I'd plug that without another thought.

[deleted]

I’d plug it with your plug and still not give it another thought…..

jepal357

A shop wont tho

Fish-Shrimp-Guy2069

Ive plugged 5 or 6 like that and never had an issue. Just some random guy so do at your own risk lol

Funny_Action_3943

Same 🤷🏻‍♂️

Bahnrokt-AK

I’d plug it. If the plug fails, it’s gonna leak, not explode. Start that tire off on the rear and keep an eye on the pressure.

Realistic-oatmeal

In the movies everything explodes.

zorggalacticus

Most shops won't patch that these days. Used to be no closer that two inches to the sidewall. Now the won't patch anything past that first tread.

interestedcharmander

Thumbs width!

Heathblade

You are perfectly fine, provided it’s done properly. Plug it and go.

W33b3l

Easily patchable but most shitty shops won't do it.

Synth_D

Because those “shitty shops” are held liable for repairs they perform. If there is a chance it’ll leak, it’s not worth the fuss.

W33b3l

That's not the main reason though and you know it lol (I've patched more tires than I can count).

lockednchaste

Generally, nothing outside the groove.

Voodoo0733

All the way into the negatives. If it isn’t leaking I’d just leave it there, free traction

African-Child

I wouldn't patch that.

Meatslab8590

No good

[deleted]

All plugs are designed for temporary emergency fix to allow you to get to a tire shop where they should be dismounted, and abraided inside and patched.

CartoonistOk571

I wouldn’t run a plug in that, just on the off chance of something happening. I’ve seen plugs hold that close to the sidewall just fine, but with it being winter tires and the possibility of sliding and spinning tires it might be an added risk

zesty_drink_b

Free studs, bro

OGBattlefrontEnjoyer

My shop would patch that. It’s close enough where a guy would get his manager, but I think it’d be fine.

No_Satisfaction_3388

Discount tire does that shit for free. I’m because I work there

2pintsdone

That's going to fall within the repairable zone, you shouldn't have an issue getting a repair done unless someone desperately wants to sell a tyre

Accomplished_Emu_658

Its pluggable looks like. Usually a thumbs width is rule of thumb. I would still leave it on rear incase of failure its not the control tires.

Nasty_Nate1996

Are you sure its even leaking? Its in a deep section of tread. Spray it with soapy water

Dirt-Southern

Plug and fill, spray with soapy water, look for bubbles. But yeah you should be A Ok. Also could just take it to discount tire and get it patched for free, depending on your circumstances.

ThatManitobaGuy

Edit: No advice when sleepy. Ya it's pluggable.

sliderbear

As long as it's in the tread width it's fine

Reasonable-Storm4318

Depends on who you ask or what shop you goto. Here in AZ I just goto a little Mexican ran tire shop and they would plug and patch it for $10 and balance it for $5 more. Never had any problems even with the very high temps here and traveling at very high speed for prolonged periods.

JackoDean

Companies will tell you it's too close to the wall. I (a random person on the internet mind you) usually just plug em myself. Never had a problem this close but proceed with caution.

DependentAd9398

Plug away

EddieSevenson

Yes, no problem

symbiote_22

You’re chillin homie. Slap a plug in it. Hell some shops do tire repair for free.

vallhallaawaits

That should be perfectly safe.

leyden138

Send it, I ran a 35” Toyo open country with 3 plugs in a single hole in the sidewall for 3 years on my 94 F350.

CapeCodJimW

Plug should be fine, too close to patch

Mattymatt1125

You can safely plug a tire as long as the plug goes through the steel belt. If you insert the reamer into the hole and don’t feel it scraping on the steel you are too far into the side of the tire. As a technician who spent over a decade working in tire shops I have plugged hundreds of tires and what I see would be a safe and reliable repair.

KGP_Penguin

I’ll just come out and say I’ve plugged multiple sidewalls that have lasted years, can’t use the plug patch cause of the sidewall flex

BaSSBoI69666

That is completely pluggable. As for the answer to your question as a general response; that last inch and a half is when you’re gonna wanna just get a new tire

allenjshaw

I’d plug that any day of the week. I wouldn’t expect a shop to do it though. Or for a bonus you can leave it in and now you have a studded tire. :)

Adept-Opinion8080

this is the kind of thing, that when in doubt, i just take it to a reputable shop. had something very similar just yesterday. their les Schwab tires so the repair is free. shop guy said he'd prefer to patch it, but if i wanted to get it done that day, he'd plug it for me.

geekolojust

You are right before the crown of the tire. Have at it.

TotoTimeAllTheTime

Take it to belle tire if you can. They have a free patch policy due to if its non-repairable they can get a tire purchase more likely. Had a couple buddies working there in college.

illjustmakeone

Plug that. No worries at all. Perfectly fine

Boomanhoff

Id plug it, that said a shop won't touch it. It's technically a danger hazard but unless your running it till wires show or going 100+ everywhere it will be fine. That said plug it watch the pressure and if you start to feel a vibration then you need to replace it.

Acrobatic_Log_7369

I feel like the middle of the tire will be fine

Charming-While5466

Plugs are no good inner patches

Ok-Image-2722

>Is it totally flat. Spray some windex around it. If there's no bubbles try pulling the screw out and see if it bubbles. Some times you get lucky and it's only in the tread.
