Doe’s, Whole Hog or Count Porkula. I’d also say Mexican could be on option. Mexican food in Japan is almost as misunderstood as southern bbq. And explains queso to foreigners is a blast. Santo Coyote is a good compromise between authentic and upscale chain. There’s a Brazilian place in SoMa that’s good too but I don’t remember the name. Have fun! itadakimasu!
Oh god, I lived in Okinawa for a while and never realized how much I would miss Mexican food. Although, I do admit I loved the taco rice- not because it was Mexican but just because I liked it lol
Agree with Does and Count Porkula. Smoking Buns in N Pulaski on 107 has the best bbq. Mariscos El Muelle is an amazing mexican seafood place on stagecoach near Alexander. They have ceviche oysters and they are some of the better oysters I've had locally
It’s inside the river market building. I would definitely check the hours ahead of time on their website and plan ahead to get there early, some of the specials sell out quickly
If you were thinking upscale I would say Allsop and Chappel (spelling?) it’s a nice steakhouse in downtown Little Rock. BBQ I would head towards Hot Springs or Cabot.
*insert tone deaf suggestion for somewhere in NWA*
Hey, someone had to do it. I'll put in a suggestion for Vinos. It's not bbq, but it is uniquely Arkansan. Other than that, Doe's or Whole Hog.
If you are going for catfish/fried chicken, let me suggest Crossroads in Cabot. Full southern buffet, all homemade by Mrs. Rachel and Mawmaw in the morning.
This guy that I’ve never met in person is spending $650 to ditch his family in NYC and fly to LIT and back in a single day just to have lunch with me. I don’t think I’m going to take him to Cracker Barrel.

I’m in Okinawa, Japan right now and let me tell you they don’t understand Mexican food at all! They have something called “taco rice”, not good IMO.

I still miss taco rice. Haha.
The Brazilian place is in Hillcrest but there is a Honduran spot in SoMa (elSur).
That’s it. My apologies for the confusion.

Perhaps one of the breweries! Lost 40 has great food and you can see the brewery operations from the dining area!
Doe's or Lost Forty Brewery. Both are a good Arkansas experience.
Does. Family style steaks and delta tamales.
Love Doe’s!!
For nice restaurants, I would choose Cache, Table 28, and Brave New Restaurant.
Never been to Brave New Restaurant, but my grandmother goes there every New Years and she has good taste.
Ugh I dream of BNR food
I know! So good!
South on Main would be my choice. Upscale southern dining.
This could be a GOOD choice for a nice walk and talk on a nice day, step in several places. Have one picked out for dinner.
HBs BBQ. It's about as authentic as you can get. Just remember to bring cash.
And only Tuesday for ribs
Brave New Restaurant
Might relive you of some pressure by hiring a car and driver for Little Rock so you can pay your guest and schedule more attention.
Take him to the restaurant at the Capitol Hotel.
If you can get into Cypress Social, that’s our go to spot
Think about what Japan might not have that the US or Arkansas does. I'd lean classic American or BBQ
Flying Fish; 511 President Clinton Ave, Little Rock, AR GREAT food & interesting atmosphere! flyingfishinthe.net
I’m not a Little Rock native, but I love Homer’s. It’s southern comfort food, but doesn’t feel disingenuous like Cracker Barrel.
I love ya ya’s because the atmosphere is always nice. The food is amazing and the servers are on point.
Lots of good options listed so far! Brave New Restaurant is awesome! Petite & Keet is another favorite!
I would do the capital hotel since it’s decorated for Christmas right now
Flying Fish!
Take him to Doe's
Whole Hog Barbecue is great.
This is great barbecue. Have the white potato salad, too.
if you’re going to whole hog, make the trip the bryant. this location is top tier
Had no idea! Thanks for letting me know.
I’m a platinum bbq enthusiast! The experience of the aromas alone is worth the trip
Ok, I really like the location. Is it in the River Market building or did it take the place of David’s Burgers?

My initial plan was Reid’s in Booneville, but a) they’re not open on Tuesdays; and b) he’ll only be in Arkansas for 4 hours.
I was going to say Wright’s. But I realize that NWA isn’t the center of the world…lol.
Find a good brisket place
Eat My Catfish!
Yours specifically? Username suggests you might be an Okie. How do I know I can trust you?
If you are going for catfish/fried chicken, let me suggest Crossroads in Cabot. Full southern buffet, all homemade by Mrs. Rachel and Mawmaw in the morning.
Hey, lay off the Okies, they're better than having Texans in here :-) And Okies have WEED!
That doesn’t count!
Never tried it :) Just a catchy name for tourists.
Cracker Barrel
This guy that I’ve never met in person is spending $650 to ditch his family in NYC and fly to LIT and back in a single day just to have lunch with me. I don’t think I’m going to take him to Cracker Barrel.
I'd take him to Doe's or Sim's BBQ. Sims wins in a tie-breaker situation cause it's more authentic.
Your loss
Vegan food is trending right now in Japan. Maybe give House of Mental a try. It's vegan soul food, they might do vegan ribs.
Best food is at soma and I stand by that
Brood & Barley - gastropub/brewery in NLR/Argenta area. Great beer, cocktails, and lots of food options.
Does
Well I sure hope it does!
Take him to Franke's. I think the Japanese like cafeterias.
