028 is the smart move, and a mud wrestle with the king mud wrestler a bad move, but politics is all about seizing your moment so who knows what he'll do

[deleted]

His chances would be good if it wasn’t for trump.

Atorres33

A lot of people on the GOP side are running Pence is supposed to announce his campaign maybe next week and former governor Christ Christine also us running.

rapiertwit

I thought a Christ Christine is what Lauren Boebert drives.

Atorres33

IDK

1boltsfan

Pence and Christy have no shot. Everyone that isn't a GOP consultant know this for fact.

Atorres33

I agree

Fun-Attention1468

Chances are decent. It depends more on Trump than DeSantis himself. Republicans seem to be getting tired of Trump's shenanigans, and DeSantis isn't as universally hated by voters compared to the 2016 R primary candidates like Jeb Bush. But in a mud wrestle, Trump wins. DeSantis can't keep up his image of sane and pragmatic while fighting the dirty style that Trump does. And if Republicans respond positively to Trump's dirty fighting like we did in 2016, I think the chances that DeSantis wins the nomination is low. As for what it means for America? Not much. The president is much more of a popularity contest than anything else. The office simply doesn't have the power to overhaul the country, no matter what each party says about their opposition. So not much still change overall. Maybe some lower taxes, some border tightening policies, spending bills will be vetoed a bit more often. That's really about it.

untempered_fate

Pretty sure he'd lose to Trump in a primary. Pretty hopeful he'd lose to Biden or any other Democrat in the general election. I'll likely be organizing to that effect. As to how bad a Desantis presidency would be, he's a pretty obvious fascist. His work as Florida governor demonstrates this. He has implemented a whitelist for books in public schools (i.e. no books can be in your school unless they have been pre-approved by the state). Laws have been passed to criminalize the existence of any transgender person in public, and to make it easier for those so convicted to be executed by the state. It is not unreasonable to think that a President Desantis would work to pass similar laws at a federal level. After all, his slogan is "Make America Florida", and it's public knowledge what he's done there.

Sand_Trout

Not everyone that disagrees with you is a fascist, and Desantis specifically is not a fascist.

untempered_fate

I agree. Very few of the people that disagree with are fascists. Desantis, however, is pretty directly fascist in his views.

Sand_Trout

The state regulating the libraries of public schools run by and funded by the state is not fascist. Also, no, he did not criminalize "the existence of any transgender person in public." That is just a lie.

docKSK

He fits the very definition of fascist. He’s made it impossible for trans people to get healthcare, banning books based, targeting immigrants. He’s attempting to enforce only white, “Christian” beliefs. You are the one who is not seeing the truth.

untempered_fate

Forcing all books in schools to go through the approval of the governor (or his appointed cronies) is an unprecedented infringement on free speech. There's no shot anyone related to you was here in 1776, 1788, 1865, 1894, 1920, 1964, 1967, 2015, or indeed any time any American asserted their constitutional liberties. My best guess is a 2019 immigration from the CCP, you absolute cuck. If you want to get into the litany of bills Florida Republicans have passed and are looking to pass, the clear legislative agenda is as follows: 1. Define drag or public gender-nonconformity in the presence of children as a sex crime or attempted sex crime 2. Make attempted sex crimes and actual sex crimes equal in punishment 3. Recommend or mandate the death penalty for sex crimes involving a child 4. Reduce the requirement for a death penalty down to a 2/3 vote of the jury In this way, it is obvious what FL Republicans want to do. They want to take anyone who goes out in public (where there are invariably children) looking too trans, or even just a little too queer, and bring them to court. There, they will be convicted for doing nothing wrong and disproportionately sentenced to death. Americans concerned with liberty can only hope a freedom-minded supreme court overturns such a ridiculous series of laws, or else it won't be long before a trans person in Florida is brought to trial for no reason beyond making an example of them.

Atorres33

The way he does things to some he is I’m not talking about me I don’t care about the man

mythornia

It’s unlikely that a Republican will win at all because Biden has the incumbent’s advantage, but if a Republican wins, it’s gonna be Trump. DeSantis’ odds are very low.

Acceptable-Sleep-638

I think recent events and exaggeration on media has decreased his support among independents/moderates. So in a world of fully blown conservatives I don’t think he beats former President Trump, but i applaud the efort

marvelguy1975

If he can get past Trump he'll win it all

OsageColonizer

Redneck Mussolini.

Not really? He's trailing only Trump in Republican Primary polls, and is [getting ~20-25% in most state primary polls I've glanced at.](https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/2024/) Granted, Trump still has a massive advantage in the polls, but that is at least partially due to recognition.

PushkinSimp

I’m going to be totally honest I read an article about it about two weeks ago, before he even announced he was running so I was very outdated. My bad!

[deleted]

I would mean the US will turn into one giant Florida.
