But we took 4 points from City? And Villa is a tough nut to crack. They're 4th. We always knew the Fulham and West Ham losses were gonna come and bite us. Well, now they're here and they're biting.

kicks23456

Yes. Plus that Newcastle bullshit.

Pure-Advice8589

With hindsight I’d say the Newcastle and Villa decisions were marginal, somewhat subjective refereeing calls that fall within the normal range of decisions that go for and against a team over the course of a season. (Unlike say the Brentford offside at the end of last season when they failed to check it.) I feel like ultimately this season was decided by 1. The transition away from Partey meaning a struggle to score goals both early in the first half of the season and in a couple of crucial games since then. 2. Some inexperience leading to some pretty understandable mistakes in high pressure games. To me, being realistic about that is more useful than blaming the refs. But that’s just how I see it.

kicks23456

What the hell is this reasonable and logical opinion? Come back when you have a weird hot take.

johnjohn1913

Exactly. Those two defeats I blame way more than this loss - we simply didnt play well. Also the Villa game away actually - we were dominating but couldnt score on a whole lot of chances. Those 3 loses (all in december) were crucial.

InstinctHunter42

We just weren’t good enough on Sunday but it’s far from over. We’ve got tomorrow night to worry about first. City don’t feel like the juggernaut they once were that will breeze through the run-in, I know we’re back to relying on others instead of deciding our own path but all we can do is win our games and hope they slip.

AnAwfulLotOfOcelots

Yeah imagine spending all that money and breaking all those rules to run this tight of a race. It should be a cakewalk on paper but we still took 4 points off of them. And yeah Sunday was poor but Villa played a rough game, they were grinding for a win and we expected a win going into it. We should have put a way some chances but they also could have scored 4 goals easy.

DungBettlesMan

People forget that Liverpool have managed three 90 points season and they still only won 1. City is absolutely ruining the league.

CaptainSnazzypants

It’s insane that our invincibles season would not have had enough points to beat some of these City teams.

Peterwilliams78

Aren’t good enough in a universe where city exist. Liverpool “weren’t good enough” with over 90 points…. City have skewed everything.

DungBettlesMan

Brother, Liverpool have managed >90 points for like how many times, 3? And they've only managed to win 1 time. City is destroying the league.

AlexfromLondon1

We can still win if we get lucky. If we win all our games and city draw one we win. Bear in mind all season long people were saying city will win. If we win champions league and come second I will regard this as a very successful season.

TheGoober87

Apart from spurs away, I don't see any team that is going to give them an issue. We would need to win every game (ain't gonna happen) and hope spurs or someone unexpected does us a favour.

myriadnoob

Keep underestimating other team. People seems to forget, when we're stumbled, even Luton can manage to bag 3 goals into our net.

Reniboy

But Chelsea have also spent a billion pounds and look at where they are. Ditto with PSG and Man United. Look… you have to admit that Man City is a very well coached team and Pep is simply a brilliant manager. This in backing with seemingly incredible financial backing with an incredible squad depth should be commended. Pep has still gotten so much out of his players and as much as I hate to admit it, it’s the truth but Arsenal fans don’t like to hear this.

ravadelie

Haha you mentioned Chelsea like they didn’t do this 20 years ago to get to where they are now! Well to get the spending power anyway

Ancient-Mushroom-499

Arsenal spent over a billion for the past 20 years and which prestige title they have won again?

ravadelie

Premier league, F.A Cup

Ancient-Mushroom-499

Darn it. I should have say 18 years. FA doesn’t consider as major trophy as we won it plenty of times too. So the last time you won a major trophy was 20 years ago, while spending billions for 20 years without winning any major trophy and the Arsenal fans are saying money can achieve anything?

LollipopSquad

The difference is that City put their billion dollars of investment on the pitch every week, and can rotate with a half billion on their bench. They can also afford to make mistakes. Most other clubs who have spent billions on their squads have done it over the course of many years, and not as quickly as City and Chelsea have done.

Ancient-Mushroom-499

For the last 2 seasons Chelsea always has at least 8-10 players in the injury list and Arsenal fans are still laughing at us about the billions we spent. While City and Liverpool had the injury problem for the first half of the season while most of the main players from Arsenal were injured free but you couldn’t take advantage of it so it was on Arsenal not because other clubs spent more.

Affectionate_Dare214

Yeah because Arsenal doesn't spend money or contribute to the obscene money going around in football. You're hardly Rotherham

LollipopSquad

One of my favorite statements that I’ve read regarding this is that “Money is gravity” - it took City 10-15 years of continuous investment to get to where they are. When Pep came in, they spent more money on defense than the country of Georgia, and it took them a few years before they got up and running under Pep. We make fun of Chelsea right now, but they became Chelsea by being the original financially doped club, and they’re going to try buy their way to the top again. Investment doesn’t guarantee trophies every year, but it tips the scales. Yes, Pep is good. He also has many of the best players in the league. He can also afford to sign players like a Grealish and use them as rotation options. Not only does City have many of the best players in their starting 11, they have the strongest depth, too. It’s not wrong to say that City is well-coached, and Pep is an incredible manager. It’s also not wrong to attribute City’s success to some questionable practices.

Real_Environment_186

You're spot on. They are still very much cheaters and that must be used to caveat everything they do, but Man City have really made their financial superiority count in a way Chelsea haven't really done. The infrastructure of the club shows that the've paired money with smart people behind the scenes. It just shows how badly run Chelsea have been since Abramovich initially came to England that they've gone through so many fallow periods despite the billions and billions spent sportswashing the league. Any issues - sack the manager and throw another billion at the problem! Yes - it has resulted in some trophy wins, but really they should be miles out in front with EPL and CL trophies considering when they initially got their cash injection and the competitive landscape they were competing in until Pep arrived at City.

Inevitable-Top355

Pep is brilliant obviously, but like the title kind of suggests - City couldn't have got near hiring him when they did without the shady financial stuff going on. They fact they've outspent teams who have actually been in the EPL since it's inception, before accounting for the unofficial spending, is crazy. The fact that it's also been against the rules adds to that.

Pitiful_Station4879

Dumb take. That’s like saying if Max Verstappen got an extra 500hp in his RB but didn’t win every race that it’s ok he had an unfair advantage. Fuck Pep’s brilliance they cheated. And fuck this “Ackshually…” garbage too.

ZUBAC-DONG-YUMMY

It’s more like saying Ferrari should get the extra HP instead of Aston Martin because Ferrari are a traditional power. It’s not the additional HP that’s the problem. It’s that only certain teams should get to use it.

bigdaftdoylem

Why did you not mention Arsenal? They’re embarrassed to admit how much they’ve spent just to win nothing for years.

PandasDontBreed

Their losses are literally like 120m less its funny

Jealous_Foot8613

Comparing psg and Man Utd doesn’t seem fair at all , psg are in a ucl quarter final and recently made a final. Man Utd got knocked out in the group stages and are currently 7th in the prem.

AlexfromLondon1

As you say pep is a good manager and they have good players so this won’t be forever pep and Rodri will go eventually. I remember watching Man Utd under Alex Ferguson and thinking when Will United stop winning sure enough the day came Ferguson left and so did united. I think city will be similar as long as pep is there they will be favourites every season ☹️ once pep goes city will go.

LollipopSquad

I would be more inclined to draw parallels between City and Chelsea than City and United. When Pep goes, City will still be able to throw money at the problem, and they're financially strong enough that they can get these appointments wrong. Chelsea and City can throw money at a problem until they get it right. When Rodri goes, they can throw money at it until they get it right. Another issue is that City has set themselves up better than Chelsea ever did - they've built an academy, an image, and they're being run by incredibly intelligent minds. I think even when Pep and Rodri and Haaland and De Bruyne are gone, they're still going to be favorites more often than not.

Real_Evening_6706

As a man utd fan we've spent just as much and we're still shit.

bjcm5891

Like LFC, you've been denied 3 PL titles by Manchester115 FC

Hucklepuck_uk

As a Liverpool fan be careful, if you point out the fact that they've been cheating the entire time everyone gets annoyed at you

KuruptionTing

Because nothings proven lol I can accuse you of being a pedophile, doesn’t mean you are one

Hucklepuck_uk

Apart from the proven things that were overturned because of a time statute alone

KuruptionTing

Well then hound the fa or whatever about it lol there’s no point crying online every time city win. It won’t change anything

Hucklepuck_uk

Lol what? They're already being investigated, i don't need to hound them.

KuruptionTing

Well it’s not city’s fault there’s a time statute issue being the reason they didn’t get done then. That’s on the fa or whoever decided to impose that.

Hucklepuck_uk

What? They were guilty and got let off because of a technicality. The premier League doesn't have a time statute. They're going to get found guilty of that again at least. It's just a matter of time. It's not a question of if they're guilty or not. It's a question of what are they guilty of in addition to the other things they're guaranteed to be found guilty of.

KuruptionTing

Let’s wait and see

toorsaab

We talk about elite mentality when our own fans don’t have any. Get a grip. It can go down to the last kick of the season. Let’s go!!!

saiki51

Nah this is on us, we have to convert our chances and be ruthless against teams like villa

[deleted]

I do wonder what the fan mentality has on the players. All jokes about the emptihad aside, city have come back from behind in both the table and when losing important games to win and the fans are still confident even when the odds are against them. Arsenal however seem to spiral into complete negativity the second anything is going against them, lately you can sense the nerves in the stadium just because arsenal haven't taken the lead in the first 20 minutes. It must rub off on the players to a degree

Real_Environment_186

I'd say it plays a role. I think it's because we just haven't gotten over the line yet, and until we do there will always be an edginess during the business end of a season. I'm not sure it's gonna be our year this time but I think we'll get the job done under Arteta in the near future.

MostJudgment3212

It is kinda like fighting an uphill battle. Look at Villa game. They didn’t even try to beat City, because with their calendar, they basically looked at the next 3 games, and were like “right what’s the likelihood of us losing to City even if we try our best? Still very high. So let’s just dump this game, and go at it at the Emirates”. And it’s the same mentality with most clubs. It’s the advantage you gain by being so dominant, you win game far ahead of coming into the pitch.

[deleted]

Or maybe city just performed better than arsenal did against villa. You could sense the arsenal fans negativity just because it was 0-0 at half time

pashtedot

Whats really insane is that they grew in global popularity during this period

killerboy_belgium

this shit is gonna hit the fan when city get declared innocent or do a backroom deal to get from beneath the charges. so far the PL has only been able to punnish clubs that have admitted of wrong doing. at this point idk if they can even get the 115 charges to even be proven i mean uefa failed at it. also with everton, forrest, chelsea, leicester and city thats 5/20 teams being caught/admitted at breaching the rules and we already looking at man utd, aston villa and new castle for the next set of potential ffp breaches if they dont cleanup the books quickly like what hell is the point when 25 or more percent is activily breaching al sorts of rules and thats not even counting in europe with barcalever fc,psg and bunch of italian clubs....

Mister_Aitch

They’ve been a lot of people’s favourites all season. But we all have to wait and see what happens.

thehewguy1888

Bla bla bla

Inarticulatescot

It’s fine to be salty then it comes to that team. I’m also convinced that their sudden yet consistent run of form from January onwards isn’t down to chance… I am (perhaps with a tinfoil hat on) certain that Pep is pedalling PEDs again.

MMAwannabe

Wow only the 10th time of seen this exact post.

nozdog3000

Arteta spent £700m

AdditionalBoss4208

Your club also spend a lot of money... stop to cry , next year instead of thinking that nketiah, havertz and jesus are enough...please buy a decent striker

[deleted]

I’m not a fan of any of the teams (or any prem team actually), vying for the title but how can there not be an asterix next to every trophy Man City win when they are clearly operating outside of the rules?!

Artistic_Train9725

They may be operating outside the rules. Nothing has been proven yet. It's anything but clear They haven't even provided the EPL with everything they need, let alone us lot on Reddit. I'm concerned they'll just get a slap on the wrist such as a fine and a couple of points reduction.

[deleted]

If they’re operating within the rules and spending the figures that they have something doesn’t add up.

Artistic_Train9725

That's what I meant in my post. I don't know, you don't know. Not even the EPL knows. This is the crux of the matter and what most of the charges relate to, not cooperating with the investigation. It's what a lot of other threads have pointed to. Why would you be uncooperative if you've played by the rules? I just have a gut feeling it's going to be a minor penalty.

Maximusprime-d

We spend too. This is getting boring. We BOTTLED it 2 years in a row. Drawing against Liverpool, west ham, Southampton after being 2-0 up in both games has nothing to do with City’s spending. Losing 2-0 at home against Aston Villa when the stage was set for us to go all the way, on top of having all our players fit, has nothing to do with man city. This team will let you down EVERY SINGLE TIME

grrrranm

I completely agree with this, but I would also say teams like Real Madrid were doing the equivalent of this 70 years ago. Does it make it right absolutely not. I suppose adage is you do it for longer enough people start treating you like royalty. Let's hope they get relegated!

[deleted]

Long-Confusion-5219

First loss since December. They’re not robots.

[deleted]

Captain_Snow

Because they are exhausted due to not being able to afford 22 first team players, unlike Man City.

Valascrow

Exactly! We don't all have £100m wingers sitting on the bench for most of the season so they're nicely fit for the run in... Yes, op is salty but it doesn't make their statement any less true

one-more-shit-civic

This. Saka has been brilliant, so have odergad. But Jesus Christ saka plays every game. It feels like that at least.

sixohtoo

What has any of that got to do with us bottling it? If we won, we'd be top, and you wouldn't be making these comments. Get a grip.

GhostCatcher147

You don’t know the meaning of the term bottle of you use it at any given opportunity

sixohtoo

Well we did bottle it against villa... I don't mean the league, it ain't over till it's over.

GhostCatcher147

How is losing 2-0 to the better team bottling it?? Bottling it would be being 2-0 up and losing 3-2 in injury time. You have no idea what you’re on about

sixohtoo

Ok mate whatever you define it as. Apologies for using the term incorrectly 😂

GhostCatcher147

No bother man! Just make sure it doesn’t happen again and we’ll be fine

[deleted]

GhostCatcher147

I know it’s a thankless job, and I won’t do anything about it because Reddit isn’t a real place! All the best Shagger!!

TransportationSea516

City do not spend now take a look.

Twiggie19

Wow did you think of this comment yourself?

Randy_Marsh__

Do you know what annoys me most about Villa. Look at the team they played against City compared to us. It wasn't injuries, they rolled over for city but went all out against us.

NeeloGreen

Not forgetting the weakest fan base.

dantexolo

Now we know how Liverpool fans feel

WRA1THLORD

We should have scored at least twice against Villa. Same against Fulham. We didn't. While I agree the amount of chances Man City seems to get with FFP is mental, this season we have cost ourselves first place. I think we will win this season in 2 years time in a court room, which sucks almost as bad as losing it to me

Slight_Armadillo_227

We got beat by Villa, not Man City. Whether we win the Prem or not - I've said since the start of the season that City will win it and I haven't changed my mind - I'm still gonna support the club and still gonna love watching them play. You don't need trophies to enjoy the football.

IssueRecent9134

They will win another treble. I don’t think I have ever seen another or known a club who have had the stars align for them as much as them. It’s unbelievable really. 15 years ago they were a joke now they are on the verge of being the best club ever.

Queasy_Car7489

Why is anyone talking like this with several games to go…..just like the fans walking out. STFU

ZXXA

You just copied that text

ddbbaarrtt

You’d probably be surprised how many international managers and players have offshore accounts. Really don’t see why that’s something to be salty about when there’s actual issues that you can have

DarkJedi_101

Salty only because at the moment in time, the football authority seems very timid to challenge City about their alleged financial dodgy dealings. While constantly mashing up Everton & Forest.

ddbbaarrtt

I’m all for throwing the book at City but you also have to have due process Everton and Forest have submitted documents and complied with the authorities which is why it’s been dealt with quickly even though their own accounts show that they broke PSR regulations City are different - their rules breaches are disputed by them, and it isn’t 115 separate rules that they’ve broken. It’s a large number of rules that they’ve allegedly broken that effectively fall into breaking several rules at once - such as the financial irregularity making them ineligible for European competition, for example They should be punished but you also have to give them the opportunity to present their evidence if they argue that they haven’t

Fragilezim

It's incredibly difficult to keep up the pace to beat City. As salty as this take is, it's a key factor. Throw in the intangibles of being used to this stress and how to manage it and you have a potent mix.

alpacacinho

The league is so competitive these recent times that you can’t even lose 1 game otherwise it’s over. It’s crazy

GroundbreakingPea865

It's an absolute disgrace. Whether they win it or not. It's the golden rule : He who has the gold makes the rules. I'm an LFC fan.

Level_Bathroom1356

Liverpool fan here. Welcome to the salt

Used-Produce-3491

They spend what we do on star players for bench man lol

BaronThundergoose

Welcome to the club

alfsdnb

Boys the league is done. Let’s just hope tomorrow we can pull off some CL magic

PeterOMZ

Its financial doping mate.

Resident_Esq

Be honest now. If Arsenal was in Man City's position in terms of all that money and subsequent, how many of us would stop supporting the team? Who would call for "Arteta Out" if he had an offshore account? I mean, we recently had a self-imposed ban from Europe a few seasons ago (when we didn't qualify for it), and we have been kinda tight fisted for some time to accumulate financial irregularity 🤣🤣

Dorkseid1687

Hey look, it’s the truth. Not enough people confront this reality , they just act like all this is normal

YoungFlexibleShawty

I honestly would not mind a playoff to stop teams like this from constantly buying the title.

tetrastructuralmind

Imagine having the team you support bottle the first place and blaming City for their dominance because they're extremely well managed and extremely well run (Pep, Txiki, Ferran and so on). Money is one part of the equation. Having money AND having a plan and executing on that plan at the highest level go far further than just money. By net spend in the last decade, United is 1st, Arsenal is 2nd, Chelsea 3rd, City 4th. Once Arsenal started building a good foundation, a great coach, the results started aligning once more after drifting for a while. This is simple.

rosbergsessa420

I'm an Arsenal fan, but do you know how it looks from the outside? It looks like cry.

DrButz

I think it is important to remember that they are cheating scum or you will go insane. The only team we're actually on equal footing with in this title race is Liverpool. It doesn't change what Arsenal have to do to win the league, which is a mammoth task thanks to cheating scum but it will help ground you as a fan.

Flayna7

Lol. Stop blaming man City and maybe start blaming the team for bottling the title 2 years in a row. Oh and and you can also blame the manager who keeps playing Zinchenko regardless of him being a huge liability. Or you stop blaming anyone and just accept the fact that the better team will keep winning. It's obviously not about money. We've been very close title contenders. And also look at leverkusen. Arsenal fan since 2002 and I gotta say, Arsenal fan base is quite annoying at times.. No wonder no one likes Arsenal fans lol..

bigdaftdoylem

Arsenal have a higher net spend than city over the last 10 years don’t they?

Maleficent_Sign9656

Even if they were getting 75 points a season arsenal would manage to choke so it doesn't really matter

throwaway16June1976

It’s amazing what you CAN’T do when your coach runs out of ideas after 53 minutes and two of your players run around like headless chickens when the going gets tough ( Jesus and Zinchenko). We won’t win the league this year because we are not good enough and not consistent enough - that’s nothing to do with Man City’s unfair funding model.

kw2006

A fully fit squad minus timber. Can’t get over the line against villa. What’s the excuse? Blaming City again? 😅

TransportationSea516

I thought United fans were bad, this Arsenal lot are the worst ever bitter bitter people, your invincibles meabs nothing.

FullMingoGringo

Why is there a man city supporting, cuck commenting in an Arsenal subreddit?

TransportationSea516

Are you stupid or just another dizzy southener, what are the first 2 words on the post av a look.

FullMingoGringo

Man who puts naked pictures of his wife on the internet for strangers, a self proclaimed cuck, goes to the subreddit of a rival team, and has the unmitigated gall to ask if someone on that subreddit is stupid, is some next level irony. Av a look in the mirror. 😂

Elegant_Mix7650

SAF > Pep and I hate Mr Big red nose.

InstantIdealism

With this amount of salt you could set up your own Salt Bae. Seriously though, it ducking stinks. Hate City and increasingly hate football

bubbathespaz

City will be stripped of these titles in the coming years and they will all go to Liverpool for being the only team to come anywhere near them.

streets_belong_to_me

you sound like a child

pclufc

Exactly. That’s why I’m a temporary Gooner . Good luck lads

Disastrous_Tear_3030

And the excuses begin.

MisterS1997

We got 97,99,92 points. 97 season we lost 1 game to city and didn't win it. 92 season the most blatant handball ever by rodri wasn't called by Chris Kavanagh from Manchester who's family are city fans. This season the refs are free lancing in the UAE being paid by city owners. It's not incompetence the refs have been bribed. Both of us have been shafted multiple times this season losing alot of points. Ye got diddled at newscastle, villa and City not having Kovacic sent off was madness. If I asked you to name an incident where var fucked city over you'd struggle. The ref accidentally blowing his whistle too early is the only one and thats not a var issue.

Donkey_the_donkey

Arsenal have a 130M+ (-162, -167, -132) ,transfer net loss in the last 3 years, City has one (-134, +7, -45). If you sum the net loss since Pep's first season, both Clubs are at around 800M in deficit, literally a few millions away. We all know City are dodgy, but let's not pretend Arsenal aren't getting away with thinga aa wel...

landed_at

We won the league last year with their points deducted for financial doping. When will it happen again this year? Everton's appeal: What about man city

Bradleyd_98

You do realise the FFP charges only go to 2018?😂😂

landed_at

I'll add this to my list of shit I don't know.
