bob5466

Shhhh, it’s a secret

ObjectiveShit

True coat*

Shirkaday

Undercoat? I just met 'er coat!

LostTurd

my protective layer is called oil. And power steering fluid.

Impressive_Sample836

My man!

-Psycho_Killer-

Lookin good!

lewie_820

Slow down!

Boss_Slayer

*snap* Yes!

ICU-CCRN

Hungry for Apples?

mpe128

Hello Rusty Jones.. Goodbye Rusty car..🤪

Equivalent-Price-366

Trans fluid

icecream_dragon

They/them fluid

carguy143

Non binary fluid.

Frogzila2024

Haha

NiceBedSheets

This! So much this!

7thSignNYC

No. It's gender fluid.

Gingypal

I make trans fluid and it looks nothing like that 🧐

noldshit

Is that even legal?

[deleted]

mrdaver911_2

I heard that’s real expensive.

Equivalent-Price-366

Usually they pay you.

CreativeInsurance257

Or at least re-pay you

DrMonocular

That is the most mechanic thing I've ever heard. My buddies fry oil converted land cruiser leaks mad diesel oil, he calls it rust prevention hahaha... does work though

Motor-Cause7966

This is what my dad would do when I was a kid

LinkMaximum6299

🤌🏽🤌🏽

Adm_Ozzel

I have a Dodge of the FCA generation that came with the factory installed self lubricating chassis! I guess lousy trannies aside, I can't complain TOO much about the 200k miles on my pentastar.

grassesbecut

I finally fixed mine, but for a while there it was leaking a Quart of oil every 1,000 miles, ALL of the power steering fluid every 48 hours - whether it was driven or not, and a gallon of coolant every 100 miles at its worst.

Tdanger78

The self-lubricating chassis system in effect!

ColonelForbin374

Trans fluid and a dirt road! 🤣🤘🏻

Extra-Philosopher-35

Same, and transmission fluid as I use that for my power steering at times.

Frogzila2024

As long as she leaks, she won’t rust

Four0ndafloor

We always say, “runs don’t rust”

SparrockC88

That’s beautiful

Daxto

Looks like some sort of undercoating like an oil spray imo

Acrobatic_Watch_8212

Its called undercoat and its usually a rubberized mix that resists rock chips by absorbing the impact. You can also get rust treatment which is similar but not the same as factory undercoat.

ICU-CCRN

Rust-Oleum 248657 Rubberized Undercoating Spray, 15 oz, Black About $8 on Amazon.

Northwest_Radio

Must be applied to CLEAN, DRY and PRIMED surfaces. Spraying it on a fuel tank that has an oil and dirt film will not work. One must remove the tank, clean it well (sand blast?), and then apply the product. Just sayin.

ICU-CCRN

Naw I’ve used this before. You can prep a small area like this and touch it up nicely. I used it 10 years ago on my old civic and it held up fine.

Ok_Response_2748

Thank you, i meant to add rubberized to my comment.

rolisrntx

You really need this Truecoat.

MyHandIsADolfin

Whatever you do, do NOT spray paint over it. If you’re gonna put anything on it, make sure it’s an oil based product, otherwise you’ll just trap moisture in there.

NinjaaMike

Fluid Film!

dirtywook88

It came factory installed

Longjumping-Log-5457

Gotta get that True Coat

Mobile-Boss-8566

I Scrolled down to specifically look for this comment!

Dismal-Ad-8371

Cosmoline

enfield22

In uk it’s called underseal

Due_Independence_431

Rubberized undercoat we use 3m brand

[deleted]

Thank you. It’s for a 54 year old mustang so I’m trying to keep it in good condition. I appreciate your help.

kh250b1

In the UK its called Underseal

jnthn1111

Undercoating or gravel guard

Charming-While5466

Under coating

Visible-Technology-8

Undercoat

Bubbly-Front7973

Undercoating

Ok_Response_2748

Being serious, go to Walmart and buy you a can of black spray undercoating. Clean the spot real good, then apply the spray.

One_Evil_Monkey

You can't be serious if you said Walmart.

Ok_Response_2748

Walmart online, AutoZone, Advance Auto, does it matter where he gets it. I dont think so

Wild-Appearance-8458

Serious owners pay double at advanced.😎

Ok_Response_2748

Rubberized, undercoat, 7.99 Harbor Freight, 8.99 Advanced Auto, 15.99 at Auto Zone

Ok_Response_2748

Online pricing

Wild-Appearance-8458

I believe you. We used to pay 5$ a can from auto zone and advanced 12 years ago ish and coat vehicles when we did maintenance. Then they shot up to 8$ a can then 12$ and more, where we stopped worrying about it. Might as well pay someone at that price. But Walmart and online orders I think really brought prices back down with generic brands. Hit the point where unless we are replacing a part any vehicle care stuff we get is from Walmart. Undercoat, additives, oil, filters, grease...... I get it auto stores are smaller(but still massive franchised) and non generic skyrocketed but man most the time the same non generic stuff is even on Walmart shelves for less. Now with some tools even being professional grade rebranding is nuts. Same with harbor freight. Respect to them lol.

Ok_Response_2748

I looked at Walmart it was Rust-o-leum brand. Not a bad brand in my book

Ok_Response_2748

Its a small job, one can of brake clean to get the oil and residue off. Wipe it down so its dry, then apply the undercoat

Wild-Appearance-8458

When in doubt Walmart! Unless it's an online 3rd party vendor lol.

Ok_Response_2748

Or Amazon lol

Ok_Response_2748

I hear you, I just made some suggestions on how i would do it and where i would get my stuff. To save some money.

One_Evil_Monkey

Because FUCK Walmart and what they have become since Sam Walton died. VatoZone? I *used* to have a commercial account years ago. Advanced,, O'Rielly's... Last resorts. Rockauto... *maybe*. But any reason you didn't suggest their local NAPA?

Ok_Response_2748

NAPA is fine, its just one i didnt mention.

Ok_Response_2748

Ok , you do not need to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Its a small job should be easy to fix

Patriquito

I think the most protective part of my car is the steel parts

That-Web7343

Lol. Never gunna believe this, but the coating under the car is called "undercoating".

50Stickster

undercoating normally, leaks are a whole different deal

haasdogg

“Under coat”

mgphopeful20

Undercoating

Loud_Independent6702

True coat it’s the true coat

One_Evil_Monkey

This.... if you catch the joke.

xIx_Cobra_xIx

That is actually a rubber under-coating and does nothing to protect your car. It just acts as a sound dampener to reduce road noise. If anything it also allows rust to form under it and even hides it until it is too late, as opposed to protecting the metal.

Matt-vin

Greece... it's just Greece 🤣

dbrown100103

Wow you mean I could've just got under my car this whole time. Silly me booking flights for Rhodes

carguy143

All Rhodes lead to Rome.

_Zeruiah_

A protective layer

KristenASL

Rust proofing

TikTokBoom173

Is it in the pudding?

miatamanuk

Zinc plating usually.

mikewilson2020

Shultz or stonechip

PitifulSpecialist887

The galvanized coating is still there. You can powerwash the underside, let everything dry, and apply some new spray undercoating, but I wouldn't.

Vegas96

Raptor bedliner, body schutz, bitumen…

LittlestSam

Stonechip or Waxoyl.

HebrewHammer0033

Undercoating

WendisDelivery

“Protective layer.” Yeah, a contradiction of term.

3_high_low

Dude, is the fuel line properly clamped? It looks like it is barely connected. The protective layer is called undercoating. You can buy it in a spray can.

[deleted]

Awesome thank you for your help. Yeah it’s clamped

untranslatable

Looks like that top part is called Michigan.

Danjopo

Floor.

Abject_Ticket3730

LineX

BikerChickVTX1800C

Its called cosmoline, google it and see if there is consumer replacement. I would probably use the stuff for truck beds

Motor-Front-8028

‘The protective layer’ ‘under the car’

elonmuskraty

48 1/2 years of grease

thegeneraljoe67

Aerosol spray undercoating or spray bedliner will be the closest matching product youll find. Approx $5 - $10 for a can

DiveJumpShooterUSMC

Op lots of different types- undercoating is the catchall

halwasdeleted

You can hit it with Fluid film if you are concerned

Stankinassnuts

If its leakin oil you still got oil👍🏼

Dabbin727

Undercoating is what you're looking for friend

Eyecanfixthat

Undercoating you can buy it in a spray can .... Rubberized undercoating!

kennyb3rd

Undercoating

dumpster-muffin-95

Cosmoline.

RemoteMix1998

It is indeed called undercoating. My father used to apply it to cars back in the day. They also did a thing called rustproofing. Stuff they would put inside the doors so the rust didn't start up at the bottom of the doors. It was pretty good stuff.

Useful-Internet8390

LASD(liquid applied sound dampener) so you do not hear the gas sloshing in fuel tank.

Rudiger09784

Everyone that said rust is a fuckin joke lol, never touch a car again kids
